My 2015 Chinese New Year Of The Goat

With the blink of an eye, Chinese New Year came and went. Just like that. I miss the Chinese New Year holidays and the festive mood but mostly, I miss the food!!

So today, I will just blog a little about my Chinese New Year of the Goat. By the way, I am too lazy to use my camera these days, so all photos in this post were taken using Xiaomi's Mi3.

One food I really enjoyed this Chinese New Year was the pineapple tarts which I bought from Aeon Supermarket. Priced at only RM10.88 per tub a few days before the first day of Chinese New Year (it was priced at RM13.88 earlier), I quickly bought loads of them!

 photo IMG_20150305_001447_1_zpsbwpmjbao.jpg

Look at the generous amount of pineapples! So juicy and so yummy! By the way, if you don't like your pineapple tarts to be a mixture of sweet and sour, then you won't like this. But if you do, these pineapple tarts are heavenly!

I also bought kuih bangkit from Aeon but unfortunately, even though the price was good (I think it was RM8.88), the kuih bangkit itself was not that good. No melt-in-the-mouth but I still bought it because I like the cute shape and design! LOL.

 photo IMG_20150228_203425_zpsenoewyiv.jpg

This year, I had my fair share of the scrumptious yee sang at many different Chinese restaurants, but guess what? It was quite unbelievable, but none of them was as good as the yee sang I bought from Aeon!

 photo IMG_20150301_210518_1_zpsr265ts3c.jpg

The generous amount and variety of fresh ingredients made the yee sang from Aeon my top favourite for the year. So yummy! By the way, if you can't see any fish in this yee sang, that's because I did not want to include raw salmon inside. I have stopped eating raw salmon since last year for health reasons.

 photo IMG_20150301_211405_1_zpsc9iuwud3.jpg

Now it may seem as if I am promoting Aeon, but in reality, I am not. It just so happens that I like their pineapple tarts and yee sang a lot! Haha!

A few days before Chinese New Year, I received a Chinese New Year card in the mail. I don't receive many cards nowadays (most people prefer to just send CNY greetings via Whatsapp) so I was curious to know who sent this.

 photo IMG_20150217_142732_zpsnenqezhc.jpg

Opening it up, I saw that to my surprise, it was from Twilight Man! Thank you Twilight for this nice card! Sorry can't send you a card in return - it would probably reach you after the Chinese New Year so it does not make sense for me to send.

 photo IMG_20150217_142804_zpsrt6ehivg.jpg

A few years back, my blogger friend Merryn Tan made me an angpow fish. I wanted another one this year so she made me one.

 photo IMG_20150217_134947_zpsj24yj2w5.jpg

In fact, I requested for two angpow fishes, but she said she ran out of angpows, so she made me an angpow star instead. Do you like it? Thank you Merryn for the angpow fish and star! Next year, I want a real angpow with money inside! Hahaha!

 photo IMG_20150217_131225_zpsu76vuhwh.jpg

Another online friend Angeline Chee sent me some angpow fishes as well, all the way from Taiping! How nice of her! When I opened up the parcel, I was surprised to see this.

 photo IMG_20150217_143022_zps0myfxwnh.jpg

For a moment I hoped it was from Coach. But of course I did not expect anything expensive inside. LOL! These are the angpow fishes she made for me. Thank you Angeline for the awesome packaging!

 photo IMG_20150217_144948_zpssz62gwev.jpg

I like receiving angpows! Who does not? Every year, Astro likes to come out with interesting angpows. This year being the Year of the Goat (or Sheep if you prefer), Astro came out with these cute looking angpows.

 photo IMG_20150219_144434_1_zpslrtxccw5.jpg

Do you like them? I am keeping them as collector's items. I plan to collect them every year so that I will eventually have all 12 animal signs!

 photo IMG_20150219_144235_1_zpsbebgrdi6.jpg

How many Mandarin oranges did you eat this year? I did not eat a lot as I think these oranges are pretty unhealthy. Yes, it's true - not all fruits are good for you!

 photo IMG_20150304_002119_1_zpsiazpwmei.jpg

But no matter what, do not throw your Mandarin oranges into the river or sea. Such a waste, no? Better to eat them I say. Haha!

Gosh, I am missing the Chinese New Year already!! Blogging about Chinese New Year makes me miss it even more! Oh well, you just have to move on and look forward to the next Chinese New Year of the Monkey!

My Flasher At Work Fototee T-Shirt!

Recently I won a contest on Twitter and received this T-shirt.

It's a T-shirt from Fototee, a new brand name created by Raymond Lee, a self-taught photographer. Check out his online site HERE.

I thought the quote on the T-shirt is pretty funny, don't you agree?

This M-size T-shirt fitted me perfectly so I was happy enough to take a photo of myself wearing it! LOL!

I thought the black, blue and white colours work really well together! Besides, I find the T-shirt is of good quality. Made from 100% cotton, it is neither too thin nor too thick in texture. Just perfect!

Priced at only RM30 (USD9.80) excluding shipment, it is definitely worth buying!

There are other T-shirts with equally funny quotes on sale at his online store so do check them out HERE.

By the way, do you normally hand wash your good quality T-shirts or do you machine wash them?

1. Welcome to my 27th Random Note post! Wonder when I will reach Random Notes 100! Maybe I will celebrate by giving away stuffs to my readers once I reach that milestone! Haha!

2. Last month, I decided to drop the word 'blogspot' from my blog's address. Yes, that's right! I have upgraded to a dot com. Now my blog's URL is http://www.foongpc.com. (You can leave out the 'www' and just type in foongpc.com in your browser). Please update the link, will you?

3. For those of you who have problem updating my blog in your Blogroll, you can enter my feeds URL instead. Just type the following - http://feeds.feedburner.com/MyVeryFirstBlog. Thank you!

4. OK, this one is long overdue. Last month (or was it two months ago?), I received a gift from blogger SK for winning a few awards in his blog. Read his blog post HERE to know what awards I won.

Isn't this cute?

SK had done a wonderful job designing the CD cover and the CD itself! Love it!

Oh! All my favorite songs in one CD! Cool! And a nice note at the bottom. Thanks SK! : )

5. Recently, I signed up for the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf member card. I love Coffee Bean's coffee and their all-day breakfast set! Miles better than the more famous Starbucks, let me tell you!

My favourite breakfast meal in Coffee Bean is the Club Sandwich set! It comes with 2 big pieces of bread with ham and eggs, salad and a cup of hot Sumatra dark coffee!

There are other good breakfast sets but this one is clearly my favourite! As a member, you get to collect bean points which can be used for future purchases of food or drinks at any of their outlets. Coffee Bean For the Win! : )

6. Do you like bubble gum? Well I like to chew on a bubble gum occasionally and my favourite brand is Dentyne. In fact, this bubble gum was recommended to me by a dentist friend! So imagine my shock when I found out that this brand is no longer available in Malaysia!

Luckily, I managed to find Dentyne selling in Bangkok when I went there for a short holiday recently! So I bought a few back. However, I'm still wondering why it is no longer selling in Malaysia. Anyone knows?

7. A good friend of mine who had just returned from a holiday in Spain got me this nice fridge magnet as a souvenir.

Football fans will know that this is the logo of the Futbol Club Barcelona or Barca based in Barcelona, Spain. Its long-time rival is Real Madrid but of course, you knew that already unless you are not into football.

So, to all you football fans, which side are you on - Barca or Real Madrid?

8. I have never liked eating porridge. I only eat it when I'm sick. That's a fact! However, this fact no longer holds true lately. My mom cooked this hou see fa sang (dried oyster and groundnut) porridge the other day and it was delicious!

Throw in some you tiao (Chinese fried crullers) and it's irresistible!

Then, a few days later, she cooked this choy kon (dried Chinese white cabbage) porridge and I loved it as well! Whatever happened to me? I was transformed from a person who hate porridge to a person who love it literally overnight! Amazing!

9. I am now on Pinterest! Are you? If not, come join me! For those of you who are already on Pinterest, do follow me, won't you? Don't be surprised to find some of your blog's pictures on my Pinterest site! Yes, I now pin any pictures I like from blogs and websites onto my Pinterest boards!

But don't worry, any of your pictures that are pinned have links that lead right back to your blog! You can even re-pin the pictures you see on my Pinterest site to your Pinterest site. But the pictures will always link back to the original owners no matter how many times they are being re-pinned. How cool!

Now do take a minute and see the pictures I have pinned on Pinterest HERE.

10. I have to admit, I am getting more and more addicted to coffee. I am not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Well, I guess I will have to control myself. This is iced coffee I took one afternoon to keep myself awake!

If you want to know why I really drink coffee, read THIS!

11. I have set up a Mariah Carey mix tape on AtticTV. Currently there are 51 of her top hits in my collection - all carefully selected by yours truly. Enjoy them now by clicking HERE.

You can also sign in to AtticTV and listen to the different genre of songs and videos available there ranging from pop, hip-hop, and classical to Chinese music and even K-pop! And if you like, create your own mixtape!

12. Although I have been to the famous Snowflake Taiwanese Dessert many times for their wonderful ice desserts, it was my first time trying out their Sea Amber Jelly.

It was really quite nice! But of course nothing could match my all time favourite - the Japan Combo II soya ice special!

1. Should I name this post Random Notes 23B? Most Chinese people do not like the number 24 as it sounds almost like 'easy to die' in Cantonese.

2. It is amusing to enter a lift in a condo and see buttons 4, 13, 14 and 24 missing. Instead, the 4th floor is replaced with 5th, 13th floor replaced with 16th and so on. So if you press button 25, do you know which floor you are going to actually? Let's see if you can do the maths! Haha!

3. I went to watch 'The Secret Life of Nora' musical at Istana Budaya KL a few weeks ago. I went there with high expectation but unfortunately it was not awesome enough for me.

I can only say that Adibah Noor and Aznil Nawawi's funny antics plus the outstanding dance choreography saved the show from being average.

4. Last month I received a gift from Filipino blogger Bluedreamer! It was a Kernel-Pult plush toy from the Plants vs Zombies game. Thanks Bluedreamer for this cute gift!

5. I had flu and a really bad cough a few weeks back that would not go away. The cough was so bad I could not sleep at night. I normally don't see a doctor for flu but I almost resorted to seeing one for this horrible cough. Then, my mom asked me to eat this leaf.

Do you know what leaf this is? I don't, but I have this plant in my garden LOL! I ate the leaf raw and I must tell you it was bitter and had an aftertaste that I did not like! But guess what? After eating just two leaves one night, I immediately stopped coughing!

It was like a miracle! Of course the cough was not completely gone but I would say it was reduced by as much as 80 percent! I even had a good sleep that night! It was definitely better than any cough medicine I know!

6. It had been some time since I last dine at the New Paris Restaurant in SS2 PJ. I had the opportunity to go for dinner with my brother and sis-in-law at this famous restaurant last month. The dish I liked best was this - watermelon chicken! So yummy!

7. Are you a fan of X Factor? Recently, I was engrossed in X Factor USA reality show on 8TV. Having been bored to death with American Idol, this new show is like a breath of fresh air! In fact I like all the 4 judges here especially Nicole Scherzinger.

There were so much drama and unexpected twists in this reality show that I was hooked. Besides, the contestants are all so talented, although not all of them have the X factor, I must say.

8. Do you like 'pun choy'? I am not a fan - in fact, I find it boring! - but I thought this one from Restoran LYJ in Kampung Baru Sungai Buloh quite good.

The other side of the poon choy

9. Christmas is coming soon!! I know, I know, I should not be talking about Christmas when Deepavali is not even over yet, but I just love the Xmas mood! Cant wait for another Christmassy December and end of the year holidays!

I wonder if 1Utama shopping mall will put up this cute snowman again after it went missing for the past few years?

1. I received a gift from blogger SK the other day. It was an unexpected award for Top Commenter in his blog! Thanks for the award, SK! I really love it!

Oh! He also left a message on the other side of the award! Nice! : )

2. My stickers from GetGlue arrived last week! Are you a member of GetGlue? For the uninitiated, GetGlue is an entertainment based social networking site. If you are into movies, TV shows, sports, celebrities and songs, then GetGlue is for you!

By checking in on the website, you can earn points and stickers! These stickers were mailed to me all the way from USA at no cost to me! Interested? Join and follow me HERE.

3. Two weeks ago, my family and I visited Putrajaya Floria 2011, a Flower and Garden Festival. We went there after dinner, so it was pretty dark by the time we reached there.

I did not really get to enjoy the flowers as the lightings were insufficient. Perhaps we should have gone there in the day time. But I enjoyed walking around and reading historical facts which were displayed on the side of this walkway.

OK, to those of you who have been to Putrajaya, do you know what is the name of this bridge? It was beautifully lighted up that night.

Although I did not get to see the flowers properly in the dark, I was lucky enough to see a float on the lake. There were a few floats that night but only this float from Tourism Malaysia were near enough for me to take a shot at with my camera.

Here are a few magnified pictures of the float. This is the famous Petronas Twin Towers.

Orangutan from Sabah and next to it, the Rafflesia flower - the biggest flower on earth!

Can you see the fishes and the divers?

The Flower & Garden Festival had already ended its run. Perhaps there will be Putrajaya Floria 2012 ? You can read more about the festival HERE.

4. If you remember, I wrote about my favourite actress Angelina Jolie in a Louis Vuitton ad last month. To recall, read HERE.

Now comes this full length Louis Vuitton commercial featuring Angelina Jolie. I love, love, love this video! Since I am in the midst of blogging about my Cambodia trip, I thought I would like to share with you all this nice video.

In it, you can see Angelina talked about her journey in Cambodia, how she felt about the people there and what made it so special for her. Fast forward to the 6th minute, and you will see her talking about eating crickets and spiders! And of course, you'll get to see how she was filmed in the commercial. Enjoy!!

1. After our reunion dinner on Chinese New Year Eve, my family and I took a leisure walk around Pavilion Shopping Mall in KL. A lot of shops were already closed so we were surprised to see this Fossil outlet left opened with lights turned off and no one inside!

Wow! I should have just gone and in and helped myself! How careless of them! Or maybe they have invisible laser beams that will fry anyone who enters the doorway! Better not take any risk - I still want to celebrate Chinese New Year the next day! : )

2. I have finally figured out my way around Sunway Pyramid after all these years, believe it or not! I have always lost my way in Sunway Pyramid as I seldom go there, but last Monday, while everyone resumed work after the Chinese New Year holidays, I took the day off to visit this shopping mall.

After walking around and looking at the floor plan, I soon realized it was not as complicated as it seemed. Shall I celebrate my first achievement in this Year of the Rabbit? haha!

By the way, I have never tried skating at this ice rink. And now I am simply too shy to even attempt it!

3. Do you like Starbucks or Coffee Bean? I normally prefer Starbucks but since I had a RM25 Coffee Bean voucher with me, I visited the latter the other day in Mid Valley Megamall.

I ordered their most expensive drink, which was the Ultimate Mocha (RM15.30) and also tried their Red Velvet Cake (RM8.90). Not bad!

4. I spent part of my Chinese New Year holidays watching Glee Season 1 and Lady Gaga live concert.

I bought these good quality DVDs during my trip in Bangkok last year and it was worth it! Only about RM40 for Glee (6 DVDs) and RM7 for Lady Gaga!

5. I also watched this cute cartoon called Panda Kopanda simply because I like anything to do with pandas! Haha!!

While others watch Doraemon, Pikachu or Ultraman, I prefer to watch Panda Kopanda instead! Haha!

6. Talking about pandas, I would like to thank Eric Lee for giving me this panda head for my Christmas gift last year! How nice! Now I can always hide behind this panda face when someone takes my photo! LOL!

7. I would also like to thank dear blogger friend, Merryn for making me this beautiful angpow fish for Chinese New Year! Did you notice the hole in the middle is shaped like the ancient Chinese coin? Don't you think it's lovely?

8. After eating all the Chinese New Year food for so many days, I was getting quite sick of them! So imagine how refreshing it was for me when I went to Papparich at The Gardens Mall and ordered these!

Fried rice - simple and tasty!

Toasts with butter and kaya - heavenly!

Hot honey lemon tea - soothing!

9. OK, here's a poem I composed for the Chinese New Year and which I sent to some of my friends on the first day of the new year. I have made some little changes to the poem and decided to share it with you all today. Enjoy!!

So here we are the New Year of the Metal Rabbit,
So how's your New Year - is it great or you just don't care?
It's the time of the year when your work can take a backseat,
Now let's read this poem specially written by your friendly Panda bear!

How I wish the Chinese New Year holidays will last forever,
Or at least lasts all the way from now till December!
Imagine no working for one whole year,
And go traveling the world all over!

Alas not working means no income,
Unless you are as rich as Bill Gates or Donald Trump!
Or having Oprah Winfrey as your mom,
Then no worries even during the economic slump!

OK let's stop dreaming and just enjoy the Chinese New Year of the Rabbit,
Stuffing myself silly with pineapple tarts, arrowheads and kuih kapit,
Getting fat this holidays is no impossible feat,
Ladies, I just hope you won't end up buying clothes at Ms Read!

Chinese New Year is the time when I refuse to look at the music sheet,
Or play the piano for my guests like a perverted self-exhibit!
All I wanna do is just relax and eat, eat, eat!
Here's wishing you all a Happy Chinese New Year of the Metal Rabbit!
