The Commodore

Image
As most know, Decatur is named after Commodore Stephen Decatur, a naval hero noted for his many victories in the early 1800's. Here's a collection of various photos related to "The Commodore":   The Commodore's statue in Decatur, now located just south of the Decatur Civic Center, originally located on the grounds of the Millkin Homestead: the statue was originally located on the grounds of the Millikin Homestead photo taken PRIOR to the removal of the columns and landscaping In 2013, a new mural was painted in downtown Decatur featuring Commodore Decatur. View picture of that mural HERE . 3 other historical Stephen Decatur items (THESE ARE NOT IN DECATUR): John Biedler is a Decatur resident who portrays Commodore Decatur at various events, including the Decatur Celebration.  Several years ago, he participated in a photo shoot that featured "The Commodore" at several Decatur locations.  Enjoy these.....
