Hotel at Arenastaden

Quality Hotel Strawberry Arena The bubbly hotel B&W Black Holes
The 25-storey hotel next to the National football stadium, known today as the Strawberry Arena, at Arenastaden in Solna. It has 650 hotel rooms. I am yet to count all the windows, but they are all circular, like a football, of course. Thanks to the architect Gert Wingårdh. I have a lot of photos to show you from this part of Solna.

The Red Boat

The Red Boat
I had some issues with the eBike. Found a mechanic via Facebook. A former pro cyclist. He picked up the bike on Thursday morning. Fixed all the problems and delivered it back to me by Friday morning. The forecast promised rain, so I did an early 70 km test ride. Biked the last 15 km in the rain. Before the rain, I managed to also get a nice promenade along the Riddarfjärden bay. There are 24 ships moored at Söder Mälarstrand on Södermalm in Stockholm. The lake is called Mälaren. Among the ships you will find a nightclub, Patricia, that I used to visit some thirty years ago. There is also a floating restaurant. And quite a few private homes. And this. The Red Boat, a hostel. It is in fact two boats next to each other at Kajplats 10.

What are standard window sizes?

Scandic Facade
That is the question of the day. Two photos of the facade of the Scandic Continental Hotel at Klarabergsgatan/Vasagatan in Stockholm. Shot on two different days from two different places. The hotel was designed by a Danish architect, from the firm 3XN. It replaced a previous hotel from the 1960s. The Continental has three roof terraces, one of which is open to the public.

A room with a view

Best Western Hotel at 108
Best Western Hotel at 108. Newish hotel at Sveavägen in Stockholm, just across the street from The Public Library. A bit of a controversy here a couple of years ago as the owner Richard Ghneim decided without permission to construct rooms underground. Also, a Taco Bar here if you like that sort of thing. The building dates back to 1907, the architect was Andreas Gustaf Sällström. Back then it was a public bath with two swimming pools here. It was known as Sveabadet. Oh, and the view thing. From the hotel you have a good view over the Observatorielunden. And photos from there to come, stay tuned.

Glashuset

Glass Facade Glashuset
Only looking at the top photo you would say, that this must be a modern building with that cool glass facade, right? Then, seeing the second photo, you would ask yourself, hey, what is going on here? This building is interesting, as they say. A 44-room hotel at Wollmar Yxkullsgatan, near Mariatorget on Södermalm. The building permit alone took thirteen years. It is an old building, but with a new facade. The bar at the hotel claim that the flooring is 1 900 000 000-year-old, give or take. The owner, Per Hellsten now have five hotels in Stockholm. All in old buildings, and all said to have unique rooms. Designed by the architects Fredric Benesch and Katarina Lundeberg. If you would like to see more, check out their web site.
