Lego: Vic and Elsa

Back in February I wrote about the episode of Jeff Stormer’s podcast Party of One where I played the RPG Atomic Highway.  My character in that game was a descendant of Frankenstein rebuilt to resemble the famous monster.  That episode was actually the second that Jeff and I recorded but the first one is lost to the ether.  I think it was something on my end but Jeff is way too polite to say so.

With two games under my belt I think about the character a lot.  Randomly one day I was thinking about how Lego had made a greaser style hair piece and how I had a few Frankenstein’s monster head pieces.  The idea clicked into place like two Lego.  The moment I could dive into my parts bins I quickly threw together Vic.  I was super happy with the results but I immediately knew I wanted more.  Vic was nothing without his car Elsa (named after Bride of Frankenstein actress Elsa Lanchester).  I knew I had to build the car too.

Luckily for me I didn’t have to work completely from scratch.  Lego’s Speed Champion line currently has a Camaro two pack.  Once of those cars is based on the current model while the other is an older version that looked ready to drag race.  It was a perfect base.  There were things that needed to be on Elsa through; specifically a ram prow and two linked machine guns.  The ram prow was easy enough, Lego has made enough old style trains that getting a cow catcher just meat spending a few minutes on Bricklink.

The machine guns were a little different; Lego doesn’t care for realistic looking weapons.  After looking around for a little bit I decided to go the third party route.  I placed an order for the Brick Arms machine guns and clips that allow them plug into jumper plates.  The ram prow and guns required me to rework the front and hood of the car.  I lost a lot of the sleekness that’s in the original set but it looks far more dangerous.

Because of all extra hardware on the hood I raised the passenger area and roof up by one stud.  I also replaced headrest with a stickered tile that has a 13 on it.  Vic always had a rockabilly vibe to him, so when I found the 13 stickers I knew I had to use them.  I originally wanted the back end to be fully of survival type gear.  I really, really wanted propane tanks and things like that.  The scale eventually got the better of me.  Had I made the car 8 studs wide instead of 6 I think my original vision would have worked but by this point I was already fully committed to the smaller vehicle.

I also wanted to only use half the back end.  That way I could still have part of the white stripe that goes down Elsa’s hood.  This literally was the longest part of the build.  I took apart and rebuilt the back end numerous times until I got to a version I was happy with.  The tool sled slides into place and is held in the back with the ladder and a chain.  It rests on smooth tiles so it’s easy to pull out for use.  Under the sled I used another of the 13 stickers.  With the scale I was only able to get a hammer, wrench, and socket into the tool area but I feel it gets the point across.

In the end I’m really happy with the results.  Both Vic and Else turned out extremely close to how I imagined them.  If you want to hear more about the character check out the Party of One Podcast.  Make sure you give a listen to more than just the Apocalypse Highway episode though, there are far funnier people playing there that me.

Lego Rogue One

I don't believe anything has been officially released yet, but it is inevitable that Lego will have sets based on Star Wars Rogue One. Today they posted this image to their Facebook.

Needless to say I'm excited beyond words that we may have a Star Wars move that isn't knee deep in Jedi.

Flash Friday: Lego Mighty Micros

Happy Flash Friday everyone!  I had really wanted to post this last week, but sadly real life kept me from getting my order on time.  Ultimately that may have been a good thing, because I’ve had more time put my thoughts together.  Mighty Micros are a new Lego line that started showing up on store shelves this month.  For around 1o dollars you get two very small, almost kart-like vehicles and two mini-figures with short leg pieces.  The current wave contains both Marvel and DC characters; although we’ll be talking about the Flash set today.

The first thing you have to remember is these are small sets.  To get two vehicles at such a low price point they had to keep them pretty simple.  The Flash set totals 88 pieces.  That’s 88 pieces split between two figures, two vehicles, and accessories.  Flash gets a tiny race car and Captain Cold a tiny snow plow/tractor.  The Flash symbol on the front of his car is a printed piece; in fact there are no stickers at all in the set which was a really nice surprise.  Both vehicles in this set are pretty sturdy and roll around well.  If you have the urge to really build something out of Lego, these aren’t going to satisfy that, but they are fun to zoom around your desk.

For a Flash fan that isn’t normally interested in Lego this seems like a great set to grab to get a cheap Captain Cold and Flash figure.  Before this Flash was in two sets a Riddler themed set that ran about 20 dollars and the Grodd Goes Bananas set that was about 60.  Captain Cold was only available in the 60 dollar set.  The Might Micro figures are not the same as the ones that came in those sets though.  Besides the fact that the figures come with the short legs that are usually used to represent Lego children the face and chest designs are almost more simple and cartoonish.  The full sized Flash figure has a smaller lightning bolt symbol and detailed muscles on his chest print.  The Might Micro has a much larger symbol and belt print.

The other big difference in the Flash figures is the face.  The full sized Flash has visible eyes when his mask is on.  The Might Micro has white eyes.  Between the white eyes and the split belt I can’t help but feel the figure was influenced by the Bruce Timm Justice League run.  I don’t have any facts to back that up, it just seems likely.

Much like the Flash, the two Captain Colds are very different.  Let’s talk cold guns first.  The full sized gun is a gigantic collection of thrown together pieces that in my opinion tries to do too much.  The entire lower section cold be left off and it would only improve the look.  The Might Micro cold gun is a ray gun with a few clear blue bricks attached to it.  The large Captain’s torso is done very realistically while the Micro’s is again cartoony and simplified.

The full sized Captain Cold’s face was always a little wrinklier than I wanted, but was otherwise very good.  The Micro version is cartoony but isn’t so over the top.  Regardless of the design, both figures are instantly recognizable as the captain.  The parka hood on both figures is identical.

The Mighty Micros are a very fun line.  At the price it’s hard not to recommend them.  But I did want to show off the differences between the minifigures.

Lego Hex Girls

Yesterday’s update was about a Lego version of Rude Boy and the Ska-Tastics. Tthose familiar with Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated may have been wondering where the musical counterpoint to the undead skankers were.  So today I present a Lego version of the Hex Girls.  To be honest, the Hex Girls were originally the only band I was going to create in Lego form, but as I started working on them I decided it would be fun to recreate both bands in the episode Dance of the Undead.

Much like the Rude Boy display this stage is modeled more to represent the theme of the band than it is an accurate depiction of the rooftops used in the episode.  This one is still a work in progress too.  The two bright red areas have changed a couple of times and I have the pieces for two more versions.   Dusk, the drummer, also has the wrong hair piece.  The blonde pigtails that I need won’t be available until September when series 16 of the Collectable Minifigures is released.  It’s hard to see in photos, but the stage actually has a clear red line bordering the edge.  It helps to offset all the black and I love the look of it.

I spent a ton of time obsessing over how to bring the Hex Girls into Lego form.  The first thing I had to figure out was the version.  In the classic Scooby Doo look they all wear vampire fangs.  Luna, the keyboardist, has a skin color that seems to change a little between appearances too.  Because I love Mystery Incorporated I decided to do that version.  Even using that as a guide the girls changed up their appearances a few times in their two episodes.  As much as I wanted them there was no way I could make the Dia des los Muertos versions with stock Lego parts.

Once I figured out faces and hair that would work I had to figure out torso and legs.  Finding a perfect match for these things was sadly impossible unless I wanted to print my own stickers.  So I really picked things that I thought would match, even if it isn’t a perfect representation of what they wore on the episodes.  I’d like to do a Crush minifigure to represent Daphne when she joins the band, but I don’t even know where to start because of how little she wore.  If I ever figure it out I’ll post an update here.

Lego Rude Boy and the Ska-Tastics

I’ve been very open about my love for the show Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated.  I honestly think it is one of the best written cartoons I’ve ever seen.  One episode in the second season (Dance of the Undead) introduces Rude Boy and the Ska-Tastics as the monster of the week.  The back story is that Rude Boy and the Ska-Tastics were a one-hit wonder that failed to catch on.  The group faked their own deaths in order to take a year off and write the perfect song.  The perfect song actually took them 30 years and when they were ready to come back they realized the ska movement was dead.  So they dressed as zombies and infused their music with voodoo to turn everyone that listened to them into dancing zombies.

When the Scooby Doo Lego sets were released last year I immediately started thinking of other things from the shows that I wanted to see put into Lego form.  Rude Boy and the Ska-Tastics were one of those things.  The first thing I have to say about it is that the stage isn’t show accurate.  In Dance of the Undead the band is playing on a rooftop with a large checkered banner behind them.  I knew I’d never be able to do their logo correctly; so I did a checkered floor instead.  I was able to keep the coffin backdrops, so I was pretty happy about that.  I added a few skulls for some additional flair.  It doesn’t look like a screenshot from the show, but I think it fits the characters.

You’d have to really look closely at the picture to notice, but it also isn’t finished.  Despite the big bags of Lego bricks I posted yesterday I’m still missing a number of tiles that I need to complete the stage.  Those will be fixed after I make my next order. I somehow mixed up the drummer and the keyboardist in this picture, something that probably no one else besides me would ever notice.  That one is an easy fix that will happen as soon as I finish writing this.  I'm pretty happy with how the band translated into Lego.  Obviously there are repeated pieces between the band members.  Sticking with official Lego parts didn’t leave me a whole lot of options to work with when I needed Zombies in suits.  I was happy that I was able to get the two different heads and bodies to split up between the four figures.  They really would have looked like clones if they all had the same head and clothes.

This mini-Lego week continues tomorrow with another original build and then a Lego Flash Friday to end the week.

Lego Brick Haul

I've been spending too much time on Bricklink.com.  If you haven't heard of the website before Bricklink does two things.  It is an resource for finding Lego parts.  Every piece and color variation are cataloged there and most of the pieces are accompanied by pictures.  It can be a huge help when planning build projects or when checking to see if certain part/color combinations even exist.  In addition to showing you the parts that are out there, you can also buy them.  The site allows users to set up their own resale shop.  The site makes it very easy to find who has the parts you're looking for and directs you right to their store.  It makes it way too easy to drop a bunch of money by filling up your cart.

The pictures included today are from my two latest Bricklink hauls.  It doesn't look too exciting now, but these are some pretty important parts for four different projects that I'm currently working on. Two of those projects will be complete enough that I feel comfortable showing them off this week.  They aren't 100% where I want them yet, I have to order a few parts for each display.  On top of that one of the hairpieces I had to use is completely wrong and the correct one won't be available until September. The other two projects need a lot more work.  I guess what I'm saying is expect a lot of Lego content over the next couple days/weeks.

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens Video Game

After being leaked all over the internet last night, the new Lego Star Wars game has been officially announced.  The game will release on June 28th and I'm sure all of those places that take pre-orders already have their systems set up to do so.

At this point you should know what you're getting with Lego video games.  You either like them or can't stand them.  There is no doubt that some are better than others, the first Marvel one was probably the best one I had played.  It's nice to see Star Wars back in Lego form though, it's been awhile.

Flash Friday: Lego Boomerang

Happy Flash Friday everyone!  This week there have been a few toy shows and the leaks from the Lego summer sets are coming fast and furious.  In fact the pictures I’m going to be talking about come from the website zusammengebaut.com.  There isn’t a lot of Flash news coming from these Lego sets.  We already know that a set with both Flash and Captain Cold mini-vehicles will be released in the upcoming Mighty Micros wave.  But these summer sets also revealed a new mini that Rogue collectors will surely want to add to their collection.

In the big set titled Killer Croc Sewer Smash we get the first Lego appearance of Captain Boomerang!  The set features a Bat tank of some sort and a rolling bear trap on wheels.  It’s a odd design to be sure.  The minifigures shine in this set though.  A big fig of Killer Croc, Katana, and Captain Boomerang.  Why do all those characters sound familiar?  It’s almost like Lego wanted to cash in on an upcoming movie without using a name that some might find questionable for a kid’s toy.  So yeah, this is the Suicide Squad set.

Sadly it is a big set.  So to add Boomer to your home lineup you either are picking up a big box or heading to resellers like eBay or Bricklink.  I know that’s the route I’ll be going.  He looks too good not to join my Captain Cold and Trickster.  I mean, look at his little hat!  I need that in my life.  I just don’t need a Batman tank, nor do I need the pieces I’d get from dismantling the Bat tank into spare parts, even if I do only work in black…and sometimes very, very dark gray.

Flash Friday: Justice League: Attack of the Legion of Doom!

Happy Flash Friday everyone!  It’s been awhile since I’ve done one of these.  I was in the store this week for something completely different when I ran across the newest Lego movie.  I knew a Lego Justice League movie was coming out, but I wasn’t paying attention to what was coming in the packaging.  Right now you can get either a DVD or Blu-Ray version of the movie and a Trickster mini-figure.  I honestly would have passed on this but getting a movie I can probably enjoy with my son and another member of Flash’s Rogues was too good to pass up.

I just picked the movie up last night, so I haven’t had a chance to watch it.  I’m going to make a guess that it follows their other direct to video offerings.  It’ll be somewhat goofy and will have a handful of lines that make the adults smile.  There will be a couple good Easter Eggs for DC comic fans but nothing to amazing.  That’s my guess, because that’s what has come before it.  It I’m completely wrong I’ll post another article about it.

Obviously Trickster was my main reason for picking this up and I think he looks great.  As far as Flash villains go he joins Captain Cold and Gorilla Grodd.  Hopefully the success of the TV show will increase the visibility of the Rogues.  I’d really like to see Captain Boomerang, Weather Wizard, and Heatwave show up in Lego form.

Lego Mystery Machine

The August Lego sets have started to sneak onto the store shelves.  That might not mean a lot to some people but I’ve been anxiously awaiting their release.  The reason I’m so excited is that this year Lego has created a line of Scooby Doo toys.  I’ve always liked Scooby Doo but that love has been rekindled lately.  A while back I realized even though I had all these streaming services I couldn’t show my son the original Scooby Doo Where are You? cartoons.  Just showing him the show opening had him excited so at that point I pretty much had to order the DVD set.  We’ve watched all four discs, two full seasons of Scooby Doo and we both loved every second of it.  Charlie the Robot is easily my son’s favorite.

So the Scooby Doo line consists of sets across all sorts of different price ranges.  The smallest is a Mummy set, then Headless Horseman/biplane, then the Mystery Machine, a haunted lighthouse, and finally a huge haunted house.  I showed incredible restraint and only picked up the Mystery Machine.  That night I started up a mini-marathon of Mystery Incorporated and started putting the set together.  The Mystery Machine comes with Fred, Shaggy, Scooby, a Zombie, and a tree monster.  Notice it doesn’t include the girls.  Sadly to get everyone you’d have to pick up the big haunted house as well.  I get separating the figures but having to pick up the big set to round out the gang sucks.

What also sucks about the wonderful Mystery Machine model is the number of stickers.  It makes sense, the less printed pieces Lego makes the cheaper it is for them but the Mystery Machine comes with 23 stickers.  If you don’t have a steady hand you’ll probably want someone’s help when putting this one together.  The other thing I didn’t love is it is going to be a tight, tight fit to get everyone in the van.  Lego is a strange size.  Make a vehicle fit the right amount of people and it looks out of scale.  I think they could have gotten away making the van a little larger than it is.

All that said, it is a fantastic toy.  Looking at it just makes me happy.  The sides fold out so you can see in the back easily and the roof lifts off for the same ease of access.  The mini-figures are great.  In the other sets all the villains can be unmasked to show that they’re really people.  It’s that level of detail that makes these sets so much fun.  I had so much fun I couldn’t resist throwing together my version of the Wacky Races.  I had so much fun with the Scooby Doo sets I’ve already got some customer Lego ideas in the planning stages.  I won’t spoil it now but I’ll give some hints.  The first and easier is putting together a few of my favorite supporting cast members.  The second would be more involved and would be building another Hanna-Barbera character that would be right at home in that race picture…

Lego Marvel Avengers

I've played a lot of the Lego video games.  While I'd say that all of them were enjoyable, there were some that were better than others.  I think Marvel's Lego game was the best one.  It had a great open world and an original story that involved a huge cast of characters.  Today we have the trailer for Lego Marvel Avengers which looks to be a way to play through the Avengers movies.

It's still really early, but I can't help but feel let down.  As I stated before, the first Marvel Lego game was like a love letter to the Marvel Universe.  There were characters all across the Marvel Licensed properties.  The X-Men were in it.  Spiderman was in it.  The Fantastic Four was in it.  Ghost Rider, Blade, and Daredevil were all in it.  This announcement just looks a retread of the Cinematic Marvel Universe, which is much less appealing.  I hope I'm proven wrong when more details come out.

Birth of Robin

Sometimes I shouldn't be allowed near children’s toys.  As we were putting my son to bed last night I saw the Duplo Batman figure next to the circus scene and I knew what I had to do.  Batman is part of the licensed DC Comics Duplo sets that started coming out right before Christmas.  The police officer and the circus stuff all come from the other sets we have littering our floor.

Also I know it would be better if it had been Bruce Wayne and not Batman with the young Dick Grayson.  But I had a pretty limited pallet to work with here.  I figure it still gets the point across.

For the record the only DC heroes so far with figures are Batman and Superman.  By the time they get around to Flash my son will have graduated to normal sized Lego.  Of course he could be in high school and I'd still buy a Duplo Flash.

YT-2000 Microfighter

When I think about Star Wars I’m drawn to three things; the pilots/starfighters, the crime, and astromech droids.  I might enjoy some of the other elements but the ones listed above are my favorite.  Pilots/starfighters and astromechs are easy to explain.  I like watching X-Wings flying through swarms of TIE fighters.  The astromechs tie into my love for the X-Wing.  The crime bit is a bit larger though.  I love that Star Wars is dirty.  Bounty Hunters, assassins, crime lords, and the Smuggler’s Moon are exciting.  Because of that I not only have a favorite starfighter but I also have a favorite light freighter, the YT-2000.

The YT-2000 was introduced in the 1999 computer game X-Wing Alliance and is used as the main character’s personal transport.  It shares a lot of its look with the Millennium Falcon (a YT-1300) but most YT freighters in Star Wars have pretty similar looking parts.  The 2000 is supposed to be a later model than the Falcon and the main feature difference is the cockpit is now centered on the ship instead of being off to one side.  I always wanted some kind of model or toy of the 2000 but it never happened.  I would have even been happy with a Micromachine.

In 2014 Lego launched a new line of Star Wars Microfighters; squat little ships that fit one figure and generally trade realism for cuteness.  I ended up picking up a couple of the first wave, including the Millennium Falcon.  It was a great little set, but every time I looked at it I couldn’t help wishing I had a YT-2000 instead.  Thankfully with Lego you can build anything you want as long as you have the bricks.

Instead of modifying my first Falcon set I actually bought a second one.  Once I had all the pieces in front of me I realized that the modifications I wanted to do would require parts that didn’t come in the box.  Not a problem I thought, I had more than enough Lego in my house.  That turned out not to be true; I had lots of Lego bricks, just not the specific ones I needed.  I ended up going onto Bricklink and ordering the ones I needed.  Once I had the parts it quickly fell into place.  I also had to adjust the turret so I wouldn't shoot the pilot in the back in the head.

I should have squared off the back engines a little.  I was worried that if I did so the ship would end up being even longer.  The end result already ended up a little longer and bulkier than the Falcon, but I figured that was okay.  The 2000 is a little larger than the 1300 anyway.  I dropped a custom smuggler into the pilot seat and called the project finished.  I’m happy with the way it turned out and it was an inexpensive way to make a model of my favorite Star Wars freighter.

LEGO Batman 3

The new Lego Batman game has just been announced.  This one is subtitled "Beyond Gotham" and the video features the Justice League hanging out in space.  Hopefully this means that DC's other heroes will get more game time in this one.  I would be much more excited if the game was called DC Heroes and not Batman 3.

When Marvel released their Lego game it wasn't called Spiderman, Avengers, or X-Men.  They were brilliant in just using the generic Marvel Heroes.  Sure Spiderman, Wolverine, and Iron Man get a lot of screen time in the story but a lot of other characters get their time to shine.  I wish DC would have done the same this time around.

Lego: Edge of the Empire

I’ve been very happy with Fantasy Flight’s Edge of the Empire role playing game.  It receives a lot of criticism because of its use of proprietary dice but I think the system works perfectly.  I started with Star Wars RPGs way back in the West End.  The license has gone through a lot of variations and a handful of different companies before arriving at where it is today.

I’ve been running an Edge of the Empire campaign for a few months now and despite some rocky parts I couldn’t be happier about where the game is headed.  Because I enjoyed it so much I ended up creating Lego figures of all the characters.  Ofanea Antath is the Twi’lek, the astromech is R2-X8 (Rx for short), Miran Quix is holding the knives, and Jelnik Pelo is holding a blaster.

The group is currently exploring ancient ruins for a Datacron, on the run from a Hutt crime lord, searching for leads on a mysterious Crystal Nexu statue, and hunting down an ex-partner who betrayed them all.  Needless to say there is a lot going on and the player’s don’t currently know the half of it.  If you like to throw dice and pretend you’re a scoundrel I can’t recommend Edge of the Empire enough.

Metal Beard's Rules of the Sea

So lets say you've seen the Lego movie, fallen in love with Metal Beard, and want to follow his Rules of the Sea.  The problem with that is the movie only showed you one of those rules, "Never place your rear end on a pirate's face."  What are the other Rules of the Sea?  Thankfull the Lego Movie Facebook page posted all of Metal Beard's Rules of the Sea.  This is probably to get people excited for an upcoming BluRay release but they're too much fun not to share.

Ghostbusters Lego

It’s happening.  Ghost Busters in Lego form.  Lego’s Cuusoo program is a site where creators can upload their Lego masterpieces and if they get enough votes, have them reviewed by Lego.  Everyone wants their creations to become official kits and there is a lot of licensed material in those submissions.  When it comes to properties like Ghostbusters just because Lego reviewed it doesn’t mean that they’d be willing to pay for the rights to make the kit.  Except in this case they did.

That’s right there is going to be a Lego 30th Anniversary Ghostbusters set.  Brent Waller originally uploaded the set with a beautiful firehouse, ECTO-1, and four Ghostbuster minfigs.  The firehouse is beautiful, giant, and not actually getting made.  What we are getting is a much more affordable ECTO-1 and four Ghostbusters.  Hopefully we'll get a Slimer to go with the guys.

There have been third party Lego proton packs and wands out on the internet for a long time, but it will be very cool to have official versions of them.  Now is the time to start looking through the clearance bins for the Monster Hunter stuff.  After you get the Ghostbusters you’re going to need some monsters for them to fight.

Lego Lone Ranger

There are a lot of things that worry me about the new Lone Ranger movie.  I dislike Depp as Tonto, I’m worried that Tonot is going to be the main character and the Ranger becomes the sidekick, and I’m very worried that the movie is going to be a live action Bugs Bunny cartoon like Pirates of the Caribbean.  I take my Lone Ranger pretty seriously; I really don’t want it to involve him in tons of slapstick wackiness.

What I am excited for is the Lego Lone Ranger.  Lego has done Western themed sets in the past, but it has been a long time since any of them were on the shelves.  Four or five years ago I was running the Western roleplaying game Deadlands.  We used Lego for all the miniatures.  I was all over Lego bit sellers and third party sites when putting together mini-figs for the party and their adversaries.  The picture above is of the Deadland's characters.  At the time I was just dying for more Western sets.  It took a while but it finally happened.

The real star of the lineup is the train set.  But trains and tracks take up a lot of space.  They set also costs about 100 dollars.  What really excited me was a much cheaper set, the stagecoach.  During that Deadlands game I was planning out what pieces I’d need for stagecoach, this one looks perfect.  30 bucks gets you the coach, an extra horse, and 5 mini-figures.  I let myself get one Lego set a year.  If I didn’t restrict myself I’d be broke and drowning in Lego bricks.  So expect to see better pictures of this set in a month or two when I finally break down and buy it.

Kre-O Springer

When the first Transformer building sets came out I remember thinking to myself that they were okay, but I thought the mini-figures were far cooler than the Lego-like building blocks.  I didn’t worry about it too much because I had assumed they would stick more to the movie characters or the characters used on the latest cartoon.  I was wrong.

Kre-O realized how popular their Transformer mini-figures were and released a set of blind bagged characters.  I didn’t realize these were coming out, so I was surprised to see so many G1 favorites represented when I found them in the store.  As soon as I saw that the set contained Springer I knew I had to have one.  I didn’t want to test my luck though, so instead of grabbing a handful of the packages I went to eBay.  I won't lie, I was really tempted to buy a bunch of them and hope for the best.

When I received my package from eBay it was still in the blind bag.  I don’t know how the seller knew it was Springer without opening the package; I think he must be a wizard.  Springer comes with two swords; a gun and a sword would have been more accurate.  The package says you can build a robot or a vehicle, but his helicopter mode just looks like the robot is laying face down.  So really this is something you want displayed in robot mode.

Springer looks better if you don’t use all the pieces he comes with.  There is a connector that fits over his chest that allows you to plug helicopter blades onto his back.  Doing so covers up the chest details that make him look more like Springer.  I get that Kre-O didn’t want you to have a handful of extra parts, but he looks so much better without all the extra blocks strapped to him.

Fallout Lego

In the past few weeks I’ve talked a lot about Fallout. I’m always willing to talk about Lego. If you spend a lot of time looking at Lego sites, you’ve probably seen Saber-Scorpion’s Lair. Justin has done a bunch of different properties and turned them into Lego minfigs and sets. I think I first found his site when I was looking for Mass Effect sites. Today is all about Fallout.

One of the great things about the Saber-Scorpion pictures is all the custom pieces. The stickers used to make things like the Medkits and Tunnel Snake jacket are actually available on Saber-Scorpion’s website. I won’t like, I’m pretty tempted by the Tunnel Snake jacket. The guns come from Brickarms, Brickforge, and Brickwarriors. I’ve had Brickarms and Brickforge bookmarked on my home computer for a long time, they make fantastic accessories for Lego minifigs.

Obviously you can’t buy this awesome street scene, but it is fun to look at. I think the Raiders are particularly well done. The strange weapons, the piecemeal armor, and the crazy hair just scream Raiders. Considering right now I’m spending the majority of my time in Fallout searching for the Vault-Boy Bobble heads I really appreciate the one sitting on the computer desk.

You can’t have Fallout without the Brotherhood of Steel can you? Check out Saber-Scorpion’s page for even more pictures of his awesome Fallout scene. Poke around the rest of the site too, you’re bound to find more of your favorites turned into Lego.
