1:1 scale 1966 Batmobile for Sale - The real deal

What became the iconic Batmobile used in the 1966–1968 live action television show and its film adaptation was a customized vehicle that originated as a one-off 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car, created by Ford Motor Company lead stylists Bill Schmidt, Doug Poole Sr., and John Najjar and their design team at the Lincoln Styling Department. 20th Century Fox Television hired George Barris to built for them a "Batmobile" for their upcoming Batman TV series. Barris had very little time and decided that, rather than building a car from scratch, it would be relatively easy to transform the distinctive Futura into the famous crime-fighting vehicle.

An advertisement placed on Hemmings, The World's Largest Collector Car Marketplace has listed the 1966 Batmobile for Sale

continued from previous toy blog post...

For those of us who have been following Calvin's 1:6 scale MOTOPSYCLE: mGT development, we know that there are different painted versions of the 1:6 scale MOTOPSYCLE: mGT. It looks like Calvin is planning on taking the same approach with the 1:18 version. Here's the 1:18 scale Military version in desert tan similar to its 1:6 'brother', featuring a custom 1:18 cyborg by Calvin a few years ago, with upgraded arms and legs.

Calvin told us that he is currently developing some 1:18 Futuristic Military Cyborgs, or at least accessories pack such as arms, hands and head to go with the MOTOPSYCLE:mGT. I can't wait to see what he has come up with. Knowing Calvin and his meticulous attention to details, we know we will not be disappointed. 2018 looks like it's going to be a good year :)

Currently, Calvin is in talks with the factory on the production cost and requirements to bring the MOTOPSYCLE to all 1:18 scale / 3.75-inch collectors via another Kickstarter campaign this year.

Exclusive interview with Calvin's Custom on Kickstarter Project: 1/6 scale MOTOPSYCLE: mGT, BORGHEAD & GUNRUNNER by Alex @ Toy Haven with Calvin @ Calvin's Custom

Alex: Congratulations on the launch of the Kickstarter project! What is it like to run this year long project?
Calvin: Thanks Alex! Time flies... it feels like yesterday when I was on stage talking about the custom bikes with Mr. Bryan Lo of ACI Toys and SEVEN Toys, whom I would like to take this space to thank him again for inviting me to showcase my custom bikes, without which this project would never have come into being.

It has been an amazing experience working with GATE TOYS. They have been totally supportive and gave me 100% creative freedom in the design and development process. Mr. Michael Zhu, co-founder of GATE TOYS told me to design whatever and however I like and let them worry about the production technicality. It felt almost like working on a film with unlimited budget, though time was limited as we were aiming at CICF in October 2017. Still, we managed to have prototypes of both 1/6 and 1/18 versions made for the show.

Check out Calvin's Custom x Gate Toys 1/6 scale MOTOPSYCLE: mGT (mobile Gun Tower), BORGHEAD & GUNRUNNER on Kickstarter

Original design 1/6 combat motorcycle, advanced ballistic weapons and cyborg headsculpt by Calvin's Custom, a GATE TOYS Production. Available on Kickstarter (link HERE)

About Calvin:
Throughout 17 years of customizing, amongst many weapon mod, angel and cyborg designs, I have never stopped customizing bikes. In 2016, I created four bikes - two post-apocalyptic Mad Max style, one inspired by the Bat-Pod in The Dark Knight and one inspired by the Moto-Terminator in Terminator 4.

Following the ‘heroes/heroines and their steeds’ tradition - Zorro with Tornado, Ghostrider with Hell Cycle, Wonder Woman with Pegasus, and Barb Wire with her Harley Davidson - I believe a two-wheeled vehicle helps enhance a character's presence and amplify the valor, menace or evilness that the character embodies.

Feedback from collectors and friends reinforced that my creation deserves a name of its own. To me, being a customizer has always been a form of madness, one that involves tearing things apart, constantly aiming for the ‘what-has-never been done’, in ways that ‘have never-been-tempted’. In this spirit, I’ve named this project MOTOPSYCLE: mGT - a weapon of mass destruction on two wheels, the Gran Turismo of war.

MOTOPSYCLE: mGT (mobile Gun Tower)
Specifications: The 1/6 scale MOTOPSYCLE: mGT weights around 1.7kg, is approximately 40cm long, and 20cm tall and wide. It's comprised mostly of different grades of plastic with some alloy parts. Both the eyes of the cyborg skull headlight and the nuclear powered tank on top glow with LED lights powered by lithium battery.

Medicom Toys "Back to The Future II" Future Car is Police Spinner in Ridley Scott's Blade Runner

continued from previous toy blog post...

In Ridley Scott‘s Blade Runner, the year was 2019 and the future is set in a dystopian Los Angeles. Besides the story and Harrison Ford, it was also memorable for the flying cars or 'Spinners'. Spinner is a nickname for the type of Police flying car in Blade Runner that can drive as a ground car, take off vertically, hover and cruise using jet propulsion much like Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft today.

The film Back to the Future Part II paid homage to the Spinner from Blade Runner in that a repainted spinner can be seen parked in a driveway. A spinner car also rests on the Hill Valley Street during the hoverboard chase.

Medicom Toys released this Back to the Future Part II future car as a vehicle for their Kubrick line of mini figures and called it a Miracle Action Vehicle. The Spinner is missing the blinking police lights, blue police colours and markings but has turning wheels which retract for flight-mode and winged doors that opened upwards. The glass bubble cockpit allows the occupants to look up, forward & rear as well as downwards when it is in flight.

Medicom Kubrick 2001 Planet of the Apes Set C with Mark Wahlberg as Leo + space pod Review

Planet of the Apes is an American science fiction media franchise consisting of films, books, television series, comics, and other media about a world in which humans and intelligent apes clash for control. The series began with French author Pierre Boulle's 1963 novel La Planète des Singes, translated into English as Planet of the Apes or Monkey Planet. The 1968 film adaptation, Planet of the Apes, was a critical and commercial hit, initiating a series of sequels. Four sequels followed the original film between 1970 and 1973: Beneath the Planet of the Apes, Escape from the Planet of the Apes, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, and Battle for the Planet of the Apes. They did not approach the critical acclaim of the original, but were commercially successful.

Planet of the Apes is a 2001 American science fiction film directed by Tim Burton and starring Mark Wahlberg, Tim Roth, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Clarke Duncan, Paul Giamatti, and Estella Warren. The sixth film produced in the Planet of the Apes franchise, it was loosely adapted from Pierre Boulle's 1963 novel of the same name and the 1968 film version. It tells the story of astronaut Leo Davidson crash-landing on a planet inhabited by intelligent apes. The apes treat humans as slaves, but with the help of an ape named Ari, Leo starts a rebellion.

Medicom Toys released 12 Planet of the Apes box sets under their Kubrick series of mini figures which covered all the first six Planet of the Apes films. A new reboot film series commenced in 2011 with Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which was followed by Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in 2014; another sequel, titled War for the Planet of the Apes, opens in cinema theatres this week.

Medicom Kubrick Planet of the Apes Set A to H covered the first five films while the newer film released in 2001 had 4 box sets. Medicom Kubrick 2001 Planet of the Apes Set C which is being featured here is one of the four sets mentioned. Set C features a mini figure of Mark Wahlberg as astronaut Captain Leo Davidson, Estella Warren as slave girl Daena and Davidson's simian co-worker, chimpanzee named Pericles. The space pod which sent both Pericles and Leo to the Planet of the Apes is also included.

23 Rare 'Battlestar Galactica' and 'Buck Rogers' Models Being Auctioned (Est $1.5 to $2million)

This original article is posted on www.hollywoodreporter.com - link HERE

Got a spare million or two? Or maybe your own sci-fi museum? Here’s something you might want. The 23 Rare 'Battlestar Galactica' and 'Buck Rogers' collection, being offered as a set, has an estimate of $1.5 - $2 million. The auction is slated for June 28.

A 23-item collection of Battlestar Galactica (the original 1978 TV series) and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (from 1979) screen-used miniatures is up for auction. The models are being sold as a set with an estimate of $1.5 million - $2 million. Profiles in History is conducting the auction, which is slated for June 28.

The set includes a screen-used Galactica, Colonial Viper and Cylon Raider. The Galactica is massive, measuring 6 feet by almost 3 feet, and is wired with a lightbox so it can be illuminated. The Viper, which is 15 inches by 8 inches, has halogen lights in the rear that can be activated and was the principal model used in promotional images. The Cylon fighter (17”x13”) is the only remaining model configured as it was when it was built (and one of only two models built for the original show). There are also numerous other Galactica models for ships that made up the fleet and enemy Cylon ships.

Ralph McQuarrie, the legendary production designer who is responsible for much of the look of Star Wars, did the original designs for Battlestar Galactica, including Galactica and the Viper and Cylon fighters. The models were built by many of the people who worked on Star Wars, including Oscar winners John Dykstra, Grant McCune and Richard Edlund

Toy Haven 3 - Almost complete: check out my new place :) lots of action figures on display

continued from previous toy blog post...

Most of the figures have been put up at my new place (dubbed Toy Haven 3) and I quite like the look of it :) From Japanese anime / manga heroes like Astro Boy to Tokusatsu superhero TV serials (Kamen Riders and Ultraman) to Western TV / Film characters like Hit Girl from Kick Ass, Green Hornet and Kato, Iron Man, Wolverine, Batman, Superman, Russell Crowe's Roman General and Gladiator, Gerard Butler's King Leonidas from 300, Tom Hank's Forrest Gump and Saving Private Ryan, Johnny Depp's many characters (Edward Scissorhands, Captain Jack Sparrow, Benjamin Barker / Sweeney Todd, Tonto, John Dillinger), Brad Pitt's roles in various films (Fight Club, Fury, Seven, Troy, Inglourious Basterds, World War Z), Aliens, Predator, Marvel's The Avengers, Star Wars, Terminator, RoboCop... the list goes on.

That's the beauty of collecting 1/6th scale figures. After collecting for over 22 years, you realise that a lot of movie-related action figures have been produced and released over this period and I've been blessed with quite the collection and a wife who fully supports my hobby (some may say obsession LOL). She says the collection makes the house unique and is quite the talking point whenever we get visitors. Obviously, I agree with her totally haha. Besides the 13 IKEA detolf display cabinets housing most of the 12-inch collectible figures, there's also the customised 98.5" L x 84" H x 19.25" D (2500mm L x 2134mm H x 495mm D) full glass display shelf which has most of the Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series 1/6th scale figures I own.

Review: DC Comics "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" 1:24 scale Metal Die-Cast Batmobile

"To the Batmobile!"

This was part of my haul from December 2016 posted on my toy blog HERE

The Batmobile is a state of the art all-terrain, self-powered, armored fighting motor vehicle used for vehicular hot pursuit, prisoner transportation, anti-tank warfare, riot control, and as a mobile crime lab. Kept in the Batcave, which it accesses through a hidden entrance, the heavily armoured, gadget-laden vehicle is used by Batman in his crime-fighting activities.

The Batmobile made its first appearance in Detective Comics #27 (May, 1939). Then a red sedan, it was simply referred to as "his car". Soon it began featuring an increasingly prominent bat motif, typically including distinctive wing-shaped tailfins. Armored in the early stages of Batman's career, it has been customized over time into a sleek armoured / supercar-hybrid, and is the most technologically advanced crime-fighting asset within Batman's arsenal. Depictions of the vehicle has evolved along with the character, with each incarnation reflecting evolving car technologies. It has appeared in every Batman iteration—from comic books and television to films and video games—and has since gone on to be a part of pop culture.

The Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Batmobile is said to be a combined inspiration from both the sleek, streamlined design of classic Batmobiles and the high-suspension, military build from the more recent Tumbler from The Dark Knight Trilogy. Designed by production designer Patrick Tatopoulos and Dennis McCarthy, the Batmobile is about 20 feet long and 12 feet wide. Unlike previous Batmobiles, it has a gatling gun sitting on the front and the back tires are shaved down tractor tires. The Batmobile elevates itself for scenes depicting it going into battle or when performing jumps, and lowers to the ground when cruising through the streets.

ToyHaven 3 – Work-In-Progress Report Part 2

continued from previous toy blog post...

I am most happy to report that the customised 98.5" L x 84" H x 19.25" D (2500mm L x 2134mm H x 495mm D) full glass display shelf which will be the centre piece of my new place (ToyHaven3) is coming along nicely :) Lots of stuff to put in and I'm not even halfway there yet LOL

The plan is to display Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series 1/6th scale figures because of the high quality finishing and superbly crafted pieces and it's going to take a while to get organised and choose which figures to display up front and which ones to be behind. The great thing about it being all glass is that I can also choose to display them back to back so that they face out on both sides. Still thinking about the many possibilities for display.
