Plastic titans are coming soon!

As all we know, crowd-funding is recently a hot topic in hobby-related business. Thus, I want to drag your attention to one of the most interesting projects up to date, IMO. DreamForge-Games is known from their massive resin kits, Leviathans, which by size and form correspond quite well to Forge World Warhammer 40000 titans.

There are, however, two main problems related directly to the size and construction material (resin), namely, price and limited availability. At ~350 USD (+s&h) these model are not easily affordable for average miniature collector. So, they found elegant solution for both issues by moving the model to plastic! From their Kickstarter project description:

"The Leviathan Crusader has made it to the pre-production phase (mold draft and parting line establishment for metal tooling) and is ready to become a plastic injected model kit. Not Resin, not Restic, not some soft plastic hybrid, but injected high impact polystyrene."

"Pledge $89 or more. Ready for Serious Stompin! - An 8 ½ tall plastic model kit of the Leviathan Crusader. That’s ¼ the price of a resin kit and made of injected plastic."

What can I say, at this price it is really exciting offer (IMO), and even with international shipping cost, it's still something I may consider to buy.

Moreover, they are going to produce plastic version of their Stormtroopers. At the moment they got much less supporters than Leviathan, but in a long run they may establish a base for a larger range of miniatures based on some original fluff/universe.

At the moment, this campaign got  more than 120% of the initially requested funding and still has 20 days to go! So the plastic titans are reality now. I looking for GW/Forge World response to this challenge (and not by issuing more lawsuits against independent companies).

Do anybody knows something about the content of new large boxes scheduled for release on November, 28th? (Updated below, 21-10-09)
I've seen only this info:

Tyranid Gargantuan Creature in resin

Another alternative resin monster for my Tyranids.
I'm little in hurry, preparing my talk for a photochemistry conference. So, just to be in touch with you folks, I want to show few photos of my new Trygon's head. As in previous posts, this is Troll Forged miniature sculpted by Hive Trygon, who seems to be spiritus movens of this company.

There are few broken teeth in overseas transport, but this can be fixed easily.

As for me, very nice details. Below, a comparison with Carnifex body and head.

Full creature, next time. Excuse me for just a teaser...

Scorpion of Nurgle - initial project

Once upon a time, when dinosaurs walked on the Earth, I decide to convert my Defiler using scorpion-like design. At that time the idea was not so overused and maybe even fresh. It spend some time in my head, then notebook and finally in my cabinet as some WIP. But suddenly Apocalypse came and everybody started those over-sized Brass Scorpion warmachines. So, I had no choice. As a typical man, I believe that bigger is better... Finally, I found some parts which can make my project stand out from the crowd.

Above are new legs of my monster. These 4 are the unique in shape, but I have 2 more to make it hexa-ped. Notice the size comparison with std Defiler leg - I believe this brings a good chance to make him impressive.

Some closer inspection shows that the cast quality is rather average but the amount of details is more than sufficient - in total, a perfect mix for Nurgle creation.

Here are the body components which I'm going to use. Notice the already extended hull section in the center.

Finally, two bitz which I maybe use, but without clear idea at the moment.

In general, as to grab any standard GW part is not a big problem, I have to spend few more moments to plan this walker before going further. Should I use WFB Giant body with this Soulgrinder head? Maybe actual SG body would be better? I thought about putting some non-GW nurglesque big demon body over the main hull (like the one from Scibor or Troll Forged Miniatures) but it will increase the costs too much. So, maybe I should wait for new plastic generic Deamon Prince? The Nurgle GW DP cannot be used because is heavy (metal) and already included in this force. Do you have any other cool ideas?

UPDATE: I forgot to tell that these legs are from Ramshackle Games. sorry

New big stuff for Apocalypse Revolutions

Yesterday (01/04/2009) new teaser picture for upcoming Apocalypse: Revolutions appeared on the Web.

Thunderbolt Heavy Fighter, well known from ForgeWorld resin version, and now all in plastic, is scheduled for release in the next year spring. According to the sources everything is ready right now, but due to the current economical recession has been moved down in the queue. This seems to be true as they already showed this box cover picture.
