Hot Toys T-800 Terminator Figure (1984) REVIEW 1

The Cyberdyne Systems Model 101 Series 800 Terminator (T-800) was sent by Skynet in 2029 to Los Angeles in 1984 to kill Sarah Connor, the future mother of John Connor, the leader of the future human Resistance. It was the first Infiltrators sent back on assassination missions by Skynet, and is arguably the single most significant Terminator unit as it inadvertently "fathered" Skynet in its journey through time, much like how Kyle Reese fathered John Connor in his.

This is the recently released Hot Toys MMS136 (Movie Masterpiece Series) 1/6th scale T-800 12-inch Collectible Figure from "The Terminator" movie. "The Terminator" is a 1984 science fiction action film directed by James Cameron, co-written by Cameron and William Wisher Jr., and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, and Michael Biehn. It topped the American box office for two weeks and helped launch the film careers of James Cameron and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Terminator: Dark Fate is a 2019 American science fiction action film. It is the sixth installment in the Terminator franchise, and acts as a direct sequel to The Terminator (1984) and Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), while retconning other related works such as Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003), Terminator Salvation (2009), Terminator Genisys (2015), and the television series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (2008–2009) from the canon, following the return of creative control to Cameron.

From the 2019 Terminator: Dark Fate film, the ThreeZero Sarah Connor figure stands in 1/12 scale and is dressed in real fabric clothing. Standing over 6 inches tall, the Sarah Connor figure features a realistic likeness of actor Linda Hamilton and is built on a custom-designed action figure body with an incredible level of detail.

Dec 2016 – Calvin's Custom created two custom bikes for showcase at Toysoul 2016 in Hong Kong, one inspired by Mad Max, the other inspired by the Moto-terminator in Terminator Salvation (2009)

Dec 2016 – GATE TOYS invited Calvin's Custom to mass produce one of his custom bikes

March 2017 – Calvin's Custom designed a futuristic combat motorcycle under the title “Convergence” featuring a female rider

May 2017 – A public vote was conducted on Facebook to see which bikes was to be mass produced. The moto-terminator was picked

Alex: Congratulations on the launch of the Kickstarter project! What is it like to run this year long project?
Calvin: Thanks Alex! Time flies... it feels like yesterday when I was on stage talking about the custom bikes with Mr. Bryan Lo of ACI Toys and SEVEN Toys, whom I would like to take this space to thank him again for inviting me to showcase my custom bikes, without which this project would never have come into being.

It has been an amazing experience working with GATE TOYS. They have been totally supportive and gave me 100% creative freedom in the design and development process. Mr. Michael Zhu, co-founder of GATE TOYS told me to design whatever and however I like and let them worry about the production technicality. It felt almost like working on a film with unlimited budget, though time was limited as we were aiming at CICF in October 2017. Still, we managed to have prototypes of both 1/6 and 1/18 versions made for the show.

DID MA1009 1/6th scale LAPD Patrol Officer "Austin" aka Robert Patrick as T-1000 12" figure

Terminator 2: Judgment Day – In this sequel set eleven years after "The Terminator," young John Connor (Edward Furlong), the key to civilization's victory over a future robot uprising, is the target of the shape-shifting T-1000 (Robert Patrick), a Terminator sent from the future to kill him. Another Terminator, the revamped T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger), has been sent back to protect the boy. As John and his mother (Linda Hamilton) go on the run with the T-800, the boy forms an unexpected bond with the robot.

Robert Patrick stars as the T-1000: An advanced shape shifting prototypical Terminator composed of liquid metal sent back in time to assassinate John. Cameron stated that he "wanted to find someone who would be a good contrast to Arnold. If the 800 series [the model played by Schwarzenegger] is a kind of human Panzer tank, then the 1000 series had to be a Porsche." The T-1000 arrives under a freeway, kills a policeman and assumes his identity.

This is DID's latest offering of a 1/6th scale LAPD Patrol Officer named "Austin". He might as well be Robert Patrick as the T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgment Day. This is great for those who missed out on the Hot Toys MMS129 (Movie Masterpiece Series) Collector's Edition T-1000 1/6th scale collectible figure released in October 2010. Having already covered the latest Hot Toys MMS352 Terminator Genisys 1/6th scale Endoskeleton 33 cm tall Collectible Figure with LED-lighted eyes (posted earlier HERE and HERE), it's time to step back and look at all the other Terminators that have come before... at least those that I have in my collection. They include quite a number of Arnold Schwarzenegger as Terminator figures, Michael Biehn as Kyle Reese, Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor and Robert Patrick as T-1000.

First off, here's a look at the latest Hot Toys Endoskeleton (on the right in the picture above) standing next to the Aoshima die-cast T-800 Endoskeleton (on the left) released more than TEN (10) years ago. Hot Toys Terminator Genisys 1/6th scale Endoskeleton 33 cm Collectible Figure Review II

continued from previous toy blog post...

This is the recently released Hot Toys MMS352 Terminator Genisys 1/6th scale Endoskeleton 33 cm tall Collectible Figure with LED-lighted eyes (red light, battery operated, batteries included) and Endorifle. I like that Hot Toys includes the batteries (nowadays packed separately) which you can use to check out the light-up features. Other companies like ThreeA / ThreeZero and PewPewGun do not include batteries even though their figures have light-up features. It's quite a hassle when you already have the figure in-hand but you still need to go out and purchase the right size batteries to test the light-up elements, especially when you already paid quite a bit for the collectible figure. With all Hot Toys figures, batteries are included and packed separately these days, unlike in the past when the figures came with batteries already inserted. We all know what happens to electronic components when batteries are left in for too long. Check out my toy blog post "Hot Toy Collecting Tip #1: Remove ALL Batteries!" posted HERE.

Like I mentioned earlier, I'm quite glad Hot Toys didn't go the die-cast route with this 12-inch figure. They would probably face a lot of issues because of the thin parts like the pistons and such. The main problem would be the weight as the figure would be too top heavy and gravity will not be kind to it. As it is, this rather lightweight plastic made figure cannot stand on its own two feet. The steel-looking body looks very realistic with the specially applied multiple layers of metallic paint on the endoskeleton plus additional weathering effects. The pre-posed metallic-looking hands included for holding his weapon is a right move as articulated fingers would not be able to hold onto the rifle. The flexibility of the individual joints / digits will ultimately compromise the rigidity of the grasp. Even then, the large Endorifle is a tad heavy for the figure to grasp properly, let alone try to raise it.

GATE TOYS X Calvin's Custom 1/6th and 1/18th scale "MOTOTERMIN8TOR" Kickstarter Project

Calvin Lo is a master craftsman and exceptional customiser and kitbasher. If you don't know him already, you will very very soon because he's doing something that is quite mindblowing: his own Kickstarter project - Calvin's Custom "MOTOTERMIN8TOR" in both 1/6th and 1/18th scale. I have the honor and privilege to connect with him recently and he has been sharing with me his upcoming projects and this is one of them. GATE TOYS X Calvin's Custom "MOTOTERMIN8TOR" was most recently showcased at CICF 2017 (China International Comics Festival) and it is out of this world!

Review 1: Hot Toys Terminator Genisys 1/6th scale Endoskeleton 33 cm Collectible Figure

This was part of my September 2017 haul (see the toy blog post HERE)

In Terminator Genisys, the judgment day has arrived and more than 3 billion human lives have been lost in the attacks by Skynet. Survivors were captured and put into camps for exterminations. In 2029, Human Resistance leader John Connor has led a final intense battle against Skynet and its menacing armies of Endoskeletons in order to eliminate the hellish artificial intelligence.

This is actually the first Terminator endoskeleton by Hot Toys that I got. Hot Toys have released three versions earlier: there was the Terminator 2 T-800 Endoskeleton (MMS33) followed by a Battle-Damaged Endoskeleton only available as a Japanese exclusive and the T-700 from Terminator Salvation (MMS94) but I was never compelled to get any of them until now. Given the improvements Hot Toys has made over time in refining their products and improving their quality, I figured this was the best time as any to get hold of a Terminator endoskeleton.

September 2017 haul: Hot Toys Doctor Strange, Terminator Genisys Endoskeleton and Agent Salt

This is my second haul for September 2017, having collected the Hot Toys MMS359 Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice 1:6th scale Wonder Woman movie-accurate collectible earlier - see the action figure review posted on my toy blog HERE.

This time, I've got the Hot Toys MMS387 1/6th scale Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange 12-inch collectible figure (previewed one year ago HERE), Hot Toys MMS352 Terminator Genisys 1/6th scale Endoskeleton 33 cm tall Collectible Figure which was previewed even further back in February 2016 HERE, and Supermad Toys 1:6 scale Agent Salt (Angelina Jolie) 12-inch action figure (preview pics HERE)

Most times pre-orders take a while to be released and we really lose track of when they'll come so it's a nice surprise when they finally do arrive. Better late than never, as the saying goes. I enjoyed Benedict Cumberbatch's portrayal of Doctor Strange and am glad to be able to own a 12-inch Cumberpatch figure as I'm a fan of his work - Sherlock Holmes, The Imitation Game, Star Trek Into Darkness etc. And it seems Hot Toys like him too because this figure comes with quite a bit of accessories, compared to Hot Toys MMS363 Captain America: Civil War 1/6th scale Black Panther Collectible Figure which had ZERO accessories (see my review HERE). Owning 1/6th scale figures is like having a mini Hollywood in your home, with all the famous stars / actors lining your shelves.

Toyscity TC#6801 1/6th scale LA Cop uniform set would look great with a Robert Patrick 12" figure

1/6th scale Police Uniforms are always in demand and toy manufacturers have been releasing quite a number of them over the years. The most recent police uniform previewed on this toy blog was that of a Zombie Police Officer (posted HERE) and before that, there's the sweet looking police uniform belonging to female officer A. Lewis, soon to be released by Dam Toys (pictures HERE). Pop Toys also offered male and female police officer 12-inch figures but they just don't make the cut, especially the male officer because somehow they made him come across looking more like a male stripper LOL You can check out the pics HERE.

This Toyscity TC#6801 1/6th scale LA Cop uniform set should look very familiar to some of us, especially if you catch the "Austin" name tag and left-hand gun holster. It was famously worn by Robert Patrick, Jr. as a T-1000 in the 1991 science fiction action film "Terminator 2: Judgment Day". Hot Toys has already released a 1/6th scale T-1000 collectible figure (reviewed HERE. HERE and HERE) but this is good for those who missed out on it many years ago. If you put Hot Toys Storm Shadow figure (Lee Byung Hun) in this uniform, then you can have the T-1000 from Terminator Genisys (2015). Another villain who impersonated a police officer was The Joker in the 2008 superhero thriller film "The Dark Knight" played by Heath Ledger. CGL seems to have a thing for John Connor. They previewed the younger teenaged version played by Edward Furlong in 1:6 scale (see the toy blog post HERE) and now are showing us the adult version John Connor from Terminator Genisys. It's also more about selling the 12-inch figure body, offering us collectors another body option for 12-inch figure kitbashing. What's kitbashing? Well, you'll just have to check out my post HERE.

Terminator Genisys is a 2015 American science fiction action film, directed by Alan Taylor and written by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier. The fifth instalment in the Terminator franchise, the film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, reprising his role as the eponymous character, along with Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke and Jai Courtney. The film's plot follows soldier Kyle Reese in the war against Skynet, who is sent from the year 2029 to 1984 by John Connor, leader of the Human Resistance, to protect Connor's mother, Sarah Connor. However, once Reese arrives in the past, he discovers the timeline has been altered, and Sarah has been raised by a reprogrammed Terminator.

Jason Clarke stars as John Connor, the leader of the resistance, and later an advanced T-3000 Terminator. While Kyle was being sent back through time, a T-5000 (Matt Smith), the physical embodiment of Skynet disguised as a member of the Resistance, attacked John and transformed him into a nanocyte Terminator. John was tasked with ensuring Cyberdyne Systems' survival and traveled back in time to assist them with the development of Genisys.

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (also referred to as Terminator 3 or T3) is a 2003 American science fiction action film, directed by Jonathan Mostow and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Nick Stahl, Claire Danes, and Kristanna Loken. It is the third installment in the series, following Terminator 2: Judgment Day. It does not involve James Cameron, who directed and wrote the first two films. Kristanna Loken stars as T-X: the first on-screen female Terminator

The plot follows the events of the second installment. After Skynet fails to kill Sarah Connor before her son is born and to kill John himself as a child, it sends back another Terminator, the T-X, in an attempt to wipe out as many Resistance officers as possible. This includes John's future wife, but not John himself as his whereabouts are unknown to Skynet. John's life is placed in danger when the T-X accidentally finds him.

The Endoskeleton collectible figure is specially crafted based on the image of the terrifying robot from the film. It features the character’s complicated mechanical details throughout the body, specially applied multiple layers of metallic paint on skeleton with weathering effects, LED light-up eyes, a detailed Endorifle, and figure stand.
