Fine Arts Friday: Parshat VaEra Edition

Israelis were divided into two groups today: those who were privileged to have snow in their own backyards and those who were forced to brave the icy roads in order to get their winter wonderland fix.

Although security considerations (ah, the travails of semi-anonymous blogging… ;-)) prevent me from telling you if we belong to the first or the second group, the halachot of snow day blogging apparently require me to share a picture of the Shiputzim kids’ snowy masterpiece:

And speaking of the Shiputzim kids and their handiwork…

About a month or two ago, ACSK (=a certain Shiputzim kid) had to do a project for school about one of the Ten Plagues and chose Makat Dam (the Plague of Blood).

Seeing as we will IY”H be reading Parshat VaEra this coming Shabbat, I figured that it would be appropriate to post the final result:

IMG_8416As always, feel free to click on the picture for a much better view.

In addition, here are a few close-ups of some of the details:

IMG_8409An Egyptian is upset, because his cup of water has turned to blood.

IMG_8412The well on the Goshen side has clear, sweet water.

IMG_8403An Egyptian has to buy water from a Jewish man.

Special thanks to ACSK’s older siblings for all their help.

Post #44 - In which we give a lame excuse for not posting earlier

Goooooddddd eeeevennnninggggg, Our Shiputzim fans!

As our most devoted readers are well-aware, we didn't post all day today. However, it really wasn't our fault. The dog ate our homework. The roof guy didn't come until late this afternoon and then didn't stay for too long.

Here are several roof views - are you paying attention, YAT? - which, hopefully, will make you all feel somewhat better:

View #1:

Since the above picture was taken, the scaffolding was removed, as evidenced here in View #2:

And View #3:

And, while we're at it, an attic view as well:

Meanwhile, the kablan worked on the hole:

Finally, since yesterday's post included a picture of the shower hook, we figured we might as well show you the hook in action:

Wasn't that just FAAAAAscinating?! :-)
And on that note, we wish y'all a good night from the entire Our Shiputzim staff.

Forecast: Showers

The kablan installed the hook for the shower:

And here's a wider view:

Meanwhile, the attic is basically closed up on the sides.
Here's one side:

And via the hole:

Here's the other side:

And from closer:

I realize that technically these aren't roof views, but for now, all you roof view fans will just have to make do. Sorry, but zeh mah she'yaysh.
Good night to all (including YAT) from the Our Shiputzim staff.

Don't look now but there's some wood on our house

B"H the roof is coming along. Here are two more pictures for your viewing pleasure:

And:

Here's what the roof looked like via the hole (and the screen) earlier today:

Since then, the kablan covered up the hole:

In other news, the kablan scraped most of the cement off the bathtub and put the drains two inspection points down on the bathroom floor:

Finally, here's a picture of the inside of the cabinet that goes under the sink. (They put the handles inside to protect them.)

A trip to the "City in Growing Process" (sic)

This morning, YZG and I went to the "City in Growing Process" [sic].

(Question for our readers: Does anyone know if it's still called that? It's been a very long time since we drove that way.)

We went to the tile/bathroom fixture place to get the bathroom sink. We ended up getting the model that the kablan had suggested, but we wanted to be able to pick out the color ourselves. It comes with a cabinet below and a mirror (but not a medicine cabinet) above. Here's a black and white picture. (The color is "kafeh". B"N, we'll try and take a colored picture later.)

Meanwhile, the kablan made some more progress on the door frames:

He also brought the shower bathtub faucet with him:

But the big news is that the roof guys started working this morning. Here are two pictures from a short while ago:

And:

More exciting stuff to come....

These are the people in your neighborhood...

As previously noted, the kablan lives two doors away from us. In addition, the plumber lives across the street. He's fixed our dude once or twice over the years and will be the one to raise it on to the roof. Meanwhile, he was also here today, working in the bathroom and getting everything set up.
Here's where the toilet will be:

And here's the berez perach:

And here's the bathtub all emptied out:

All clear

Everyone spent the day working hard emptying out the upstairs.
Here's what it looks like now:
This is the playroom. The stairs will be along the left wall.

Here's the bathroom:

And, last but not least, the bathtub (and no, we don't know what we'll be doing with the hamsters.... :-) )
