Jungle fighters everywhere!

Seems, the spring is upon us in Europe, and various jungle fighter squads left their winter dens... (No, I am not joking from Ukrainian problems with Putin and his company - they are too serious, and too sad for this).
.

Now, I'm waiting for Kromlech...They already made a kind of attempt into this topic...

Then ,  there are these Victoria Miniatures squads, and you will decide if they fit the theme, or not...

P.S. Let me know, if there are some other non-obvious options, which I overlooked...

And Now for Something Completely Different

Gentlemen, don't be too serious...but even in a grimdark future do not forget your umbrella!

Sexy legs competition (by IG standards...)

Today, I have short comparison of 3 sets of 28 mm guardsmen legs. They all sport autumn/winter outfit, i.e. greatcoats.

1) Maxmini.eu - set of 6 metal legs costs 7 euros (~9.7 USD). Very good detail and cast quality, although the material (white metal) makes them looking less attractive in the photo. Don't be fooled, upon painting they will be not worse then resin bits. One complaint, they have only 3 unique poses.

2) Blight Wheel Miniatures - set of 5 resin legs costs 8 euros (~11.1 USD). Again very good detail and quality. Resin material makes them more pleasant to work with, and all bits are unique pose. They are also the most expensive to purchase, with only five pieces per set.

3) Mad Robot Miniatures - set of 5 standing resin legs or 6 kneeling ones, each for 8 USD (~5.8 euros). Quality of the cast is the same good like both competitors, however detail is slightly worse, IMO. But this set has its own advantages. They are 7 unique poses in total, at the lowest price and in easy to process resin material.

So, finally, direct comparison of three sets:

I am happy with all of them. Even if some cheap plastic alternatives are in fact easily available since few years (like Wargames Factory troopers below)...

Afterlife project on Kickstarter seems interesting (one day left only)

In the past, I've bought several miniatures from Anvil Industry and they are of very high quality. Especially their recent creations are impressive resin casts. For this reason, I believe their Kickstarter project is worthy supporting , if one is looking for some non-standard Marines and Guardsmen...With free shipping it may be a good deal, and delivery time is not so distant (Jan 2014).

I suppose that these miniatures will be available in Anvil Industry webstore next year (project is already funded), but during the campaign they should be cheaper.

Eastern theme continued...

Two more figures from the east.
This time they are not only made there, but quite originally fitting the existing eastern theme of WH4K by using Vostroyan style...

Making Hydra flak tank (1)

Some months ago, when a preview of Aegis Defence Line set appeared in the Web, I've immediately thought about using its parts as a flak cannons for IG Hydra. Yeah, fast and cheap solution but also little cheap result...
To be clear, I have nothing against Forge World model and could bear the price at current euro/GBP rate, but I like alternatives also.
So, it did not take long until I bought this set:

It is produced by Warforged miniatures and I got mine from D6 Hobbies store. They are well done and details level is satisfactory for either IG or Ork army. The latter however has currently much better option from FW.

They are 18 USD per set, plus s&h, which is rather expensive if you consider necessity of turret construction.
Speaking of turret construction, it should be relatively easy using plasticard and some spare bits. Warforged Miniatures guy showed this somewhere in one post.
But, I decided to check first what Old Crow is offering:

This turret is definitely too small and will fit much better with their original armament (at the back). So, lets go for the another turret:

Second set is much more promising but only if you will stay with one pair of autocannons. If you like to use it with missiles as a Manticore, you should also check this post and the related ones at 42nd Cadian.

Full set of four cannons does not fit, which leaves me unfortunately at starting point... Seems I have to find some time and make a turret from plasticard and bits below:
These are Baneblade side plates and Hellhound back. Not expensive at all, but this time...

Troll Forged Miniatures - a well mixed pot

A kind of preview of Troll Forged Miniatures and their offer.
It is not so usual company as they define themselves as "resin casting services for independent sculptors". This seems to be true as their website contains incredible mix of everything, from fantastic top-notch figures to quite ridiculous creations, resembling some beginnings of fantasy miniatures production (yet, far superior to anything which I could sculpt by myself, to be fair).
Let's look at these Guardsmen, aren't they incredibly good?

Fortunately, at their forum I found some pictures of unpainted models and even a comparison with GW Catachan guardsman.

If you wish to further extend your range, they have finish-it-yourself kit of bodies with backpacks. Add any suitable head like those from Westwind or Pig Iron and that's it!

Fantasy section has also some very strong points like this Minotaur or Lizardmen below. These guys deserve a permanent job at GW or ForgeWorld!

Quick search in the forum shows that they have much more goodies just waiting for production. Check these dwarves below (and the orc is not bad, either).

Note: as usual, I used these pictures without permission. I hope that the small advertisement of their work which I did will pay back for my impoliteness. At the bottom of the right-hand column, you will find a permanent link to their website.
