“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of, or commentary about, websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time. Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.” This is subject to change, however. In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while. For rants promote change, and change can be good—right? Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).
When you read or hear about budgeteering, I want you to think of privateering, which was state-sanctioned piracy during times of war in days long past. For both sides of the federal budget battles employ the tactic of stealing the other-side’s arguments to bolster their won position when it is convenient.
Granted, [electioneering] might come to mind more easily. For electioneering is directly associated with politics in its proper context, but there is nothing subtle about what has been going on the past several weeks.
No, there is nothing subtle about it at all. For a Democrat now occupies the White House. Therefore, it is the Republicans turn to scream about uncontrolled spending and gross over-taxation while completely ducking all questions about how we got to be in such bad financial straits after a Republican had the reigns in his hands for eight full years before.
Oh, and we have a new player in the game, which is really not a new player in any way, shape or form. For a “Tea Partier” is just another name for an ultra-conservative who is only interested in what is in it for them, with getting a good feeling from helping those in desperate need not applicable in the least.
Alas, these are my peps. For I grew up in such an atmosphere, and I now live in a community that sponsored their own blood bank to compete with the Red Cross in order to insure that there would be plenty of blood available for our own needs.
So, when they hear politicians screaming about us not having to pay so much in taxes, they don’t really care about any of the specifics. For they have already had their heads filled with stories of their hard-earned money being spent for abortions for junkies and scientific studies of the mating habits of fruit flies.
Please, be assured that I don’t see what value there could be to finding out what turns a fruit fly on, and I have a real problem with the way our social welfare programs are generally run. For you can’t really help someone without getting personally involved in their lives, and this is something that is greatly discouraged.
However, it is a scalpel that is needed to fix our federal budget woes—not a broad ax! For incompetence and corruption across the board should be dealt with instead of seeking to eliminate whole programs that could do a lot of good if run correctly.
Speaking of such, have you heard of how much [GE] (General Electric) has paid in taxes the last two years? Still think the Democrats are on the side of the average American?
