Coming to take me away?

Security Guards

Recently as you might have noticed I have been busy shooting photos of strangers. Great fun. Yesterday a woman living in Belgium reminded me that it is illegal to publish photos of others, at least according to Swedish law, (privacy protection law). So maybe these guys are coming to get me? All photographs published on the web are considered personal data and you need a permission from the subject. Unless you are a journalist/artist and your work are considered journalistic or artistic. I believe all my photos are artistic and that all daily photo blogs are journalistic. The security guards on the photo work in Handen at the mall btw.

4 Wheeler

4 wheeler

Father and daughter with matching helmets. Heading home after a visit to the grocery store at the shopping center in Västerhaninge. Lots of accidents with these 4 wheelers in Sweden lately. Just an hour after I took this photo there was a collision involving a 4 wheeler in Länna a few kilometers from here. Not so strange as that's where you can buy one! There are three different types on 4 wheelers. One for off road driving, Terrängfyrhjuling. And two that you can drive on the road, one of which you need a car driver license for Gatufyrhjuling, and one that is popular with the younger drivers, Mopedfyrhjuling. The moped version has a speed limit of 45 km/h. Do you know any teenager that would be okay with that? Not one. And if you are good with engines it's easy to adjust it. So the average speed is more like 80 km/h. That's one reason for the 5 fatal accidents this year. In total there are 30.000 4 wheelers in Sweden according to the latest statistics.

Busking

Busking

A street musician from eastern Europe (entertaining the crowds?) at the mall in Handen. Playing a tune on his accordion. We see more and more street musicians here these days. Last week I stopped and listened to a guy who was doing his best to murder a flute. He didn't get much money.

Carry Me Down

Carry Me Down

A girl deciding to carry her bike down the steep stone stairs at Poseidon's Square in Handen. Bigger photo. Probably a smart move. There is a bike path that she could have taken. It's also steep and it is circling around the Cultural Center. And you pass a rune stone on your way down. I spent half an hour or so on a grassy lawn at the square eating fruit that I bought at a fruit stand, and decided to stake out the place for some good Everyday People photos.

Black & White (with a touch of red)

Black & White

Over the last couple of days I have been taking a lot of photos of Everyday People. Bigger photo. It's great fun. The trick is to shoot without them noticing, which can be difficult today when we all have a camera at hand. I have been staking out two places. The commuter station in Västerhaninge and Poseidon's Square in Handen. On nearly all the photos I have taken there's at least one small detail to discover that you don't see the first time. On this picture of a good looking woman walking at a brisk pace crossing Poseidon's Square it was her red wristband.

Ruff!

Ruff!

I'm guessing you don't have any Roundabout Dogs where you live! Bigger photo. It all started in the city of Linköping last year when an installation by the artist Stina Opitz was vandalized. A few days later a new dog appeared in the roundabout. That was all it took to get this new phenomenon going! Since then they have started popping up all over the country. This one can be seen in Handen. My fourth Rondellhund.

Preying Mantis nymph

The view from my finger

One of the best things with my little Canon Ixus is the macro function. I took this cool shot of a preying mantis nymph while sitting on the bench outside one summer evening, reading a book and looking at the newly painted house. I posted this photo in a few flickr groups and within a couple of days it had more than 4000 views!

Original size.

Horse Farm

For Sale

Do you like horses? Bigger photo. Don't mind living in a forest with nature and a little lake as the next door neighbour? Well this is your lucky day. I took a bike ride through a few places like that the other day. This is Dåntorps Hästgård (horse farm), in Dåntorp. Close to lake Öran at Riddartorp. Havent been to the lake for years. Many new houses in this area over the last years. A good place if you like horses and don't mind the gravel road. You enter Dåntorp from a small road at the Jordbro industrial area or, like I did from Lida, between Tungelsta and Västerhaninge.

Golf Babes

Getting a grip

There are 9 million Swedes. 500.000 of those can be seen and heard (Foooore!), on the 500 golf courses around the country this time of the year. Golf has become one of the biggest sports here over the last 20 years. With the help of Annika Sörenstam, Jesper Parnevik, Henrik Stenson and all the other Swedish golf pros. In Haninge you can choose from quite a few good courses. This is Fors golf club in Västerhaninge.

A Lakeside View

A Lakeside view

A couple of days ago I took a bike ride around Lower Lake Rudan in Handen. It was a beautiful day. Early afternoon, and I didn't meet that many people. Normally this time of the year the place is crowded, but as it was raining earlier in the day only a few anglers could be seen on the rocks. I have shown you photos from this lake before. Very popular recreational area with different path through the forest. Mountain bike trails, a beach and much more.

Road Construction

Road Construction

Road 73 at Stav just outside of Tungelsta. With only two lanes. There's heavy traffic on this road to and from the ferry port at Nynäshamn. The road sees many trucks coming from the ferrys from Gdansk (Poland), and Ventspils (Latvia), and also tourists heading to and from Gotland. In the background they are working on the new road that will have four lanes. It will be finished in a couple of years time. Hopefully the number of deaths will go down then. This part of Road 73 has a very bad accident record to say the least.

A view through the trees

Looking through the trees...

A small house along Tungelstavägen in Tungelsta, Haninge. Bigger photo. Shot from the bike path.
07_07_07. That's the name of a flickr set I created today. There's also a flickr group. With 7777 members. People from all over the world will add their seven photos the the pool during the next week. The weather wasnt that good so I only went for a 12 km ride today.

At the convenience store

Gålö Lanthandel

The place to stop to buy a salad like I did (a bit pricey at 40SEK), and something to drink if you are out on a bike ride (like I was), before heading out to Gålö, (which I did). Bigger photo. There's a restaurant just to the right if you want a proper meal. If you continue on the Dalarö road, Dalarö is only 10 km away. If you do continue to Gålö you better come prepared because there are no other store to shop in.

Mercedes-Benz 190SL

Goodbye and thanks for the photos

I was eating pancakes on the veranda when this 1957 Mercedes-Benz 190SL drove up the road and parked outside one of the greenhouses at Blomorado. Bigger photo. The owners had their leather helmets on, and I knew it was time for a photo shoot. The driver told me that he was always working on the car, and only took it out from the garage during the summer month. I took ten photos and if you're interested you can see them as a slideshow here.

Blueberry Pie

I took a walk in a forest yesterday. The first thing I saw was Bambi. At Stav, close to where they are building the new Road 73. Decided to take some photos of the road construction. Turning back I took a shortcut and stumbled upon some blueberries. I filled a water bottle with berries and headed for home! Where I made this pie.

A modern circus act

Looking for free Internet access

Circus Wictoria

The Wictoria Circus is back in Tungelsta again. I could see and hear the trucks from my bedroom window when they arrived last night. The particular circus act on this photo is called How to find any unprotected wireless networks while going for a walk. It can be performed one-handed, without any protection. Shot these photos on an early morning walk. The rest of the circus crew were busy raising the big tent. Wictoria tours the northern part of Europe every year. These days horses are pretty much the only animals allowed on a circus. Years ago when they had elephants the circus asked us (my father to be exact), if it was ok to set up a fence on our land and have the animals there for the day which we allowed them to.

Summer Thoughts

Summer Thoughts

Is this it. Is this my holiday. No hanging out with my friends. Will I spend my vacation in this rowing boat, staring down at the water. Hour after hour? Bigger photo.

At least that is my interpretation of what this young girl is thinking. From my resent visit to Gålö, a nature reserve and popular recreational area in Haninge. This is Finkarudd. There's a marina, a camping, a restaurant and lots of nature. What more do you need to relax?

Two men and a dog

Two men and a dog

On a wooden boat. Heading for a marina at Finkarudd on Gålö. Bigger photo. If you follow the link below it's the marina at the top of the photo. Gålö is great place for a summer vacation. The Peninsula is a nature reserve in Haninge with lots of beaches. Tourists come here to fish or take long walks among the many oaks in the beautiful landscape. There's an old farm at Stegsholm that dates back a couple of hundred years. It was bought 200 years ago by Prince Carl who later became Charles XV of Sweden. People have been living at Gålö since the Viking era. There are lots of remains from that time including a few hill forts. More recently in 1719 the Russians attacked this area and not far from here there's a graveyard with buried russian soldiers.

Nearly Finished

We are having the house repainted. It looks like it will be finished tonight. All that is left for Sławek and Edek to do is to put up the new veranda roof and paint the wall under the ladders. It has started to rain and we can hear thunder not that far away...This is three photos stitched with Autostitch.

Spooky House

This house always gives me the creeps. Creepier size. I think I have a pretty good imagination. If I ever decide to write a crime novel, this is where all the bad stuff will happen. You will find it on Södertäljevägen, that's my street, but luckily a few kilometers down the road, towards the city of Södertälje.

Posing for the photographer

This common toad (Bufo bufo), accompanied me on the stairs for a while. After posing for a few photos it scared off the cat, checked out the water supply and then decided to hide under the veranda. Try the original size if you don't suffer from Bufonophobia!

Just a few minutes too late...

Just a few minutes too late...

I was going to have a look at the traditional Midsummer celebrations at Brandbergen in Handen. Bigger photo. 50% of the people that live in Brandbergen are immigrants so I figured it would be a change from the one in Tungelsta. I do own a wrist watch, but that didnt do me any good today as I arrived just when all the dancing was over. So all I could to was take a few quick snaps of people taking photos of each other and the Midsommarstång or Maypole. There is a dance here (in the yellow building), but that doesnt get under way until tonight. So if you wanna see some Midsommar photos try that flickr tag.

Roofing Around

Grinding Away

My great grandparents (on dad's side of the family) built the house some ninety five years ago. Bigger photo. Back then it was red. These days it's yellow. It's been that color for many years. With a red roof. A few years ago we had the house painted with a slightly different yellow. And the roof painted black. Now it's time to grind and paint again. Starting with the roof. Here you see two workers, Edek and Slawek (both from poland), normally they work at Blomorado but sometimes they get to other tasks as well.

Life in the Green Lane

Life in the Green Lane

Roe Deer in the middle of a field at Nedersta. Bigger photo. Couldnt get any closer, it was checking my every move. They live in a forest nearby and I often see them here. They sometimes visit my back garden. Last winter, looking for food they were on my veranda, looking in at me in the living room!

Fluffy Bird

Fluffy Bird

There was a drama at the veranda the other day. Bigger photo. The neighbours cat, Tindra that has moved in where I live, managed to catch, kill and eat one of the juvenile birds, a Great tit. She later caught another one, a Blue tit, but with a little help from me that bird survived. Tindra had to spend the next couple of hours indoors. Now life has returned to normal at the veranda.Which means that all the birds, minus one are back.

Smultron

Smultron

Smultron. That's what we call the wild strawberries over here. Bigger photo. Bergman made a movie called Smultronstället. The meaning for that is that the sweet things in life grow wild. And if you find these berries don't tell anyone where they grow. It will be your secret, your Smultronställe. I know where to look for these. So just after I found them I ate them with my filmjölk for breakfast. Whenever that happens it means that summer is here for real. And here is a link to per spective!

Madonna could probably wear this. Bigger photo. From the 2007 Art Promenade at the gallery garden in Österhaninge. Feed Me! Feed Me! Feed Me!

Feed Me, Feed Me, Feed Me!

There's often birds at my veranda. My favorite is the woodpecker. And a blue tit that has been in a fight. The different birds often fight for position at the bird feeders. The woodpecker always wins. Over the last few days this juvenile great tit has been flying in with it's mother. It sure can scream if and when the food doesnt arrive on time! Probably best at the original size.

Summer at the old farm

I took a walk along the stream a few days ago. Bigger photo. Wanted to get another shot of the rapeseed field in full bloom. This is the 700 year old farm at Nedersta. This year, students from the nearby Fredrika Bremer high school has been invited to take part in the 2007 Art Promenade. Bigger photo. The theme this year is Freedom. This is how Gunnar Stahre interprets that. The red building in the background once was a church school. It was destroyed in a fire back in 1993, but was soon rebuilt. Today a private home. The promenade is open all summer and all the artwork can be found in the garden here at the gallery.

Life at the beach

Beach Babe

The weather has been amazing over the last week. Bigger photo. If you know me that means a few bike rides down to the beach at Årsta Havsbad. On this visit I arrived early and there wasnt that many people around. The water was warm, probably 18C. I don't have a water proof camera but I walked out into the ocean to shoot a panoramic view from the water. Havent finished that photo yet, so instead I give you this beach babe. We talked about the fact that the great weather will be gone in a day. Expecting thunder and lightning, for the next couple of days. But you never know...

The Gallery

Art Gallery

Every summer the artists at the gallery in Österhaninge, Galleri Kyrkskolan, organizes an Art Promenade. The gallery is situated in a rural area, the next door neighbour is the old church and church school. I visited on the hottest day (so far) of the year. I was the only one visiting, and I had a chance to talk to one of the artists. The last couple of years the art promenade really was a promenade, you had to walk a few km's to see everything. This year the theme was Freedom and all objects are within a few minutes walk from the gallery. I will post a few objects from this year over the next week. If you would like to see the 2005 and 2006 promenade you can, here.

Summer Driving

Summer Driving

This is a 1964 Amazon. Volvo never made a convertible from the Amazon so Gerry customized it back in 1990. It has been featured in a swedish magazine, Bilsport a few years ago. He only drives it in the summer time of course. I passed by his garage as he was leaving and stopped and asked if I could take a few photos. He gladly approved and as the car lover he is, then told me everything about it and if I hadnt stopped him he would still be talking...

The Path (June 5th)

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Combined with a brisk walk through the forest at Håga it will also keep you fit, and in a good mood, as proven here with a woman out on a summer promenade. Bigger photo.

Water Tower + Art Thingy

Water Tower + A 2-row plow.

The old water tower at Berga Agricultural College. There's a castle down by the bay with a bigger water tower designed by a famous architect called Torben Grut. It is possible that he made this one as well, but I'm only guessing. What the art thingy is I have no idea, but I like the look of it. From my visit to the open-house weekend at the agricultural college at Berga.

Berga Mansion

Berga Mansion

The mansion at Berga is around 300 years old. Today it's part of the college, and I believe that a few of the former principals used to live here. The college opened in 1922. The college founder Helge Axelson Johnson, also built himself a castle down by the bay, these days the military owns that land. I don't have photo of the castle but it looks like this:

Sheep Shearer

Sheep shearing

Bigger photo.

A sheep shearer in action. Every year in the early summer the Agricultural College at Berga in Haninge has an open-house weekend. As a kid I used to come here with my parents. As it was a warm and sunny day I took the bike over to Berga on Saturday. The place was absolutely crowded. Long queues for everything that you could eat, but as I had anticipated that, (visited just after breakfast), I had a great time looking at all the animals, pigs, cows, horses and more. Also saw lots of tractors, farming equipment, machines and farming buildings. Then I cooled off with a visit to the museum. The farm here dates back over 800 years. The college is not that old, it opened in 1922. Many students live here year round. There's a castle down by the bay built by Helge Axelson Johnson. Today the military owns that part of the estate. I will be uploading a few photos from my visit over the next day. You can see them HERE. Did I buy anything? As a matter of fact I did. One big jar of cloudberry jam, so I will be eating a lot of waffles now...

A little too close to the railway line

Here comes the train

I took this photo to show you how close to the railway line Nynäsbanan, this new house at Nederstavägen in Lida is being built. The train is the old commuter, arriving at the Krigslida station. Next stop a km down the line, is Tungelsta. The line is 100 years old and in a few years time there will be another track built here. Could be time to put up a fence if the happy home owners have kids?

Summer Landscape Me

Rural Landscape Me

I live in a rural area of Haninge. It has changed much over the last years, but there are still a few farmers left. Here you see me at the rapeseed field at Nedersta. The field was shining bright yellow with a scent to match. I stopped to photograph two pheasants, but they ran off, so I took this self portrait instead. Just before that I stopped at a horse pasture.

Bigger photo.
