Little Guy Floppy Tie Tutorial - Baby Tie Onesie

With Easter right around the corner, I thought it would be a good time to re-post my Little Guy Floppy Tie Tutorial.  I shared it several weeks ago on Someday Crafts

'Tis the season to make sure our little guys have a spiffy new set of church clothes.  With my older son, his church clothes used to drive me crazy...particularly the shirts.  He looked so cute dressed up, but the button-down shirts seemed bulky and uncomfortable for such a little guy, and the shirts never seemed to stay tucked in...not to mention trying to get a tie to stay on a little guy.

So with our youngest I've gotten smart and made him tie onesies.  I've made a couple versions, but my favorite is this Little Guy Floppy Tie onesie.  This puts a new twist on the classic tie onesie.

Instead of having the whole tie sewn onto the shirt, the tie is loose and just the "knot" part of the tie is sewed down.

My little guy loves having the tie to play with.  I love that I don't have to fight him to keep the tie on and the tie never gets lost.

Little Guy Floppy Tie - Guest Post at Someday Crafts

Today I get to take a break from our For the LOVE of BOOKS series to be part of Crafting for Baby over at Someday Crafts.  With Easter coming up, 'tis the season to make sure our little guys have a spiffy new set of church clothes.  With my older son, this church clothes used to drive me crazy...particularly the shirts.  He looked so cute dressed up, but the button-down shirts seemed bulky and uncomfortable for such a little guy, and the shirts never seemed to stay tucked in...not to mention trying to get a tie to stay on a little guy.

Tiny Guy Tie Applique Template

Here's another project that I finished a year ago and never managed to get it posted.  I thought now would be a good time with Easter coming up.
I was reminded of it when I went to make a friend a baby shower gift...paired with some Comfy Newborn Cuffed Pants in grey or black.

Pumpkin Pi Tie

Okay...so this isn't my best work.  I won't go into all the things I could have done better with this one, because frankly it's good enough.

Whenever I go to Goodwill, I always look for solid color ties crying out for some paint.  This brown tie was screaming.  I mean, it's high class polyester.  So even if I've had some freezer paper stenciling turn out better...this tie still is about infinity times cooler than it was before I got my hands on it.

Eric posed in this tie for me, even though as we know from here, he's not great at giving posed smiles...but those pictures turned our blurry and I don't want to wait to take new ones.

If you want to make your own Pumpkin Pi Tie, you can download the printable pattern here...which is the same as the Pumpkin Pi Onesie pattern, except that it's smaller. :)

DIY Easy Constellation Tie with Free Pattern

The days of coordinating family costumes are over for us now that the kids are old enough to have an opinion about what they want to be...or rather that more than one of them has a strong opinion about it.

But we decided for Daddy and Anson to coordinate...and who knows, I might too we'll see.  Since Eric is a science teacher and Halloween is on a school day, we thought a science themed costume would be fun.  The plan is for Eric to be the Big Dipper and Anson will be the Little Dipper.  I hope to have their costumes ready to show you soon...

But since Eric's costume is going to be made from a sweatshirt (It's always super cold here on Halloween), we figured he'd need something else for his "school" costume...so enter the Constellation Tie.

Radioactive Tie

Hubby wears ties to school a lot.  It's not requried for teachers at his school, but he thinks it's more professional.  Since he's always been a math and science kind of guy he's accumulated some fun, nerdy ties over the years.  His main focus in collage was chemistry, so he's got 3 or 4 periodic table ties.  Now that he's a high school teacher, he's also teaching physics and physical science, so I thought it was time he had some ties with a broader range of science topics.

So for Christmas, I made him a radioactive tie.

Well, with a radioactive symbol on it...the tie itself is not radioactive. :)

I'd seen this post from Megan at Generation T used freezer paper stenciling on a tie and thought I would give it a try.  (An honestly...I think her tutorial is better, so if you're going to actually try this, be sure to click over and read her version too.)

Now I have to say, this was a bit trickier than regular freezer paper stenciling.

Here's what you'll need...
