Dazzler is a character with an interesting history. She was pitched as a joint venture between Casablanca Records and Marvel Comics in the late seventies to sell comics, cartoons, and music a'la The Monkees and The Archies. If her first concepts would have been accepted, she would be a black hero (modeled after Grace Jones) named Evelyn Free using the codename Disco Queen to fight villainy with her powers to force the truth out of people. Thank goodness her name was tweaked and her abilities changed to light-based powers, but it would be awesome to see a multiverse Grace Jones version some day. This Marvel Gallery PVC statue is my favorite piece of Dazzler merchandise in my collection. It captures great great classic disco look in a statuesque pose at a very reasonable price. The Marvel Gallery, DC Gallery, and Femme Fatales statue lines from DST are very impressive. I currently own eight and I only expect that number to grow. Let's check out Dazzler below!

Marvel Legends - DAZZLER!
I don't think I ever realized how many distinct looks that Alison Blair aka Dazzler has had. But surprisingly this newest Marvel Legends figure of her provides a third version that I just had to have. I love Dazzler for two main reasons. Firstly, she is one of the first Marvel Heroines to star in a self-titled comic. It may seem commonplace in modern times, but Dazzler #1, 1981, was only the (I believe) 5th female led Marvel comic. Secondly, she played a big role in the Mojoverse and Mojo Mayhem storyline featuring a wacky media-obsessed world partly created by my OG favorite artist, Arthur Adams. For those reasons, she will always have superstar status in my mind. It was quite a surprise to get a third version of this character so soon, but I am so glad someone had the idea because she looks great (if you can get over the sticker shock of the set. I got mine on sale). The photography process for me proved very frustrating however, for some reason my camera represents her with a gray-green outfit and pinkish skin.

Marvel Legends Vintage - DAZZLER!
Marvel Legends: Vintage (Toy Biz) Series 03 - Dazzler - Hasbro 2019
While watching the latest season of Stranger Things, I keep reminiscing on my own childhood mall memories of the 80's and 90's. One of the highlights for me and my siblings (aside from Kay-Bee Toys of course) was the arcade. I spent countless hours there as a child running frantic loops on the day-glo patterned carpets trailing a string of tickets a mile long. Only a few actual video games made a lasting impression on me though. Namely Golden Axe, Simpsons, and Konami's classic X-Men game. True to my nature, I only ever played the female characters, Storm and Dazzler. I didn't actually know Dazzler from the comics too well, but her inclusion in the 1985 Pryde of the X-Men cartoon must have made an impression because I knew exactly who the the character was. I didn't notice her again until her appearances early on in Jim Lee's X-Men series in the 90s. Her costume has changed a lot over the years, but because of those early introductions, I will always prefer this blue starburst look. Let's check her out!

Marvel Legends - DISCO DAZZLER!
Marvel Legends - X-Men Legends: Warlock BAF Series - Dazzler - Hasbro 2017
This newest wave of X-Men Legends figures has given us two very classic characters that were long overdue in Legends form. Polaris was the third female mutant in the Marvel universe, but she didn't appear in the Legends series for 15 years. Dazzler also has some major historical presence. She was created in 1980 as a bizarre cross-marketing scheme. Marvel Comics, Casablanca Records, and Filmworks planned on simultaneously introducing a comic book character, a real-life recording artist, and a motion picture based on a disco-singing bo-derek-lookalike mutant. The other platforms failed, but her life in comics has been impressively persistent. Her solo series lasted for four years, the movie script was turned into a graphic novel, and she has gone on to be a member of the X-Men, Excalibur, S.H.I.E.L.D. and most recently, A-Force (among others). That's pretty impressive for a character who is more of a performer than a fighter. So, yeah, it's about time. Let's check Dazzler out below!

The Women of Marvel MINI-MATES SERIES 64!
Marvel Mini-Mates - Series 64 - Capt Marvel, Thor, & Dazzler - DST 2016
Here's the second part of the amazing Mini-mate day from a month ago. Marvel Mini-mates Series 64 was Secret Wars themed and included the new Lady Thor, Carol Danvers Captain Marvel, and the long-awaited Disco Dazzler. Each of these characters seem like they would be prime candidates to anchor their own waves, so to get them all together (let alone on the same day as the awesome ladies in the Deadpool wave) was a little mind-blowing. Hopefully there will be many more waves like this in the future. I'm really looking forward to what DST shows at Toy Fair next week. The only character I'm really wishing for is Silk, but other than that I'm just expecting to be pleasantly surprised. I'm going to have to seek out some new display options for my Minimates soon, as I've somehow managed to amass a small army in the past few years. Maybe I can finally put my old spice racks to good use. Let's check out Captain Marvel, Lady Thor, and Disco Dazzler below!
