Dropped & Found: Faith Healer, Powder Blue, Shy Boys, Claire & The Cops, Wand-
We like to use our Songdrop lists to remind us of purchases to make at eMusic near the end of each month. During this past Thursday night's Purchasefest we couldn't find the songs below at eMusic but, lo!, found them for free download elsewhere and wanted to give you the opportunity to check them out.
Big fun but also just plain BIG (64.2 MB, in case you need to know). Use iTunes or something to convert it to an mp3, if you like.

Mikal Cronin Keeps Our Mind Made Up
We made our mind up the first time we heard San Francisco rocker Mikal Cronin, and it was, like, yessssssssss. We just noticed the new tune from his forthcoming LP MCIII at Austin Town Hall and then found it downloadable at Side One Track One, so thanks, Austinites. MCIII is due to drop May 5 on Merge.

Music of the Sphere: DTCV, Stag, FF, Toro Y Moi, The Go! Team, Hundred Visions
We search daily but lately haven't found scads of hosted, nonwidgeted downloadables that plunk our particular twanger. What we have found, though, plunk it quite pleasingly, and we therefore thank the hosting entities from the bottom of our . . . ears.

Stag - She + Me - KEXP Blog
FF - Caught in a Dream - KEXP Blog (pic)
Toro Y Moi - Empty Nesters - Side One Track One

New Year Fireworks
Having heard and loved nine of the thirteen songs on London band The Fireworks' forthcoming LP, we strongly suggest you mark 10th February as the day Switch Me On pops. We previously plunked its "On and On" into our Songdrop widget and are posting another sample from the LP below. First, though, we thought you might like to hear and possibly download a name-your-pricer we found in a freakScene compilation at Bandcamp.

Recent Finds: Protists, Frankie Teardrop, Car Seat Headrest, Barbarian, Ex-Gentlemen, Jaguwar
The postitle pretty much sets this one up, omitting the obvious: we very much like or love the first tune featured in each widget (and sometimes others as well, so isn't that nice).
Jesuslesfilles Bring le Poppunk
We freely admit this might not be the precise cuppa for some poppers, but it might be for others, so here we go. We found these poppunkin' Montrealers while browsing the Collection of another Montrealer who'd liked something else we'd liked (The Vandelles, in case you were wondering). So merci, David. We particularly like #1, 3, 5, 8, 10, & 11.

Happy Humpin' with Beat Angels
Phoenix New Times Blogs is starting a weekly feature called "It's Heritage Hump Day." Each Wednesday they'll be featuring a pre-2000 Phoenix band, posting a free downloadable song for ONE WEEK ONLY. We really like their first pick by early Nineties glampoppers Beat Angels. Tip o' the topper to the excellent Faster and Louder for the headsup.

Covers: Secret Colours (Beatles), Sick Sad World (Weezer), New Speedway (Manfred Mann/Dylan), Golden Bloom (Wussy), The Chemistry Set (The Rolling Stones), First Base (Devo)
