CLUJ, Romania. Teatrul Național. Postcard

CLUJ
Teatrul Național / National Theatre

Postcard published by Editura Meridiane, Nº 1527.

In 1874, on the site where the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj (near the Central Park, on the bank of the river Someș), the town’s summer theatre building was inaugurated. Initially, it was made from wood and had no central heating, as it was meant for use, as its name suggested, only during summer. The Hungarian film director, screenwriter and actor Jenő Janovics rebuilt it in an art nouveau style with his own resources, using brick instead of wood, and it was inaugurated in December 1910. In 1946, the communist authorities renamed the building National Theater.

Ferry "TRILLIUM", Ontario, Canada. Postage stamp (2023)

Ferry TRILLIUM
Toronto, Ontario

Stamp issued by Canadian post on 12.07.2023.

Trillium is a side wheeler ferry operated by the City of Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation. The ship was built in 1910 by Polson Iron Works and initially operated by the Toronto Ferry Company. She was launched on June 18, 1910, and entered service on July 1, 1910. Trillium was retired in 1957 and sold to the Toronto Works Department, which intended to use it to carry sewage sludge from the new Humber Sewage Treatment Plant. It was left to sink in a lagoon in the Toronto Islands, along with her sister vessel Bluebell. In the sixties, there was renewed interest in the Trillium. First, in 1964, it was proposed to display the Trillium along with other historic boats at the Toronto Maritime Museum but the proposal failed. In 1965, it was then proposed to return the boat to service. Metro Toronto approved her restoration in 1973. The ship returned to Toronto Harbour in November 1975. She was returned to service on July 1, 1976. In 2017, Trillium was refurbished.

RMS "Olympic" (collectable card)

RMS "Olympic" drawn by Edgar Pullin. Collectible card by Amalgamated Tobacco Corporation (South Africa) Ltd., Johannesburg, 'Famous British Ships', series Nº 1, 24.
[RMS "Olympic" was an ocean liner built by Harland and Wolff, in Belfast (North Ireland), for the White Star Line, which also included Titanic and Britannic. Unlike her sisters, Olympic served a long and illustrious career (1911 to 1935). For a short time she was the largest ocean liner in the world. Was launched 20 October 1910, her maiden voyage commenced on 14 June 1911. "Olympic"'s first major mishap occurred on 20 September 1911, when she collided with a British warship, HMS "Hawke" off the Isle of Wight. Although the incident resulted in the flooding of two of her compartments and a twisted propeller shaft, "Olympic" was able to return to Southampton under her own power. Afer other incidents, during the war "Olympic" is reported to have carried up to 201,000 troops and other personnel, burning 347,000 tons of coal and travelling about 184,000 miles. Her impressive World War I service earned her the nickname "Old Reliable". In August 1919 Olympic returned to Belfast for restoration to civilian service. At the turn of 1927-28, Olympic was converted to carry tourist third cabin passengers as well as first, second and third class. Tourist third cabin was an attempt to attract travellers who desired comfort without the accompanying high ticket price. New public rooms were constructed for this class, although tourist third cabin and second class would merge to become 'tourist' by late 1931. "Olympic" was withdrawn from service in 1935 and sold to be partially demolished at Jarrow, providing work for the region. In 1937, Olympic was towed to Inverkeithing to T.W. Ward's yard for final demolition.]

GOSPORT AND FAREHAM OMNIBUS COMPANY (England). Bus ticket

GOSPORT AND FAREHAM OMNIBUS COMPANY (England). Bus Bell Punch ticket Nº E 1919. 1½d.
[The company originated in 1878 when a bill to develop the Gosport Street Tramways, a subsidiary of the Provincial Tramways Company Ltd was promoted. No results were evident until 17th July 1882 when 8 horse cars ran a 7½-minute headway route from Gosport Beach (now the ferry) via Elson Road to Brockhurst. This was one of the many Provincial Tramway systems in Portsmouth, Cleethorpes, Devonport and Cardiff. A bill to change the Companies legal name to Gosport and Fareham Tramways was proposed in 1906, but not proceeded with. It was however, duly adopted as the fleet name. A bus service form Bury Cross to Lee-on-Solent was opened up by the tramway company in 1910 and later extended to run from Brockhurst to Lee-on-Solent. The 1914-18 war terminated bus operations and in the early post war years a large number of one-bus operators appeared in the Gosport and Lee areas and through the 1920s competition with the trams grew fierce. In 1929 the Bury Cross route was converted to motor buses and the Fareham route cut back to Ann's Hill. The last trams ran on 31st December 1929 and the company changed its name to the Gosport and Fareham Omnibus Company. Seven tramcars went to nearby subsidiary of Provincial Tramways, the Portsdown and Horndean Railway, which continued until acquired by Southdown in 1935. The intensive network of services radiating from the Ferry, Haslar, Elson, Fareham Railway station and West End Estate, and a number of circular routes in Gosport were built up before the Second World War. The Company was hard pressed during the war due to the many service establishments in its area of operation; at the time of D-Day, even the veteran Leyland's saw service. Since the war the large Bridgemary estate has been served, and open toppers popularised the Stokes Bay route. One-man vehicles were introduced after 1953 on four lightly patronised routes. With nationalisation imminent, the private hire department was detached in 1947 to the parent company, Provincial Traction Company. Since 1936 the company had been the sole survivor of the once large Provincial system. In March 1969 the parent company Provincial Traction Company Limited (so renamed in 1936) was taken over by the Wiles Group and from 20th May 1969, this group was renamed the Swain Group.]

[The Molli (German: Mecklenburgische Bäderbahn "Molli"; short: MBB) is a narrow-gauge steam-powered railway in Mecklenburg, running on 900 mm gauge track. It operates between Bad Doberan, Heiligendamm and Kühlungsborn West over a total distance of 15.4 km with a running time of 40 minutes. Within Bad Doberan the line runs through the street, and later along a linden tree-lined avenue. Between Heiligendamm and Kühlungsborn the tracks run parallel to the Baltic Sea beach across fields. The line between Bad Doberan and the seaside resort of Heiligendamm was opened on 9 July 1886, built and operated by the railway enterprise Lenz & Co. in Stettin (today Szczecin, Poland). On 1 March 1890 the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin took over the line and integrated it into the Grand-Ducal Mecklenburgian Friedrich Franz railway. The extension of the line to the Baltic Sea resort of Kühlingsborn, which was still called Arendsee at that time, took place on 12 May 1910. Starting from 1920 the line was operated by the Deutsche Reichsbahn (German Imperial Railway). In 1995 an operator company, consisting of the district of Bad Doberan as well as the towns of Kühlungsborn and Bad Doberan, took over the enterprise. Today the consortium calls itself the Mecklenburgische Bäderbahn Molli GmbH & Co. KG in Bad Doberan. The railway terminal at Kühlingsborn West houses the Molli-Museum. This railway company is not to be confused with the Mecklenburgische Bäderbahn AG, which opened the Rövershagen Kleinbf - Graal-Müritz line on 1 July 1925, running it until 1949 when the East German Deutsche Reichsbahn took over the enterprise.]
