That time of the year again

Semla
I have enjoyed my first two semla's of the year. Traditionally, you are not supposed to eat them before Shrove Tuesday, but no one cares about stuff like that these days. Especially not the bakeries.

Semladags

Fat Tuesday!
Yesterday was Fat Tuesday. Originally called Fettisdagen in Swedish. But these days more and more people call it Semmeldagen. The day when we all enjoy a semla. I ate this one on my first fika break of the day, and it was very good.

That time of the year again

That time of the year again 400 Calories
Well not really, but who wants to wait until Fettisdagen? My only rule is that I have to take a photo of every semla.

Fettisdagsbulle

Fettisdagsbulle
We ate six million Semla's in Sweden yesterday during Fettisdagen. Fat Tuesday. It is a seasonal bun,(not really), with many names. Fettisdagsbulle, semla, hetvägg. I only eat the traditional version but there are people out there,(no names), that create and enjoy new versions of the semla.

More than just a bun...

More than just a bun...
...the first semla of the year. Not bad at all for a Supermarket semla. Normally you wouldn't eat one before Fettisdagen, or Shrove Tuesday, but that tradition is long gone now, because who cares about that sort of thing these days.

Mini-semla

Addicted Minisemla
I have a confession to make. I am totally addicted to the mini semla they sell at my favorite cafe, Malmens konditori in Handen. This is already my fourth this year. A bargain at 16SEK.

First Semla of the Year

First Semla of the Year
The fictive detective Ture Sventon, loved his temlor. He had a speech impediment that made him call them temlor rather than semlor. I bought this one (and one for my mother), at my favorite cafe earlier this week. It was very tasty. Not too expensive at 22SEK per semla.

Temmeltisdag

Temmeltisdag
The plan was to take the bike out for a spin today. But just the effort used to pump the back tire of my new bike made me exhausted. Luckily for me I managed to get to and from the convenient store without collapsing, so as it is Temmetisdag in Sweden today I will be enjoying a Semla later this afternoon.

Time for a semla

It's that time of the year again
Back in the old days you weren't supposed to eat a semla before shrove Tuesday. I'm happy to report that those days are long gone. I bought my first semla of the year at my favorite cafe Malmens Konditori yesterday. In fact I bought two,the other one to my mother. And yes, they were tasty.

Fat Tuesday

How to eat a Semla
It's Fat Tuesday. In Sweden that means that you have to eat a Semla. It's pretty much mandatory. I stopped by my favorite cafe Malmens Konditori in Handen and ordered a couple of semla's. Henrik, who owns the cafe has won a few awards for his semla's, so it's good to know that they are of the highest quality. and very tasty!

I ate this

Time For A Semla
I ate my first semla of the year two days ago. That was two weeks earlier than last year. Traditionally you would eat the semla on Shrove Tuesday, but no one remembers that these days. I bought mine at my favorite cafe, Malmens Konditori in Handen. They cost 30SEK and are the best you can get anywhere in Stockholm. I know that because Henrik, who owns the cafe has won a few taste awards over the years.

Semla!

Semla!

The traditionalist in me told me not to buy this semla yesterday, as it is way too early for that sort of thing. Luckily I didn't listen to that voice. In fact I never do!
