Mr. Sheffey, of Augusta.
Hugh W. Sheffey, Esq., the former distinguished Senator from Augusta county, who was nominated as one of the Union candidates for the Convention from Augusta county, withdrew from the canvass before the election. His election was considered by his friends as certain, but he resigned to prevent any distraction in the ranks of the Union men of the county, there being more candidates of that class than could be elected. Mr. Sheffey was one of the most distinguished members of the Convention of 1850, and his district will be fortunate if she secures at this time as able and influential a representative.
