Josef Istler - Between Surrealism and Abstract Paintings


Painter and graphic artist, Josef Istler (1919–2000), was a member of the Ra group and collaborated with the international grouping Cobra and did much to establish art informel on the Czech art scene.  Works of an art informel nature with roots in surrealist expression to abstract linear compositions and figurative work.
Josef Istler has had several gallery and museum exhibitions, including at the Museum Kampa, The Jan and Meda Mládek Foundation. Many works by the artist have been sold at auction, including ‘Swamp’ sold at Art Consulting Prague ‘Post-War & Contemporary Art Evening Sale’ in 2016

Josef Istler

Josef Istler was a Czech visual artist who was born in 1919. Josef Istler has had several gallery and museum exhibitions, including at the Museum Kampa, The Jan and Meda Mládek Foundation. Many works by the artist have been sold at auction, including 'Swamp' sold at Art Consulting Prague 'Post-War & Contemporary Art Evening Sale' in 2016 for $60,783. The artist died in 2000.
