SkyBar vs Luna Bar (Part 2)

In Part 1, I blogged about Luna Bar. Now it's SkyBar's turn.

Located on the 33rd floor of Traders Hotel (next to KL Convention Centre), SkyBar was every bit as impressive as Luna Bar, if not more.

I was there quite early at about 6pm and there were still a few people swimming in the pool. Yes, just like Luna Bar, there's also a swimming pool in SkyBar. However, no one swims there in the later part of the evening or rather, no one is allowed to swim during that time.

Can you see the Twin Towers from here? Don't you just love to sit beside the glass windows with those comfortable cushions looking out at the magnificent Twin Towers?

SkyBar looks even better at night!

I love the ambience here, especially with the beautiful Twin Towers in the background!

Me and my friend ordered some nuts and a strawberry shake each. No alcoholic drinks for me as it was too freaking expensive and I needed to drive later!

Oh well, maybe I will just drop by one of these days to have an alcoholic drink when I am in the mood for it! Haha!

From where we were seated, I could have a bird's eye view of the park and waterfall below.

This waterfall is located at the park opposite the KL Convention Centre.

I took a picture of one part of the waterfall earlier when I was near the park.

From up here, I could also see the fountain and lake outside Suria KLCC.

Oh, and the swimming pool too!

I must bring a binocular next time to enjoy watching from afar!

As the sun began to set, it was time to take some photos of the Twin Towers.

And the KL Tower as well!

Or how about combining Twin Towers and KL Tower in one photo?

We continued clicking away like nobody's business. I think those people who saw us must have thought we were tourists!

Wow! This handphone shoots out flames! And it's directed at the Twin Towers! Haha!

A close-up shot of the Twin Towers (with Public Bank in the background)

Have any of you went up there at that bridge connecting the two towers?

I just love the Twin Towers - it is my favourite building and I am so glad our former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir had the foresight to build it! Imagine KL without the Twin Towers!

OK, just in case this post is going to turn into a post on the Twin Towers, let me get back to the topic at hand here that is, SkyBar vs Luna Bar.

So which one of these two roof-top bars is the better one? Let me see....

1. Both Luna Bar and SkyBar have very nice ambience. But SkyBar definitely trumps Luna Bar when it comes to the view outside the window! Probably that's the reason why I posted so many photos of the Twin Towers! Haha!

Besides, you can only see ONE of the two towers at Luna Bar. At SkyBar, the sight of both the towers are so magnificent it's hard not to be awed!

2. Although SkyBar has magnificent views, I can't help feeling a bit disappointed that they do not have an open roof-top bar like Luna Bar! In this regard, I think Luna Bar trumps SkyBar!

3. I think Skybar is probably more popular as it seems to fill up pretty fast compared to Luna Bar. Or is it because Luna Bar is bigger and can accommodate more people? Not sure about this, but one thing is for sure. Luna Bar has a RM50 cover charge on weekends after 9.30pm. That's not good!

4. I have problem finding Luna Bar in the Pacific Regency Hotel. It was complicating going up two different lifts and a series of staircases! Directing people to Luna Bar would be such a hassle! In contrast, going up to SkyBar was a breeze!

5. The service for both Luna Bar and SkyBar was generally OK. But I was appalled when the waitress at Luna Bar actually gave us the bill without us requesting for it and she also took away my drink before I gave her the permission to do so! How horrible!

I could not really comment on the prices and quality of food and drinks as I did not eat or drink a lot at both of these bars. Although I must say the pizza at Luna Bar was really nice!

My conclusion? Although different people may have different opinions, to me at least, I think SkyBar is the better of the two roof-top bars. What about you?

1. Last year, I received a nice souvenir from blogger Wenn. It was a souvenir from her Hong Kong trip.

This is the card I received.

When I opened up the card, I saw my this! Aren't they cute! Thanks Wenn for this wonderful souvenir!

2. I am an extremely loyal Shell petrol user. If my car is in danger of running out of petrol, I would not simply drive to any nearest petrol station unless it is a Shell station. Maybe I'm influenced with Shell's branding? You know, Shell = Ferrari? Haha!

Recently, a friend told me that his favourite petrol is Mobil. I was like, what?! His least favourite is Shell! Reason? He found that Shell petrol does not last as long as Mobil.

Now I wonder if that's really true because so far, I have not tried any other brands other than Shell. Should I start switching brand?

3. The other day I went to Suria KLCC and took this photo of the Twin Towers.

I don't know about you, but am I glad Dr M went ahead with the building of this Twin Towers. Perhaps if Dr M is still the Prime Minister of Malaysia, we would have our very own rotating tower as well! Now that would be cool!

Although Burj Dubai is now the tallest building in the world, I still prefer our very own Petronas Twin Towers. What about you?

4. Have you tried PappaRich's soya milk cendol with gula melaka? It's so yummy!! I just hope they don't raise the price with increase in the price of sugar! Actually it'll be quite ridiculous to raise the price of the drinks. Sugar price had increased by 20 sen per kg. Don't tell me they are going to increase the price by 20 sen per glass!

And have you tried PappaRich's bread with butter and kaya? They are really generous with the butter and kaya unlike OldTown! Yummy!!

5. Do you believe in feng shui? If you have read about The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, and you believe in that, then you believe in feng shui. You may not be aware, but both The Secret and feng shui talk about invisible energy that flows around us.

Although modern science is still in the dark over this invisible energy, the Secret and feng shui have already been proven to work for countless of people all over the world.

I believe in feng shui because I have already seen its effects many times. And the beautiful thing is feng shui is constantly working in your life whether or not you believe in it!

The question now is no longer a matter of beliefs, but are you doing something about it?

6. I always like to read inspiring and meaningful quotes from famous authors and people. I have a collection of some of my favourite quotes on Twitter. Check some of them out here. Hope they will help motivate you and perk up your day! Happy weekend, everyone! Don't you just love weekends? : )

A Rotating Tower in KL?

I am not an expert at architecture, but I just marvel at these architectural wonders.

Take Petronas Twin Towers for example. I've not stopped admiring this concrete skyscraper which changed the Kuala Lumpur's skyline since it was completed in 1998. It was at that time the tallest building in the world and I was so proud. I still am.

Here's a stunning photo of the Twin Towers taken from Richard Renaldi's Photography Blog.

Credit must be given to Tun Dr Mahathir for getting this project off the ground. A lot of Malaysians had criticized him for wasting money on such a lavish project but I really beg to differ. If not for him, we won't have such a prestigious landmark that is known the world over. Nowadays, tourists who come to Malaysia make sure that they have photos taken with the looming Twin Towers in the background.

Even the current tallest building in the world, Taipei 101 doesn't quite match the beauty of the Twin Towers. Don't you agree? Look at this picture of Taipei 101 taken from QuaChee's blog.

Even the upcoming Burj Dubai which is going to overtake Taipei 101 as the tallest building in the world when completed in 2009 don't quite measure up to our Twin Towers. At least that's what I think at this very moment since I have not seen the completed building yet. Below is the Burj Dubai still under construction taken from the Burj Dubai official website.

But the latest architectural wonder that left me gasping in awe must be none other than the incredible rotating tower in Dubai designed by renowned Italian architect, Dr. David Fisher. When I first heard the news, I did not believe it. A building where each floor rotates independently so that the whole building appears to be constantly changing shape must be out of this world!

This picture taken from Dr Fisher's Dynamic Architecture site shows how a rotating tower looks like in motion!

How would you like to stay in such a building? Can you imagine every hour you look out the window you see a different view of the city landscape?

Not only that. This rotating tower is environment friendly too. It is the first building in the world to generate its own electricity using wind turbines fitted between each rotating floor! Wow!

It seems that the first building to be built in Dubai will be closely followed by a second one in Moscow and a third already planned for New York.

Will Kuala Lumpur get a rotating skyscraper in the near future?
How I wish!
I guess the chances are pretty slim because firstly, the price of petrol and everything else is rising. Secondly, people are already complaining that the Government is spending unnecessarily on useless projects. Thirdly, this is not Dr M's era.
If Malaysia is still under Dr M, we may just get to have a rotating tower in KL!
