Fantastical Feature: Taste of Home: Recipes Across America

Any time that NetGalley has a Taste of Home cookbook available, I always request to get it. I adore Taste of Home cookbooks and have yet to have a bad recipe out of one of the cookbooks.

Recipes Across America is broken up into different sections of the United States. As always, there were amazing pictures and easy-to-follow directions for each recipe.

Here is what I made:

NORTHEAST
For some reason, I ended up making the most recipes from the northeast. I grew up in the midwest and south, so you'd think that I would have more recipes in that area. I guess living in New York for the last 6 years has rubbed off on me.

First up, you cannot make northeast food without making a philly! As usual, the philly was one of my favorites and you can never go wrong with Pat's Philly Cheesesteak Subs..

This Homemade Pizza was just a normal hamburger pizza. I wasn't a fan of the crust, but I'm pretty partial to my go-to recipe and haven't had one beat it yet.

I recently had eggplant for the first time at Olive Garden. I really liked it and was excited to see a recipe using it in this cookbook. The Breaded Eggplant Sandwiches were delicious! My kids aren't the biggest fan of eggplant yet, but I love it! The crunchy baked eggplant was just incredible.

These Colcannon Potatoes were potatoes with cabbage and bacon. They were easily my favorite recipe of the ones I tried and the best mashed potatoes that I have ever had. I wish I had more words to describe their amazingness, but I just can't put my taste buds' reaction into words.

The Amish Cookies used canola oil, powdered sugar, and cream of tarter, which is not typical of sugar cookies. They ended up being very melt-in-your-mouth. Sugar cookies aren't really my favorite, but I did like these ones.

SOUTH
This Blackened Chicken is actually in a few Taste of Home cookbooks and it's been on my radar for a while.  My husband isn't a big mayonnaise fan to put it mildly, so I kept putting off making the chicken. Since he is deployed, I have free reign to put mayo in as many things as I want, so nothing was stopping me from making this chicken...finally! This one was a little spicy, so I'm cutting down on cayenne next time I make it. But as expected, the mayo made the chicken so tender and moist.

MIDWEST
You can't make food from the midwest without making a Chicago Deep Dish Pizza. I would love to try it with my own pizza dough recipe (again nothing can really beat my go-to) and in a pie pan. But there is something to be said about a pizza with this much cheese...and that is YUM!

WEST
Because I was on an iced coffee binge when I first got this cookbook, I was really excited to try the West's Iced Coffee Latte recipe. The easiest way to describe this beverage is that it is coffee chocolate milk. It kept well and I really enjoyed it.

Overall, this cookbook gets a 5-utensil rating from me. I loved all the recipes I've tried and will be making them again. As always, Taste of Home did not disappoint. If you are looking for a cookbook with a variety of delicious, easy-to-make recipes, this cookbook is for you!
