Amelia Amorim Toledo - Brazilian Contemporary Art

Amelia Amorim Toledo (1926 - 2017) was a Brazilian sculptor, painter, draftsman, and designer. With a career that expanded over fifty years, Toledo explored multiple artistic languages, techniques, materials, and production methods. She is considered to be one of the pioneers of Brazilian contemporary art

During the 1960s, she studied metal engraving with João Luís Chaves, and started experimenting with two and three-dimensional sculptural works, using both natural and industrial materials.

Since that period, Toledo participated in five different São Paulo Biennials. She has created public artworks for the cities of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, and has works in important private and public collections in Brazil.Wikipedia

Amilcar Augusto de Castro - Brazilian Art

Amílcar Augusto Pereira de Castro (6 June 1920 – 21 November 2002) was a Brazilian artist, sculptor and graphic designer.
Starting his career as a graphic designer, de Castro revolutionized the design of Brazilian newspapers in the 1950s, notably Jornal do Brasil.
From the 1960s he focused on sculpture and – alongside Lygia Clark, Ligia Pape and Helio Oiticica – was one of the leading figures of the Brazilian neo-constructivist movement.De Castro is particularly famous for large, bold simple iron forms nearly always characterized by a design based on "one cut, one fold."His method can be linked both to his earlier work with graphic design and paper, and to the mining heritage of his home state of Minas Gerais.De Castro did not just produce steel sculptures, he also used wood, marble and glass. Reflecting his training under Alberto de Guignard and his work as a graphic designer, he also produced thousands of graphic works, drawings prints and large scale paintings, as well as objects and jewelry.Wikipedia

Manabu Mabe - abstract painting

Manabu Mabe (September 14, 1924 – September 22, 1997) was a Japanese-Brazilian painter. Mabe worked as a vendor of hand-painted ties in São Paulo before becoming a famous artist..In the late 1950s, Mabe won the top award in São Paulo's Contemporary Art Salon, the top award as Brazil's best painter in the São Paulo Bienal, and the top honors for artists under 35 at Paris's first biennial.
On January 30, 1979, after an exhibition in Tokyo, 153 of his paintings were on board a Varig cargo Boeing 707-323C en route from Tokyo - Narita to Rio de Janeiro-Galeão via Los Angeles. The aircraft went missing over the Pacific Ocean some 30 minutes (200 km ENE) from Tokyo. The cause is unknown since the wreck was never found. The paintings were lost.Mabe died in São Paulo on September 22, 1997.Wikipedia
