Pinterest not required....

So yesterday became "The Great Room Reno" of 2012 in our house. I was getting a bit sick of these sights...

 before
 during

I knew the layout that would probably work the best, and after a spontaneous trip to Typo during their post Christmas sale I got some inspiration (hence not needing Pinterest, which I wish I had time for, but am kinda glad I dont at the same time!)

It was cleaned to within an inch of its life- who knew those sheer curtains weren't grey?

This cute little frame (with no hooks on the back- grrr!) was pretty easy to make- I had to stick it up with Command adhesive strips so crossing my fingers they all hold!

here are the fixin's if you're interested....

and the wall decals were redcued to $5 each, so some little messages were added.

 great button clock by Brianna

and a clever place for all the tacky posters hehe

So overall I'm pretty happy with it. A few finishing touches such as recovering the pink notice board (her brief was 'no pink' in the room!) and teaching her to keep the desk tidy! I think seeing it from the door might be a good reminder? Fingers crossed....

Oh, and my knitted bunting has been rejected! I think she was humoring me there, it was really my taste :) But as I dont have anywhere else to put it, I thought a giveaway was needed- so if this floats your boat, leave a comment saying you're interested and i'll draw a winner? I'm no good as setting time frames (well, sticking to them anyway) so a week or two?

A bit of redecorating to bring in the New Year is good fun!

Blogtoberfest 30/ My Place and Yours

One more day to go, right? And we are not only over Blogtoberfest, but the Novembarians come to have birthdays. But more on that later.

I'm joining in with Vic again this week for her meme.

I took a shot of 'where I sleep'. How it usually looks, or, err, how it looks for pics (bedlinen
 all made by me)

Cos this is how it normally looks

And the best bit about where I sleep? I'm sometimes joined by this little girl, I get to roll over and kiss her yummy cheeks, and think about how blessed I am....

ANOTHER cushion

I'm sure you remember (but I'll tell you again) how I made the kid a quilt and cushion out of Sherbert Pips?

When Aneela Hoeys' new range Little Apples came out, I was asked by the girl to do another quilt- alas, I didn't have it in me (Or the cash-ola in me bank) so I did the next best thing....

Can you see it?

She loves it! I used this pattern over here

The red chenille was used to try and tie it in with the others, and she chose red honeycomb print for the back.

Straight line diagonal quilting, I used wool batting against the front so it's extra soft and squishy. And jammed 2 pillows in there for a plumper cushion.

I think I should stop there! Except, she may have some new fabric coming out.....it's all so damn cute!

What I got up to.

Well, as Twitteres and Facebooker's would now I had the WHOLE long weekend to myself, in fact, Little Miss is due to be picked up by me in an hour! Wow, for me, that's huge. I knew I'd be sadder about it than her though teehee. She went off camping with her Aunty and Uncle (my sis), real camping with tents and drop toilets, ugh! Not my cup of tea, but kids, they love it!

Anyway, back to me- what did I do with myself? well, I spent the last of my money this weekend to get my hair done- so I can at least smile when I look in the mirror haha

As I had no funds to go anywhere, and was recovering from a lurgy I couldn't take to
Ms Curly's house, I decided to tackle some big projects- firstly
this room. My horrible bedroom. It nearly always looks
like this, something had to be done....

99.9% of the clothes on the floor were clean, and just had made it to the next step (putting themselves away in the cupboard haha). You get pretty lazy living on your own!
So the ironing was killed....

and a rearranging, it's like a different room! I have to put nik naks back etc, but
for now I like it clean....

There was a bit of couching going on, with 2 knitting projects on the hop. Thess are
going to be little baby pants,

and I made a newborn gown to go with them.

I finally got to make this too- I saw a tutorial ages ago, and forgot to save it. Then in Target one day I saw one for sale. I thought for weeks where I had seen it, and I finally stumbled across this, which led me to here! Yay for finding it!

I only chose grey because I didn't have enough blue, but now I think the grey should stay! With the pink print form the stash. I cheated a bit though- I hand stitched the petals, too freaky to do my machine, though it would have been quicker! I interfaced the back, so the weight of the petals doesn't collapse the cushion (I don't know if that would happen, I'm just interfacing mad), I also had a mix of acrylic and wool felt in grey, and I can tell! So next one with wool only. I thought the back looked pretty cute....

Hope you had a relaxing weekend wherever you are!

Look away if messy rooms disturb you.....

I don't know what came over me today, I had had enough!

This is what I was looking at today! She needs a desk, as she is sitting on the floor colouring ( And now I've seen the blue texta on the carpet to prove it!) , and having looked and looked at desks, I couldn't find one small enough to still give her some play space.

So the bright spark that she is said "why can't I have a bigger room, like your sewing room?"
Gasp. Shock. Horror. Give up MY room?

Yeah, it needed a good clean up anyway!

So tonight she is snoozing in her new bedroom,

while my bedroom suffers the most! Oh well, another week to get back under control

PS and for those of you who have seen the fabric stash- no, I didn't attempt that today, need a bit more sustenance to tackle THAT one! (A 3 door built in wardrobe of fabric to be swapped with a 2 door wardrobe of clothes- hmmm, should be interesting!)

Phew!

It's finished! months of...prep work, yeah, I'll call it that. For a final sewing frenzy and finished in a week!
This is me, after making the $%&%^&% bed (day beds look good, but they are a pain to make, believe me!)

And the best pic I could at night- fresh sheets, new quilt, happy girl child! She really wanted it finished for last night, but I couldn't get the binding finished during the day (read- too much nagging for food etc)

I'm not happy, of course- the turquoise squares have run! I think I dyed them, a while ago now. Some of the orange has run a bit too. Oh, well, we'll see what it looks like after a few more washes! Oh, the backing is blue chenille, as in the last post.

Have to show off this funny bent needle- it had no help making it this shape, I promise!

And a little nostalgia- the first quilt I made my baby, before I knew it was a girl. All cross stitched by me, then sewn on the old Janome. Polar fleece backing. Lots of baby spew on this quilt, there was!

New stuff

This is the frame that started the whole cleanup! It fell off the wall and the glass broke, and the room was so messy I couldn't find all the pieces. There, my secret is out and I feel better for it.

So seeing as I got a minute for about $20, I decided to recycle...

into a new earring/necklace holder (haven't filled it up yet). It may need to hung, though, the cat would have knocking it over.

and it coordinates so well with the rest of my DIY decorations.

I also put these cork mats to good use (well, I think so anyway). Moving wardrobes out and more space in the study has meant blank walls with old paint

Voila! A cork notice board.

Anyone else recycling stuff? It's good fun.
