Wee Wander Triangle Scrap Quilt - Bloggers Quilt Festival Entry

I haven't gotten a chance to blog about this quilt properly yet, but it's a recent favorite and I wanted to use is as an entry in the Bloggers Quilt Festival.  It's also listed in my Pieces by Polly Quilts shop here.

If you're a new visitor from the Blogger's Quilt Festival, I hope you'll stop and take a look around.  You can see browse through most of my quilts on my quilts page here.  You can also follow me on your favorite social media here:

I always love when Blogger's Quilt Festival comes around. I've met some of my best online quilting friends this way. If you've never participated in the Blogger's Quilt Festival before, you should! It's open to everyone. You can find out more details about it here.

I'm entering my Wee Wander Triangle Quilt into the Scrap Quilts Category.  All of the triangles are scraps from cutting out the hexagons for my Wee Wander Hexagon Quilt.

With so many identically shaped triangles, I just couldn't resist making their own quilt out of them.

I know I've shared this quilt before as part of the Sarah Jane Studios Wee Wander Blog Tour.  If you're a regular blog reader, I hope you don't mind seeing pictures again.  I'm entering this into the Original Design Quilts Category.

This pattern was especially designed to go with Sarah Jane's Wee Wander collection by Michael Miller fabrics...
...but it would work well with any fabrics that have large scale prints you really want to show off.

Are you on Instagram? And Works in Progrss...

I'm finally on Instagram!  If you want to see more of what I'm working on, on a day-to-day basis, I'd love for you to follow me @PiecesbyPolly.

My sister Katie has been telling me for months that I needed to find a way to get on Instagram.  Hubby and I tend to be 5-10 years behind the curve on most electronic gadgets.  (We have a 15-inch or so TV with embedded VCR...but no DVD player other than the computer...can we still be friends?)  We just can't quite stomach the monthly bill that would come with a smart phone when we've been getting along just fine with our one $10 a month-ish prepaid not-smart-cell-phone

So instead of a smart phone we got an iPod touch (see...6 or so years after the first ones came out).  I'm LOVING that I can snap a quick picture of a project and share it without having to stop what I'm doing to download pics off my camera to the computer and then upload them the web.

So in case you missed it, here's a peek at what I've been up to this week.

Quilts Page Updated...Hoping for a better day

Yesterday was one of those days when I had big plans for getting lots of things done...a quilt finished, new items for the shop made, photographed, and listed, and a new project started.  And yesterday turned out to be one of those days when I didn't get much done.  We had a storm the night before so I ended up watching a friends' kids who didn't have school because the power was out in their town.  Then Anson was REALLY acting like he had an ear infection.  Our doctor wasn't in the clinic for the day, so we drove to the back-up doctor's 45 minutes away, waiting for an hour to be seen, only be told he didn't have an ear infection, at least not yet.  (Definitely makes me grateful for our small town doctor who can nearly always fit us in within an hour or so of calling in with a sick kid and the wait at their office is 10 mintues or less.)

Anyway, I had a customer contact me about a custom quilt, so I figured it was time to update my Quilts page to reflect a larger sample of the patterns I'm familiar with.  Head on over and check it out.  It makes me smile to pictures of all those quilts in one place.

And after getting the quilt page updated, I realized that the piecesbypolly email I set up when I changed the name of my blog wasn't forwarding properly, so I had over 100 blog related emails waiting to be responded to.  If you've emailed me in the last couple months and I didn't respond, I'M SO SORRY!  Hopefully you got the reply you were waiting for last night.

I'm hoping for a better day today...I'm going to get that quilt bound and some new things made for the shop, so stay tuned!

Please show my sponsors some love...

I'm going to the Pacific Northwest Modern Quilt Meet-Up

I've been itching to go to some sort of sewing/quilting conference for a while, but either found out about them too late or couldn't justify the expense.

And then I heard about the Pacific Northwest Modern Quilt Guild Meet-Up in Portland in a few weeks.  It's inexpensive to sign up, and I can stay at my mom's house...so I'm going!  It's August 15-18th.

I'm actually REALLY excited about it, even though it's a little out of my comfort zone to go on my own.  I'm not a member of a modern quilt guild since there aren't any close enough to be practical for me to join, but they said I could go.  I'm not sure if my quilting style really qualifies as "modern" but I think maybe my Hexies by Halves approaches it.

So anyone else want to go?  I'd love to meet some of my blogging buddies face-to-face.  You can find information about it here.

One Last Reminder...New Ways to Follow

At the risk of sounding a little annoying...if you're still using Google Reader, you'll need to update to another blog reader.  Google Reader is going away tonight.  Here are some other easy options for following Pieces by Polly.  There are lots of readers out there and pretty much any of them should work.  Here are my favorite ways to follow blogs...

New Ways to Follow Pieces by Polly (formerly Helping Little Hands)

I kinda like my routine, so when I heard several months ago that Google Reader was going away, I didn't really think much about it.  Well, it's almost here.  As of Monday, July 1st, it will be gone.  So if you use Google Reader to follow Pieces by Polly or your other favorite blogs, you'll want to be sure to switch over to a new blog reader soon while you can still import your blog list.

Here are several ways that you can follow Pieces by Polly:

I've chosen to switch over to Bloglovin.  You can follow me there by clicking on the button below.

Helping Little Hands is now Pieces by Polly

I've been feeling like my blog needed a facelift for a while, and I'm excited to say it's finally here.  After nearly four years of blogging under the name Helping Little Hands, I've decided to change my name to Pieces by Polly.  I'm moving toward branding my blog a bit more and opening up my own Etsy shop.

Years ago when I started this little blog, I had no idea I would be blogging for this long.  I had a hard time thinking of a name I was happy with and settled on Helping Little Hands because of all my kids little hands that help with (and sometimes hinder) my projects.  I've thought of changing the name of my blog many times over the years, but never thought of anything that seemed like a better fit.

When I thought of Pieces by Polly the name just felt right.  This is where I share things I make from pieces of fabric.  I share pieces of my life.  Everything I share is a piece of heart, and when I'm lucky and project turns out so well that it also becomes a piece of art.

I hope you'll bear with me as I get all the links and buttons updated on my blog.  All the behind the scenes work means I haven't been posting as much as usual.  Right now the biggest issue is changing the name on my Facebook page...turns out it's not an easy thing to do.  I'm totally crossing my fingers that I don't I've to start over from scratch.  I'll also be switching over to a .com site rather than a .blogspot address...but I can only take so many changes at one time.

Turns out it may be harder than I thought to change the name on my Facebook Page.  I'm hoping to switch it over, but there's paperwork and such involved....so for the time being I'm starting up a new page for Pieces by Polly.  If all goes well, I'll be able to change the name of the old one and merge the two, but for now please go to the new Pieces by Polly Facebook page and like it.  (Once you've liked it, you can also hover over the like button and click on get notifications to make sure you don't miss anything.)  For the next while, I will be posting to both the Helping Little Hands Facebook Page and Pieces by Polly Facebook page, so if you'd prefer not to get notifications from both, please switch over to the Pieces by Polly page.  THANKS!!

I've got several great giveaways lined up for the next couple weeks, though, so be sure to check back.
