Red Diorama "Gateway Light Up Base" scene: Great setup for almost any sci-fi diorama scene

This is my third posting of 1:6 scale diorama scenes by Red Diorama. The first toy blog post was on the Red Diorama "I shot the bus driver" scene - see the entry HERE and the second was the Red Diorama "Throne" scene: the perfect setting for 12-inch Loki, god of mischief, adoptive brother of Thor OR any other malevolent would-be / wannabe ruler of the world / galaxy / universe who needs a temporary throne while he ponders the next step in his grand scheme of things. You can check out the pictures HERE.

The Red Diorama "Gateway Light Up Base" scene, as the name implies, is a technological or magical doorway that connects two distant locations separated by spacetime. It usually consists of two or more gateways, with an object entering one gateway leaving via the other instantaneously. Places linked by a gateway or portal include a different spot in the same universe (in which case it might be an alternative for teleportation); a parallel world (inter-dimensional portal); the past or the future (time portal); and other planes of existence, such as heaven, hell or other afterworlds.

There are so many possibilities with a gateway scene / diorama and I went with Hot Toys MMS255 "Guardians of the Galaxy" 1/6th scale Star-Lord Collectible Figure (which I had reviewed already HERE, HERE and HERE). Here we see Star-Lord exiting the Red Diorama "Gateway Light Up Base" scene which measures 26cm L x 26cm W x 42cm H.

Unbelievable IHNS TOYS SO-00001 1/6th scale The Cave scene platform - diorama of dioramas!

The word diorama can either refer to a 19th-century mobile theatre device, or, in modern usage, a three-dimensional full-size or miniature model, sometimes enclosed in a glass showcase for a museum. Dioramas are often built by hobbyists as part of related hobbies such as military vehicle modelling, miniature figure modelling, or aircraft modelling. The word "diorama" originated in 1823 as a type of picture-viewing device, from the French in 1822. The word literally means "through that which is seen", from the Greek di- "through" + orama "that which is seen, a sight". The current, popular understanding of the term "diorama" denotes a partially three-dimensional, full-size replica or scale model of a landscape typically showing historical events, nature scenes or cityscapes, for purposes of education or entertainment.

This IHNS TOYS SO-00001 1/6th scale The Cave scene platform is officially the diorama of dioramas! And it's squarish design is intended to be able to fit inside a regular display cabinet. What a beauty.

Red Diorama "I shot the bus driver" scene: Recreate opening scene from The Dark Knight

Dioramas are nice additions to any 12-inch figure collection. The 1:6 scale model with its familiar surrounding brings the viewer immediately to the iconic scene he has seen before and makes the 12-inch figure seem more real and relatable. Case in point: Red Diorama's "I shot the bus driver" scene. Measuring 80cm in length by 50 cm in breadth and 80cm in height (it even lights up - see the pictures below), it complements any 1:6 scale figure nicely and certainly adds a nice touch to any collection, especially if you are a Christopher Nolan Batman The Dark Knight trilogy fan.

The 1:6 scale figure in the picture is the Hot Toys MMS79 The Dark Knight JOKER (Bank Robber version) 12-inch figure - full review posted on my toy blog way back HERE. Put it in front of Red Diorama's "I shot the bus driver" scene and it evokes a lot of memories of the movie and reminds us once again just how great Heath Ledger's acting was. See related posts HERE and HERE (Dark Knight sweeps People's Choice awards).

Review IV: Hot Toys Avengers: Age of Ultron 1/6th Iron Man Mark XLV 33cm figure & base

continued from previous toy blog post (action figure review III)...

Pre-order

This recently released (part of my June 2016 toy haul posted HERE) Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series Diecast MMS300-D11 Movie Masterpiece Series Die-cast "Avengers: Age of Ultron" 1/6th scale Iron Man Mark XLV 33cm Tall Collectible Figure is pretty awesome! For the price we paid, it has to be. I already covered the box packaging and contents HERE, followed by the cool LED light-up features HERE, and other cool accessories HERE; so now it's all about the base!

This movie-accurate Hot Toys Iron Man Mark XLV Collectible Figure is highly detailed and sophisticatedly crafted based on the image of the armor in the Marvel Studios "Avengers: Age of Ultron" film featuring a meticulously sculpted armored body, specially applied metallic red, gold and silver colored paint with weathered effects, LED light-up Arc Reactor with hexagonal-shaped indent on chest, and a specially designed diorama base with a detachable damaged Ultron Sentry (Prime)!

The 1/6th scale damaged Ultron Sentry (Prime) is separate from the base so that you can pose him anywhere you like. The specially designed diorama figure base is extremely sturdy and heavy as it has to be able to take the weight of the die-cast Mark XLV Iron Man figure without it toppling over, even when the figure is positioned with the flexible rod for more dynamic poses. It also comes with the regular upright rod for standing poses.

Red Diorama "Throne" scene: the perfect setting for Loki, god of mischief, adoptive brother of Thor

Continuing my review of the Red Diorama scenes (check out my previous toy blog post of the Red Diorama "I shot the bus driver" scene HERE), this particular diorama scene Hot Toys 12-inch Loki is standing on is the 1:6 scale "THRONE" which measures 24-inch L by 22-inch W by 10-inch H. The Red Diorama "Throne" scene is painted in gold and there's a nice sheen to it when it catches the light when displayed. It looks most appropriate for any 1:6 scale would-be / wannabe ruler of the world / galaxy / universe who needs a temporary throne while he ponders the next step in his grand scheme of things.

The 1:6 scale figure in the picture is the Hot Toys MMS231 "Thor: The Dark World" 1/6th scale Loki 12-inch Collectible Figure with authentic and detailed fully realized likeness of Tom Hiddleston as Loki (see the preview pictures HERE). He has both the 1/6th scale Aether and short scepter.

REVIEW of IHNS TOYS SO-00001 1/6th scale The Cave scene platform - It's quite awesome!

This is the recently released IHNS Toys SO-00001 1/6th scale The Cave scene platform. I don't usually get diorama sets as I prefer to keep all the space I have for collectible figures but found myself drawn to this set from the preview pictures posted (see the toy blog post HERE) and couldn't resist not getting it. This 1/6th scale Cave scene platform is designed for you to shoot photos with your figure in it to add a level of realism to the picture by adding texture and background. It comes with extra accessories so that you can customise the scene and create more options when you are shooting.

I've posted pictures of other diorama sets before. Some of them are quite large (like the Red Diorama "I shot the bus driver" scene posted HERE) while others are smaller (Red Diorama "Throne" scene - pics HERE and Red Diorama "Gateway Light Up Base" scene posted HERE). I like how this IHNS Toys SO-00001 1/6th scale The Cave scene platform can fit nicely inside the IKEA Detolf cabinet.

Review III: Gate Toys X Winson Classic Creation Time Wars 12-inch Yuan Kong figure + 1:6 scale Battle Damaged Mystic Being Steel Ox Crimson Flame deluxe diorama - that's quite a mouthful :p

continued from previous toy blog post...

Order Gate Toys X Winson Classic Creation 1:6 scale Time Wars Yuan Kong 12-inch collectible figure (ONLY 30 pcs available worldwide) at GATETOYSGLOBAL.com while stocks last!

This is my third 12-inch action figure review of Gate Toys X Winson Classic Creation 1:6 scale Time Wars Yuan Kong 12-inch collectible figure but in this post, I'm also covering the Battle Damaged Mystic Being Steel Ox Crimson Flame deluxe diorama which is an art piece by itself.

I really like the head sculpt of 1:6 scale Time Wars Yuan Kong and how they were able to combine real hair (fur) with the face sculpt. The head sculpt is quite expressive and captures the essence of the Monkey God “Sun Wu Kong” very well. Even though this is a sci-fi take on a traditional Chinese lore “Journey To The West”, one look at the face and you know who or what it's supposed to represent. The head sculpt is not like some of the sculpts out there with the blank stare looking into space expression. The antenna-like feelers (eye-brows?) are also a nice touch. You can check out the close-up pictures with all the nice details in my first part figure review HERE. It's amazing how they stayed intact and undamaged even when I put the bronze mask on (see earlier review post HERE).

The 1/6th scale Battle Damaged Mystic Being Steel Ox Crimson Flame deluxe diorama is equally stunning and I will cover all about it in this post. It's supposed to be the defeated enemy of Yuan Kong and what we are seeing is only the head as if it has been decapitated. The sculpting, the details and the nice addition of fur is all very well put together and the end result is something really lovely to look at.

Pre-order Sideshow Collectibles and Pop Culture Shock Judge Dredd 1:4th scale Diorama

Judge Joseph Dredd is a comics character whose strip in the British science fiction anthology 2000 AD is the magazine's longest running, having been featured there since its second issue in 1977. Dredd is a law enforcement officer in a violent city of the future where uniformed Judges combine the powers of police, judge, jury and executioner. Dredd and his fellow Judges are empowered to arrest, sentence and even execute criminals on the spot.

Sideshow Collectibles is proud to present, from Pop Culture Shock Collectibles, the Judge Dredd 1:4 Scale Diorama. This meticulously crafted statue of the 2000 AD lawman of the future features a detail packed sculpture and masterful painting. Dredd comes with two interchangeable versions of his Lawgiver gun and stands on the broken head of the 'Call-Me-Kenneth' robot featured in 2000 AD#10-17. This 20.5 inch tall diorama is a must-have collectible for any fan of Judge Dredd.

Joseph Dredd is the most famous of the elite corps of Street Judges that run Mega-City One with the power not only to enforce the law, but also to instantly convict and sentence offenders – and occasionally execute them. Dredd is armed with a "Lawgiver" pistol (programmed to recognise his palm-print alone and capable of firing six types of ammunition), a daystick, a knife, and stun/gas grenades. His helmet obscures all of his face except for his mouth and jaw. He rides a large "Lawmaster" motorbike, which has machineguns, a powerful laser cannon, and full artificial intelligence capable of responding to orders from the Judge and of driving itself.

Scale Store 1/6th scale Afghanistan Wall - GREAT for diorama or creating a scene

Scale Store ITEM NO:S0024 is a 1/6th scale Afghanistan Wall made of Resin Material. It looks nice for creating a scene or diorama but the problem with these items are the prices. After adding shipping, it becomes rather costly (almost doubled) and you have to think whether it's more worth it to spend the money on a 12-inch figure or splash it on an environment.

There will always be two sides to a coin i.e. some prefer figures while some prefer figures in an environment. Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion but some companies have been adding some extra little touches to their products without jacking up the price. Instead of just including the standard 12-inch figure display stand, some companies are throwing in a little extra in the form of a scenic base i.e. a non-standard black base, a base with some relevance to the character being featured. Some recent examples - Brother Production Hard-boiled "Harry" (pictures HERE), Art-Figures: SAVES "Punisher: War Zone" Figure (reviewed HERE) and Hot Toys Classic Predator (check out my post HERE). In the case of "Toms Forrest", the all important iconic bench was added to make Forrest Gump look complete :) - see pictures HERE

Hot Toys Rogue One: A Star Wars Story 1/6th scale Donnie Yen as Chirrut Îmwe Figure Review

May the Fourth be with you :) Happy Star Wars Day!

"I'm one with the Force; the Force is with me." Chirrut Îmwe

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, or simply Rogue One, is the first installment of the Star Wars Anthology series, set immediately before the events of the original Star Wars film. The cast includes Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker. Rogue One follows a group of rebels on a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star, the Galactic Empire's superweapon. Donnie Yen stars as Chirrut Îmwe, a Zatoichi-esque blind warrior who believes in the Force. He is said to be one of the Guardians of the Whills.

This is my latest haul and the first of May 2017. Hot Toys must have an affinity for Donnie Yen because they were rather fast in producing and releasing this Rogue One: A Star Wars Story 1/6th scale Chirrut Îmwe 12-inch Figure. It is no surprise since Hot Toys founder Howard Chan is also from Hong Kong and Donnie Yen is one of the biggest stars in Hong Kong. I'm also quite pleased to finally land a Donnie Yen 12-inch figure. Enterbay had the rights to the 1/6th scale Donnie Yen as Ip Man figure but I certainly wasn't going to get anything from them so this is my first mini Donnie Yen. While Ip Man didn't have many accessories, Chirrut Îmwe certainly is more equipped and his outfit / costume is more interesting.

The Iraq sequences were filmed in the California desert, while the homefront scenes are shot in and around the Greater Los Angeles area.

This 1/6 Over There diorama set by Scale Store features a fence with pavement and four (4) interchangeable signs: Caution - Radioactive Material, Danger - Biohazard, Halt! Stop! and District 9 sign (No Humans Allowed).

"I am Bane and I could kill you... but death would only end your agony and silence your shame. Instead, I will simply...BREAK YOU!"

Bane is an escaped convict from an island prison in South America and a super-villain/assassin. He became known as "The Man Who Broke the Bat" when he broke Batman's back, forcing Bruce Wayne to give up the Batman persona while he recuperated. Kotobukiya DC Comics Batman: Arkham Knight 1/10th Batman ARTFX+ Statue with diorama

The Dark Knight returns to Kotobukiya’s hit ARTFX+ lineup of superheroes and villains based on DC Comics characters, this time with Batman in his new armored costume from the Batman: Arkham Knight game. The 2015 installment is the fourth in the Batman: Arkham series and takes the Caped Crusader to a whole new level with a heavily armored look fully realized in this highly detailed 1/10th presentation.

Batman relentlessly hunts for the criminals attacking Gotham City (led by Scarecrow and the Arkham Knight), and to do that must break down a few doors. Sculpted 1/10th scale by M.I.C., Dark Knight is captured in mid-leap as he flies through the air in a dynamic pose that’s sure to catch any collector’s eye! Every detail of his new armor is complete down to the heavy plating, segmented joints, the tread on his boots, the weight of his new cape, and of course Batman’s traditional scowl under his pointed cowl.

A first for the ARTFX+ series, Batman comes with a new modular base system that lets you customize your display with a wide range of options; display Batman breaking through a wall, vaulting over rubble, or in the middle of delivering a flying side kick!

With multiple square and rectangular pieces plus a broken window, metal grate, and joint parts this set is all about building your own diorama base. Even better, you can really craft your own unique display by combining Batman’s architectural elements with those of his arch-rival the Arkham Knight (sold separately - see NEXT post) and show off the two fighting in a rich and complex Gotham City environment!

Pre-order “To the BATMOBILE” Batman 1/6 Maquette Diorama by Tweeterhead / Sideshow

You can preorder this from Sideshow Collectibles

Sideshow Collectibles and Tweeterhead are excited to present the "To the BATMOBILE" Batman Maquette Diorama, based on the classic television show. Artists at Tweeterhead painstakingly researched the Batman costume to ensure 100% accuracy to the original suit. This is supposed to be an extremely limited production and will include a special certificate autographed by Adam West.

Measuring 12.5 inches tall, Batman comes on a base that includes half of the Bat Computer. Soon to follow, the Robin Maquette (coming later this year) will include the second half of the Bat Computer to complete the Bat cave Diorama!

This Batman is from the 1960s American live action television series, based on the DC comic book character of the same name. It starred Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin — two crime-fighting heroes who defend Gotham City. It aired on the ABC network for three seasons from January 12, 1966 to March 14, 1968. The show was aired twice weekly for its first two seasons and weekly for the third, with a total of 120 episodes produced during its run. The program was known for its upbeat theme music and camp moral lessons, which included championing the importance of using seat belts, doing homework, eating vegetables and drinking milk among children.

Many sports, music, and media personalities, and a number of Hollywood actors, looked forward to and enjoyed their appearances as villains on the Batman show. They were generally allowed to overact and enjoy themselves on a high-rated television series, guaranteeing them considerable exposure (and thus boosting their careers).
