Celebrate Freedom With A S'more Kit

It's ABC (Anything But A Card) Monday at Catch The Bug  and I've got a little Fourth Of July project to share with you.  It's fun, simple  and yummy but the best part is I've recycled a spaghetti jar in the process. Just doing what I can to keep our planet clean and green!

Now, while Bugaboo Stamps has a lot of great images that are perfect for this project, I chose to feature AKV World Flags-USA.  He just reminds me of Texas!

Here is my completed project.  It holds enough s'more stuff for four.
delicious treats.  Can you imagine the smiles on your friends faces when you gift them with this?!!

To begin, you need to wash a nice size jar and lid  let them dry.  (mine was Kroger brand spaghetti sauce so there were no embedded logos)

Now, gather the following items:

1. Designer paper
2. Mod Podge
3. Colored mage and whatever you want to embellish with.
4. Ribbon
5. (2) Bamboo skewers
6. (4) Marshmallow in a baggie
7. (4) Graham crackers in a baggie
8. (4) Snack size Hershey's bars
9. Pencil for tracing the lid.

Begin by tracing a circle on the back side of your designer paper using the lid for your template.  Once you have done that, draw a larger circle around that one.  I free handed this but you could use a circle template.  It needs to be about 3/4 to 1 inch larger than your first circle.
Next, take scissors and make cuts at 1/2 inch intervals just up to the inner circle  like you see in the diagram below:

Now it's Mod Podge time.  Use a brush (I couldn't find mine so I used my fingers, talk about messy) and apply a generous amount of Mod Podge to the outside of the lid and the inner circle of your designer paper.  Then place your lid onto the DP, smoothing out any bubbles.

Start applying Mod Podge to a few of the cut pieces and fold them up, one by one.  When you have them all in place and smoothed out, add another layer of Mod Podge to the entire  DP surface and then set it aside to dry while you fill and decorate the jar.  I made a belly band for mine using a strip of  DP that was 12 x 1.5 inches.  That's all it took for this fun and tasty treat!

Here is another one I created using the same image but a different designer paper.

I colored the image using Copic markers.

Hope you have enjoyed this project and tutorial!

Until next time, have a great day and thanks for stopping by!  TTFN

Tutorial-Making Faux Candles

Good morning!  It's Tutorial Wednesday over at Catch The Bug and it's my turn to share with you all!  I thought it would be fun to show you how I make my Faux Candles for birthday cards.

The cool thing about making faux candles is they're made from paper so you don't have to worry about wax melting all over your creations when you mail them and you can customize them to match your cards.

So let's get started!  I made a fun girls birthday card using Bugaboo Stamps Wee Ones-Cake Time.

Faux Candles

Supplies you'll need:

Various pieces of designer paper measuring 2 x 1.5 Inches
Embroidery floss or bakers twine
Adhesive
Glossy accents or glue tabs
Skewer or thin knitting needle

Start by rolling paper around the skewer so that the finished candle will be 2 inches long. Apply adhesive to the end and attach.

Remove from skewer and insert embroidery floss through the middle, leaving approximately ¼ inch out the top.

Apply a little drop of glossy accent to the inside top to hold thread in place. Trim excess thread from bottom.

Let adhesive dry and your finished.

Here's a card I made using the Faux candles, tied together with twine and attached with glue:

Images: Wee Ones Cake Time (Bugaboo Stamps), Jot It Down (The Cutting Cafe)
Papers: White. Bold Yellow Stripe (Recollections), Surf & Swim Lei and Dots (Trinity Papers), Hello Summer Little Flowers (Echo Park)

That's all there is to it!  Can't wait to see your birthday creations with faux candle embellishments!  Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!

Oh Christmas Tree-Tutorial

It's my turn to host the Wednesday tutorial at Catch The Bug, so I thought I would share my 3-D Christmas tree with y'all!  It's a fun way to punch up a card and give it a little more dimension.  I added my finished tree to this card featuring  Ruby Christmas Tree from Bugaboo Stamps.

Here's what you'll need to make the tree.  Three punched circles (2 5/16, 1 7/8 & 1 7/16) and your choice of adhesive.  I use Scotch Quick Dry adhesive.

That's all there is to it!  I know this was a long post but I love to paint a clear picture when it comes to tutorials!   Hope to see you making lots of Christmas trees for your cards!

Until next time, have a great day and thanks for stopping by!  Happy Thanksgiving!  TTFN

Double Z Treat Holder Tutorial

Good morning!  I promised you a tutorial on the Double Z Treat Holder that I had earlier in the week and here it is.  I'm not good at summarizing so there are lots of pictures and I hope my instructions are clear.  I'm starting with the finished treat holder so you can get a picture of what it's supposed to look like.  I didn't include the embellishments in the directions cause I figure you're gonna want to add your own flair to your project.  The image I used is Halloween Bobble Head Mummy from Bugaboo Stamps.:

Here are the basic supplies you need to get started.

Card base:
Card stock measuring 8 1/2 x 9 1/2 ( I chose pumpkin)
(1) strip of black card stock measuring 2 x 6 inches
(1) strip of gold card stock measuring 1 1/2 x 6 inches

Band:
(1) strip of black card stock measuring 8 1/2 x 2 inches
(1) strip of gold card stock measuring 8 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches

Image and embellishments

For instructional purposes I used white card stock for the following two photos so you could see the score and fold lines better.

Make score lines parallel to the bottom at 2 1/2 and 2 1/4 inches.

Turn card stock and make score lines at 1 1/2, 3, 3 1/4, 6 1/4, 6 1/2, and 8 inches.

Now turn your card stock again and add 1/2 inch score lines on both sides of just the bottom portion.  (refer to the photo for this, these are your glue tabs)

Cut away the portion with the solid lines.  You can pencil this in on your card stock if you need to and erase later.  It's up to you.

This is what it should look like after you've made your cuts.  Now it time to make your folds.

Fold the  two inside scores on both sides towards the center,  The outside scores on both sides away from the center and the bottom scores up towards the center.

Burnish your edges with a bone folder so they are nice and crisp.

The next photo show what your folds should look like.

Now it's time to assemble your treat holder.

With the  front flaps folded, add your adhesive to  half of the the flap and attach the front strip of card stock.  I also like to add adhesive to my front strip to give it a little more stability. While holding your folded card closed, attach the front strip making sure to center it.

It's time to make your band.  I like to attach my smaller strip of card stock to my larger strip before I make my score lines.  Score the band at 2 1/2, 2 7/8, 5 7/8 and 6 1/4 inches and crease, fold and glue.

This is what your card and band should look like.  I used my cuttlebug and label one nestabilities to create a frame for my image.  When attaching your image to the front of you card, you are going to add your adhesive to only the portion attached to the right flap.

That's pretty much it!  As you can see from the completed picture I added a little punched moon and some hand cut lettering to finish it off, but you can embellish yours any way you want.  Sorry this was so long but I hope it was clear enough!  Have fun creating your own treat holders.

Until next time, have a great day and thanks for stopping by!  TTFN

Tutorial Wednesday-Catch The Bug

I have two  posts for Catch The Bug today so be sure to scroll down and check out our Wacky Wednesday challenge.

Good morning!  I hope you like tutorials because it's my turn to host this weeks Wednesday Tutorial at Catch The Bug

Have you seen the little drink carriers that I've made and posted here on my blog?  Well today's the day I'm gonna share with you step by step instructions on how to make your own.  They're so versatile in their use!  For today's sample I chose to make "The Perfect Baby Shower Gift Holder".  Let's get started!

First you'll need to gather your supplies:

Now that you have all the things you need, it's time to score and cut your card stock.  The image below shows the score lines and cut lines.
Once you're made all your score lines and cuts, crease your fold lines and burnish them using your bone folder.  It's time to assemble your cup holder individually.  See photo below.
Doing good so far.  Next we're gonna glue these together.  Avoid gluing the top center area or you will have a difficult time punching this area later.  See photo below for example on where to place glue.
You see I've put glue all around the edges and covered the body of the cup holder, but I've left the space at the top.  Attach this piece to the matching piece and allow time for drying.  Now it's time to embellish!   Start by wrapping and gluing the large pieces of designer paper around the holder.  Once you've completed this, wrap the smaller strips along the top and bottom of the designer paper.  Now that the handle portion has had time to dry, you're gonna want to punch the handle hole.
Insert the punch along the side of the handle, lining the top of the punch up with the top of the handle.  Repeat this process on the other side being careful to line it up with your first punch.  You can also round the corner of your handle if you would like.  It's your choice.  I like the rounded look.
That's pretty much all there is to it.  All you have left to do is embellish your cup holder any way you like.  Here's my finished project!  I used one of Bugaboo's Friday Freebie images to make a perfect baby shower present that's sure to get oohs and aahs from everyone.  The image is just one of many adorable baby images in A Kids View Babies.
Hope you enjoyed the tutorial and I look forward to seeing what kinds of projects you create with it.  Until next time, have a great day and thanks for stopping by!!  TTFN Hugs, Becky
