Happy Birthday Jackie...

Hello there

I hope you have all had a wonderful Easter weekend. The weather here at Chez Hettie has been wonderful and I have enjoyed a great weekend, involving meeting with friends and spending quality time with Mr Hettie.

As the weather was so nice Mr Hettie wanted to open up the hives. Mine first and they were pretty happy to let us have a good look. However when it came to us looking at Mr Hettie's bees, they decided that enough was enough and stung me through my jeans. I am sorry to say that I am still suffering with my right thigh burning, swollen and with a very large blister forming.  I had about 8 stings in that one.  Little critters!

Right then, onto today's post. I recently dipped my toe into the world of Brushes. My excuse is that I am going on a workshop soon where we can use them and wanted to make a card for my friend Jackie ...

I Spritzer some paper and used two blue shades of brushos and I sprayed water in my mini mister with some white perfect pearls. I hope you can see the shimmer. I then ran the paper, once dried, through my die cutter with Sizzix hexagon die, as Jackie is a quilting friend.
I used Snippets to make the tag and flowers using TH dies and flourish using Tonic die. I stamped a SU image on the tag with DI and used a McGill punch to make the little flowers.

Some pearls, Hero Arts HB sentiment and I was finished. Jackie was pleased with it and surprised to learn I had made it.

Thanks for calling by. Off to join the Snippets Playground. Hopefully there will be some chocolate left. I am also joining Cuttlebug Mania as they are looking for tags.  Have a great week.

Hugs

T on Tuesday......T is for QuilT! Scrapbooking of sorts!

Hello there

Tuesday again?  What!!!!  I am sure weeks are going quicker now than ever!

As it is Tuesday I am going to share my cup of tea with you Elizabeth and Bleubeard, as well as my latest project.
As some of you may know from my mentioning it on previous posts, I am desperately trying to finish a quilt by Saturday - THIS Saturday.  Well last night I managed to tack the quilt to some backing fabric I found - no doubt bought for some project I have long forgotten about many many MANY moons ago, as well as finding just enough cotton wadding to use without joining bits together.  Fate or what? So I ironed the fabric and the quilt top to within an inch of its life and tacked all three layers together.

Now I remember from a workshop/get together many years ago that you should let the fabrics "rest" overnight before starting to quilt them.  So this I did.  I will start quilting in earnest tonight.   Whilst looking for fabric to back this quilt I also found another quilt top which I made in around 2000, I found the actual fabric I bought for the backing and I ironed those pieces and put them together, so hopefully I will have another quilt for our Quilt Exhibition in June!!  As well as that, this means that I have managed to empty more stash from my overflowing boxes!  Wahoo!
Now the photos I am sharing with you today are all little Snippets of the quilt.  I thought I would tease you all a little and I could also prove that I am working on something.

The whole quilt, which is a wall hanging measures 32" x 42".  Some of the fabrics I bought in Praha when Mr and I last went and I managed to find similarly coloured ones to make up the collection I am using here at the Quilter's Guild AGM last year.  I have also used some Snippets of fabrics too so I shall taunt the Snippets Playground too!  We won't even mention the snippets of fabric, bondaweb, stitch and tear, and threads that are currently littering my craft room floor!

Have any of you recognised some of the tools I have used to make this yet?  The clock below must be the most recognisable one!!   Yep!  I have used a mixture of Tim Holtz, Sizzix and Spellbinders dies, as well as some electronic dies on my Silhouette!  Don't you love it when different hobbies collide?

Below is this week's cuppa.  It is my first cup of the day so is Glengettie and in one of my favourite Sophie Allerton Chicken mugs.   I didn't dare have my cuppa too close to my quilt!!!
In case you are wondering where the scrapbooking element of today's post is, the quilt is a reminder of last year's AGM where some of us went to a large House near to Nottingham.  The blocks are each elements of things that were at the House.  All will be revealed when it is finished!  It WILL be finished on Friday night.  Why Friday?  We have a Group Area Day on Saturday where some of us who went to the House will be meeting up and doing a Show 'n Tell of our challenge quilts!

Thanks for popping over.  Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think of my quilt so far.  I shall pop back to see you, though it may be a little late!

Wedding Card for my Nephew

Hello There Friends

I hope you have had a lovely weekend.  I have had a fabulous one sharing time (and lots of chatting) with the WOYWW friends that attended The Crop II yesterday.  Thanks Julia and LLJ for hosting such a wonderful day.  I will share some piccies on Wednesday.

Tonight I thought I would share the Wedding Card I made recently for my Nephew and his Bride Michelle.  The Butterfly Tree is by Poppy Stencil which I bought at Ally Pally with a little gentle persuasion from Playmates, and the glitter is by Hampton Art.  I used a Martha Stewart corner punch and mounted it onto an easel card which I made using Cordinations cardstock.  Tim Holtz flourish stamp.  The small butterflies were punched from a MS punch and embossed with glimmer embossing powder and finished with pearls before mounting them on the card.  There is also a Snippet of ribbon too.

The larger butterflies were made using the same glitter and a butterfly brass stencil which I have had for a loooong time (and never used!).  A Tag cut using a Stampin Up punch and stamp and layered.
Another butterfly inside and stamping inside with white embossing powder.
And another butterfly on the reverse side.

Hope you like my card.  All the white cardstock used (except the tree and butterflies)  is from my (groaning) Snippets box so I can share this with my Playground buddies.    Off to see if Miss Di managed to smuggle us some Ducks and Terrapins back to the Playground!!

One question for you....is there another Bank Holiday this week?  I could sure do with another short week!!

Scrapbook Tuesday - Anyone need a Hug?

Hello Friends

Brrr!  Mr Jack has sure been around this morning!  Wrap up warm is definitely the order of the day today!

Well, today is Tuesday so as is customary on my little blog I would like to share with you a layout which I have created recently (last night in fact!).

This is another photograph which has been hanging around on my computer desk waiting to be scrapbooked so here it is.....hope you like it.....

This is Hironomous.  A Blenheim Cavalier  King Charles Spaniel who was quite literally "dumped" on us.  We were asked to "foster" him for a short period and the owner never came back to collect him.  It is a very long and suspicious story which I won't bore you with here, only to tell you that he was one beautiful and loveable dog with a big heart, and was a wonderful addition to our family.  He was very cuddly too and here he is cuddling with a sweatshirt of mine.
I had been pondering how I was going to scrapbook this photo when in the middle of the night I thought to use the Boofle papers again and create a quilting theme using my Sizzix quilting die.  However, when I laid them out on the background, I needed something more than just a plain blue background.
So I got my hexagon mask out, and sponged some white acrylic paint through the mask to create a quilted look. The photo has had a little white Sharpies added to the outer edge.  The stickers are from a pack of Boofle goodies which I was given for Christmas. The title was cut using my Cricut and some card which started life as invitations to a Hunt Club Dinner.  Well it was a shame to bin them as it is such nice card.
I faux stitched around the edges of all the hexagons and using my Boofle stamps I stamped a few without embossing them. All the wooden buttons were threaded with bakers twine from Papermania and I used some variegated thread to stitch around the outer edge of the layout.
A few hearts, again faux stitched and layered on to a rosette which was in the Snippets tin.  A little Snippet of Stampin Up ribbon which my lovely friend sent to me.  I shall be running over to the Playground with this as there are lots of Snippets used!  Is the brazier running yet?
And for those of you who wanted to see some shots of Amsterdam, here is one which I took from the boat when we went on the (expensive) canal trip!  Yes it was snowing but looked very pretty!

Have a great Tuesday.

Birthday Girl

Hello Friends

You will recall that I showed you a birthday card I made for my Scottish Dancing Teacher and I also showed you a photograph of her, well I could not resist making a scrapbook layout of that photo and three others now could I?  So as it is Tuesday, I thought I would share it with you....

The main papers are Daisy D which I bought a while ago and the blue are Co-ordinations and the red and white are Bazzill some of which are left over from my Christmas Album.  I have used an EK Success Punch, and Sizzix Daisy die as well as my Cricut for the letters.
Both pages side by side.  Yep, that is me on the far right photo and Angela is with Jo on the left of me.  Angela is Jo's granddaughter.

Some close ups.
The right side. On the letters I have used Stickles but it is difficult to tell from here!
Here you can see I have embossed all the daisies.  The stamps used are Tim Holtz, Hero Arts and Wendy Vecchi.  The rhinestones up the left side were scrounged given to me by Lesley, however, after she left I realised I wanted some for the right hand side.  No worries, I just got some clear ones and inked with a mixture of blues of alcohol inks!  Ever resourceful.  They should have let me be a Girl Guide.  As far as I know I am still on the "list"!!  There was a waiting list in our neck of the woods.  The buttons were a present on my place at the retreat last year!

Thanks for calling by.  I will take this to the Playground if you wish to have a closer look!

Christmas Presents...

Hello Peeps

Recently on my Desk on WOYWW I had some books as WIP.  I thought I would share them with you.  The blue one is my friend Stephanie's, a Quilting friend's,Christmas present.......

Papers are DCWV which I have had for ages and ages and ages.......  The base of the book and the TH mannequin are both cut from chipboard and painted with acrylic paint.  The mannequin is then stamped with TH flourish stamp.  The edges of the background cardstock is stamped with DI and flourish stamp (forgotten which make and my Craft Room is too cold for me to look in now).

The inside pages are made with pockets so that Stephanie can pop in notes, patterns, instructions etc....
The "lace" is TH die using the Snippets cut from the front cover sheet.

Here is the purple book which I will use as another Christmas present....
I cannot remember which paper this was and the darker pink in the flower is the reverse side.  The stamps used are the same and paint is lilac.  I have also used Snippets of lace on the mannequins.

Similar interiors, though I need to add the card inserts in...
The TH Rosettes were left over from my Christmas Tree project, though they are flat.  The "Roses" were cut using Snippets and TH Pinecone die.

I am entering this into the Playground as I have used some Snippets.

Thanks for calling by.  Have a great weekend.

Hugs

Funkie Junkie Tag 3 - Hey Mr Frosty

On the Third Day of Christmas I will bring to you........

.........Tag No. 3 of the Funkie Junkie Challenge......

Sorry I could not resist that!  I am indeed bringing you the Third Tag of the Funkie Junkie Challenge which is being hosted by Linda and sponsored by thefunkiejunkie.com

As usual I will show you Linda's tag first......

Now I have had to think a little laterally on this tag (big word I know) as I do not have the Pewter Distress Stain so I put my finkin' cap on and had a eureka moment!  I placed Picket Fence DS and Chipped Sapphire on my craft mat.  Then I sprinkled some Pewter Perfect Pearls into the mixture and then swooshed my tag made with the TH tag die and SU Vanilla cardstock.  Here is the effect I got which I love and can see me using again!  Whilst the ink was on the craft mat I also swooshed Mr Frosty and the snowflakes through too.
So a little jiggery pokery with the background and Mr Frosty next by stamping TH snowflakes using Ranger Medium and added more Pewter PP.  At the top right of the tag I placed a new mask and swooshed some silver Treasure Gold wax and then buffed it (love this stuff!).
Mr Frosty and the snowflakes were die cuts that a friend of mine had given to me - Thank You! I cut a flourish out of a Snippet of kraft cardstock and I painted one of the wooden hearts with Liquid Pearls and when dry I adhered a Chit Chat word.  Mr Frosty had a smoosh of Rock Candy Distress Crackle paint.
I then added a little Tissue Tape, Making Memories Embellishment, snowflake charm and sparkles in the heart centres all topped of with some ribbon and fluffy fibres.
Another chit chat word and some more sparkles on the flourish and now I have finished.

If you wish to join in with this Challenge you have until 17th December so 14 days (yikes!).  There is a fabulous prize on offer and I know that this week's tag (the last one) is absolutely wonderful.  Click HERE to see it.

Thanks for popping by and please leave me a comment so I know you have been.

Happy Birthday and Congratulations...

Hello Friends

Last week I had to make two cards in a bit of a hurry, one a Birthday card and the other a Congratulations card.  So I pulled out my favourite Penny Black Stamp, the spare A cards I made the other week, some Snippets, punches and inks.

I stamped the PB and SU stamps with Cobalt Blue Archival ink, blasted them with the the heat gun and coloured the flowers in with the Stormy Sky Distress Marker.  I then trimmed the larger stamping to fit the card, punched the tag, stamped a text stamp and punched the butterfly.

The little word tabs are part of the set I am trying to use up.  Inside I have stamped Happy Birthday and Well Done respectively.

As I have used Snippets I am going to pop this into the Playground.  I want to do a wreckie to see where we are going to put the brazier for roasting chestnuts on!  After the Bonfire Party I need to check on the Elf 'n Safety of the idea.

Hugs

Hettie.

Happy Birthday Megan - Use it up

Hello Friends

First I would like to say Happy Birthday to my niece Megan today.  She is 24!!!  Yikes!  How did she get to be that old?  Here is the card I made for her......

Still in the mode of "Use it Up" that Sandra has gotten me into.  They say green and blue should not be seen but hey! Why not?

My lovely Friend sent me the image some time ago so I coloured it in, raided my Snippets boxes, used my lovely new SU label punch and added a pre printed sentiment on that I have had since the days of Noah building his Ark!  The embossed circles were all punched circles which I ran through the Big Shot with a Tim Holtz embossing folder.  And LOOK!  I am even using eyelets, again bought when Noah was making his ark!  I heard a rumour that Jewsons is selling out of wood lately as there is a rush on arks!

You can see my lickle chicken has come over for a peek.  Chikkins sure do like a nosey at whatever you are doing!!

Got my wellies on so off to play in the Playground now!

First Day at School....Scrapbook Layout

Hello Friends

A week or so ago I watched a video by Donna Arkle where she demonstrated the use of spray inks to transform plain white paper into beautiful multicoloured papers.  Donna used the backs of papers in her stash and Dylusions inks.  Not (yet) having Dylusions inks why not use my Colourwash sprays?  So armed with some music in my player, some paper stash which I have had for eons and never use, my Colourwash sprays, a spray bottle of water  and all the mini  mister sprays with all sorts of colours used for previous projects....oh! and a glass of wine, I set about spending a happy evening spraying.

Oh what fun it was and totally liberating.  I highly recommend it as some of the results are gorgeous and I am really pleased with.  This one screamed school photo at me.  Possibly because my school badge was blue and red, and my uniform was navy blue with red, yellow, white or pale blue shirts or jumpers.

I used my white embossing powder and a new Papermania ruler stamp to stamp the background. Then removing the stamp from the block I inked it again with Black Soot and "rolled" the stamp in order to get little bits of stamping on there (no idea what the technical term is but I am sure you get my drift).  These two photos hopefully show you what I mean.

I also splattered some yellow acrylic paint on the background before adding the papers and other elements.

I added some Papermania sheets from Boofle collection and the Portobello Road collections along with a yellow mat for the photo.

Using the Silhouette I printed and cut the Boy, Girl and School Flashcards, the First Day bingo card and the Listening Watching Learning tab.

Some rub-ons with red brads were the final touch and that meant quite a few bits have been used up!

I hope you like what I have shown you today and feel inspired to give your spray inks a new lease of life.

Thanks for popping by and please don't forget to sign in the Visitors Book

Happy Birthday Mackensie - ATS Bingo Card

Hello Bloggers

I will apologise now for any errors in this post but I am writing this whilst watching the Closing Ceremony of the Olympics so am basically touch typing while I watch what is happening!  Loving it.  I also want to say Well Done to the guys and gals who have brought a GREAT Olympics from the people who built it, the volunteers working there, volunteers, children and stars who worked on the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, organisors and of course.....the Athletes.  BRILLIANT!  You all deserve gold medals!

Right.  Down to business.  Today's card.  It is a birthday card for my Best Friend's daughter Mackensie who will be 10 on Wednesday.  Where has the time gone since I first held her in my arms?  I have used the ATS's Bingo Card Challenge to create this card.

I chose the line Flowers, Emboss and Ribbon.  So here is the first photo which shows the embossing, ribbon and the true colours of the card....

The second card shows the flowers on the bottom of the card......
And here is the complete card, which also shows the decorated envelope.  Unfortunately, the colours are not  quite as they should be.  The previous photographs are more accurate.  Not sure why as they were all taken at the same time.  I cannot rephotograph it as I popped down to give the Birthday Girl her card and pressie today ready for Wednesday.  Ho Hum.
I have also used Snippets to make this card so I shall be popping it into the Playground too!  Can you believe we are on week 33 already?  Gosh this year is flying by very fast!

Right then.  I am sorry to make this short but I want to see the rest of the party.  I also want one of those red outfits that the girls who accompanied the flag bearers are wearing.  I wonder if we will see them on eBay in my size??

Thanks for joining me and before I go I must say Hi to Ann, Natasha, Zoe and Barbara and a huge Thank You for following me and also I mustn't forget LLJ who joined me earlier this week.  Five new followers in one week!  Thank you to all my Followers for choosing to fly with me!

TTFN and I hope you all have a good week.  What are we going to do with no Olympics now?  Oh yes I know.  Crafting with CDs on and little distraction!

Hugs

Typically British - Blog Hop!

Hello Peeps

Thank you for popping by to see me on this British Blog Hop which has been organised by Nicola of Sunshine Reflections.  If you want more details please click HERE or click on the Union Jack on my sidebar.  The Schedule is:-

 August 1st

Sam (Hettie - me)

If you have got to Sam (Hettie - me) and you haven't been to see the other peeps, please feel free to go back to the beginning and see me again on the way around.

Well, I had to have a think about this project to share with you.  The theme is British and what can be more British than a good ole' cuppa tea.......

I was lucky enough to spend the afternoon of my birthday last month, with my lovely Cousin Tracey at The Ritz having a special Birthday Tea!
Some Bunting for Celebrations made with my Stampin Up punch.  "Everything stops for..." was cut on my Silhouette.  The papers are all MME and the whole layout is shimmering with Gold Glimmer Mist to reflect the opulence of The Ritz.
The famous shot of the side of The Ritz and inside the famous Palm Court.  Our table is the one to the left of the Waiter here.
Boy we were "full as eggs" once we had eaten our tea.  This is one Birthday I shall never forget.  The clock is from an Inkadinkado stamp.  The large blue "ribbon" was distressed, inked and run through the ribbler.
A great photograph of the two of us having just had our tea.
Here are the top two plates of our tea tray.  The bottom plate had our sandwiches on. No crusts of course!

Right then.  Thanks for visiting and I hope you like my take on the British theme. Now off to HERE next to visit Angela.  Don't forget to go and visit the other ladies tomorrow for Day 2.  They are:-

August 2nd

Thanks Nicola for organising this Blog Hop.  It certainly has been fun taking part and great to see other folks' work.   It is such a good year for all things British too!
