Free apples!
Easy to get some free apples this time of the year. Cycling home a while back, I stopped at a property along Gamla Dalarövägen in Handen where there were at least ten paper bags with free apples. A note said feel free to take a bag. So that is what I did. I made a salad with apples and carrots with dinner that evening, and then yesterday I made this Apple Crumb Pie after my brother gave me a recipe, sadly for him he flew to Cyprus on Sunday morning, so no pie for him!

Reflections
Out walking along Kungsholms strand on Kungsholmen, taking a few reflection photos. In the top photo you can see a building at Blekholmsterrassen. That one was easy. The second photo shows two Bonnier buildings at Torsgatan. That one was tricky. It is six photos stitched together. I tried three different softwares for the stitching, before being happy with the result.

Around Fridhemsplan
Earlier in the week I parked the bike at Fridhemsplan on Kungsholmen in Stockholm and went for a walk. Taking photos of shops, restaurants, shoppig mall windows and people. There are two photos where you can spot some graffiti, that is part of the ninety-meter long mural that I showed you back in the Summer.

Andréemonumentet
From one of my many visits this past Summer to the cemetery Norra begravningsplatsen in Solna. This is a monument to a balloon expedition that ended in tragedy. You can read up on it here. Oh, and I spotted Bea Uusma out shopping at Götgatsbacken just two days ago. She is a doctor, and author, who wrote the book about this expedition.

Stentroll 2024
This was a bit different. A stone lifting contest at Tantolunden. The stones weighed from 75 kilos, up to over 105 I think. You had to lift all four, but during my stay no one was able to do that. There were a few close calls and a some spectators were upset when one guy missed by a few hundreds of a second. There were more moments to the contest, one where you had to lift up a stone and walk with it, but I missed that as I only stayed for 20 minutes. Still, fun to watch.

That Old Tree
I am nine days behind with the photo editing, but here is the last photo I took yesterday. Nice with the red berries on the old tree.

The conversation
Out strolling along Surbrunnsgatan. A woman, in her eighties, is sitting on a chair outside her flat. Sees the camera. Asks if I would like to take a photo of a mural. Oh, you mean the jungle, I respond. Oh, no, that one is over there, she says, and points down the crossing street. This one is just down my street, you can't miss it. It shows the house where Artur Hazelius grew up. You know, the man that founded Skansen. The house is long gone today, moved to Skansen, actually, so if you would like to see it go there. I pat her on the shoulder and says thank you, before walking down the street for a look at the mural. A young couple smiles as they walk into the parking garage when they see me lining up for the photo, probably used to see photographers doing just that. After taking my photo I wave to the woman and she smiles and gives me a nod. The mural was made by the artist Frida Hård af Segerstad.

Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde
A Summer visit to a sculpture museum at Royal Djurgården. Or at least a walk through the garden, looking at the many sculptures. Made by some of the best known sculptors at the time. Including Milles and Eldh. All the artwork here were bought by the Prince. Many years ago Prince Eugen, himself a painter and artist who got some of his art education in Paris, visited a friend at Waldemarsudde. He liked the area, so he bought a property and then had Sweden's best known architect at the time design a house for him. He also had an English garden built. After his death, the property was made into a museum. It is a very beautiful place. It sees a lot of visitors. The Prince is buried down by the water. There are two greenhouses here and all the flowers in the garden comes from there. The mill dates back to 1784. The blades were removed around 1880 which was fifty years after they stopped producing linseed oil here. There are paintings of the mill made by the Prince, where you can see that the blades were broken. The mill is in perfect working order, though.

Henrik Koelman
Henrik Koelman was diagnosed with ALS last year. He passed away last month. Henrik was a childhood friend of my brother. He worked in TV and media for nearly thirty years as a sound technician. With programmes like Lilla sportspegeln, Lyxfällan, Här är ditt kylskåp, Kjelles smakresa, Svenska Truckers, Farmen, Agenterna på SVT, Idol, Talang and The Eurovision Song Contest to name a few. My brother bought this necklace, made in memory of Henrik. The proceeds will be donated to The Börje Salming Foundation.

Sebastian Koch/ Standing Man
This is a little odd. This is a sculpture at Liljevalch's Art Gallery at Djurgården. Depicting the German actor Sebastian Koch. Sure, he is a great actor. I especially remember him from the movie The Life of Others. But how he ended up as a sculpture in Stockholm I do not know. Originally made by the British artist Sean Henry.
