Got this from an online acquaintance recently , who Sourced it from soul seek , Unfortunately all i have is an Mp3 Version ... we would certainly welcome a loss less share of this.. if anyone who has it is willing to oblige.
This set sort of ties in with the numerous,quality South African selections on offer here recently...
Not much point talking about the performers themselves ,since most have already been introduced here and elsewhere.
As far as i Know The free jazz meetings in Baden Baden ,were inaugurated in the mid 60'S by Critic Joachim E. Berendt.. and are still an occasional feature of the live scene...
Herbert Joos may be unfamiliar , he's probably best Known as a mainstay of the Vienna Art Orchestra , though back in the 70's , he made a few interesting solo albums ,and even recorded in trio format for FMP.
Fans of GUO, Alan Silva's Celestial Orchestra, Francois Tusques inter communal music and other Sonic LOVE fests will Find plenty to enjoy! .. a gamut ranging from 'Afro Rock,' Qwela Tinged pieces through to freebop, psychedelicious 'Bitches Brew 'style rock vamps... great percussion jams,and best of all ferocious Free improv over long droning horn ostinati ... this has it all!
Among the highlights featuring Some of the most electryfying performances in this set, for me are the trio-to quintet pieces featuring Terje Rypdal in completely free mode..taking it beyond Hendrix and even early Sonny Sharrocks fiercest sonic abstractions.
Splendid stuff which clearly presages the material on Rypdal's Great album 'What comes after' ECM 1031, a few of which pieces are present in skeletal form.
There's also a magnificent sprawling version of Barre Phillips, just 8.. (disc-2) which some may remember from the unique, Japo LP 'For all it is'( Japo, 60 003) recorded in March of the same year.
Grab it, enjoy.. and consider buying some of the performers discs .... Early Rypdal for example is on the whole pretty special.

JThe appearance of a Weather Report recording here may raise some highbrows amongst the more serious-minded of you. I also think that the later WR stuff, after they became successful, left much to be desired, but this early recording, I think, is really special because of the artists guesting on it. If you've enjoyed the recent Surman postings, you'll like this. (and Skids is not bad either !) The distinctive WR sound is still there, but much freer than their later recordings. I would be interested to now how Surman, Thelin and Skidmore came to play this gig, and whether it was a one-off or repeated. Surman went on to play in a quartet led by Vitous some years later. I found this some time ago on a torrent (not dime). It's only ripped at a fairly modest 192kbps. Perhaps, as it comes from a radio show, it was broadcast at 192 digital and this is as good as it gets. If anyone has a genuine higher bit rate copy, please feel free to post it, but to my ears this sounds pretty good.

This combo released just one commercial recording in 1982 on a label called View VS, long since gone. Skidmore and Dudek of course need no introduction, but I don't know much of the rhythm section. Apparently, Haurand, the German bass player, recorded in a trio called SOH (not to be confused with SOS) along with Skidmore and Tony Oxley.
This is not groundbreaking stuff, but devotees of Skids will not be disappointed with this rare recording. I particularly like the 2nd track where both reedsmen play soprano, and is very evocative of the track title (Rhum, for non-UK folk, is a beautiful and remote island in Western Scotland).
This was a radio broadcast (excellent sound quality), transmitted in a lossy format, so no flac available. My thanks to seeder and taper.

Alan has played with all sorts of people in his career, including Stan Tracey, John Mayall, Mike Gibbs, Georgie Fame and Van Morrison. He was a member of the much-acclaimed saxophone trio SOS, along with Surman and Osborne.Sadly, I don't think he has recorded as much as leader as his rich talents deserve. I'd rate him as up there on a level with the top American tenor giants.Nowadays, I suspect being semi-retired, he plays occasional Coltrane tribute gigs, and in the company of veteran British altoist Pete King, Charlie Parker tributes. I was lucky enough to catch one of his Trane gigs a couple of years ago, which was tremendous. I recall a particularly beautiful rendition of Naima.
