Another Monday Morning…

and we escaped the ice, just getting pretty steady rain all day yesterday.  This morning it is foggy with 48 degrees.  Tomorrow is to be mid 60s with thunderstorms and then another cold front comes through.

I am so glad the days are inching closer to spring.  Friday will be the 1st day of February.  I have always thought that January was the hardest winter month to get through.   Actually pretty depressing.

mom and family

I am still looking at old photos.  This is a photo of my mom’s family.  That is my grandfather and grandmother in the front row.  My mother is standing on the far right.  My mother had 7 siblings.  One of them is missing from this picture.  If my cousin Audrey in Michigan is reading this will you please let me know who is missing from the picture.

I need to get off here and get busy, also go check my car out.  It made some funny noise when I started it yesterday.  I am tired of putting money in my car but I only have 85,000 miles on it and I have to leave my car sit outside in the elements.  For that reason I hate to buy a new car.

Have a good week all of you!  Stay safe and be happy!!

And then there…

were only 33 days left on the Countdown to Spring.  It is drizzly and foggy here this morning and the temp is holding steady right now at 36 degrees.

As I am writing my blog I often look at a word I have written and wonder if I have used it in the right context.  The red squiggly lines underneath a word on live writer let me know if it is misspelled but not if it is used in the right context.  One of my duties at my last job at the AFB was to proof and correct officer performance reports, also to make note if the words were used in the right context.  I spent many a time running up  3 flights of stairs to the general’s office at the end of the day to confer with his secretary over the use or misuse of a word.  Looking back I can now honestly say that was my least favorite job I have had in all of my lifetime.  This was before the days of computers that corrected words for you.  No whiteout was allowed.  If you had to correct a word hopefully you could get it just right on your typewriter and lift it off and redo it.  Easier said then done.  Now I don’t give a tiddleypoop whether a word is used in the right context or not.  My blog, my words!

I have managed to get my place cleaned and dusted this week including the bathroom which I hate to clean.

I need to close for now.  It will soon be  time to head off for my doctor visit.  Update on that tomorrow.

Stay safe and be happy!!

47 days…

till Spring and the groundhog didn’t see his shadow here so that means Spring is right around the corner or 47 days from now, whichever comes first.

I just went outside and snapped a couple of pics to show you how the cemetery looks shrouded in fog with a temp of 27 degrees.   It is lightening up some now as you couldn’t see anything an hour ago.

This picture shows the tree that I will be taking a picture of each month.  Next shot will be 4 February at 10 AM.

I think I didn’t make myself clear in yesterday’s post.  I moved here from a town of 4300 almost 2 years ago.  It was there that I had a 60 mile round trip to see my doctors and to go to the stores, Meijer, WalMart , Target, etc.  Here most of those places are just a few miles  from me now.  I like it here but I do miss my friends.  I also misspoke when I said the neighbors here didn’t reciprocate.  One of my neighbors moved out at the end of December.  Before she left she put a handwritten note in my mailbox thanking me.  Also 2 of my daughter’s friends (and she has many) that I sent a fruit cake to sent me cards and a gift.   I guess what I was trying to say is that I miss you Sandi and Jo, a lot.

I have to close for now.  I have a doctor appointment later this morning.  Do stay safe and be happy!!

And the countdown continues…

Only 71 days till Spring.  I am eagerly awaiting the budding trees, the daffodils  pushing up through the ground and all of that good stuff.  Granted, there are no daffodils to poke their pretty heads up through the ground here, but we are scheduled to have all kinds of things planted around here since they pulled up the dying shrubs.

Some of my flowers from home.

It is still quite chilly here this morning at 23 degrees.  There is a heavy fog that is not burning off very quickly.  As soon as it is clear I am going to the store  as I am out of eggs.  I had my daughter and SIL over for lunch after church yesterday and I have a lot of mashed potatoes left over.  I am going to make Potato Cakes out of them, cool and freeze them.

Fried Potato Cakes:

2 cups leftover mashed potatoes

1 beaten egg

1/4 cup of flour

Stir the beaten egg and flour into the mashed potatoes.  Form into patties and dip each patty into flour again.  Brown in 2 tablespoons of oil.

These are so good.  My mom used to make them when I was a child.  Isn’t it amazing the memories we retain from our childhood?  I have what would be called a selective memory.  I remember the things I want to remember and the rest goes  in what I call the trash pile section of my brain.  lol

I have already done laundry.  After I get home from the store I will tackle a little bit of cleaning.  My first doctor appointment of the new year is on Wednesday.  Can’t wait (said in sarcastic tone).

I hope this is a good week for us all.  Stay safe and be happy!!
