Monica wears Monoqool's minimal mass glasses

Monica wears Monoqool's minimal mass glasses

Occasionally, to my horror, I find I've featured certain eyewear brands far less than they deserve. Monoqool last graced EWG back in 2009 when I got all in a tizzy at its helter-skelter hinge.

Here the Danish company, which in two years has already won a few awards, shows that it's not just mechanical but material matters – and a good dose of style – that drive its success.

Its latest range uses NXT material for the frame, something so tough yet light it's used in helicopter blades. The frame weighs only 5 grams and some styles can even change colour when exposed to sunlight. Take a look at Monoqool's site to appreciate a few more...

Louis Vuitton Ella sunglasses in pink

Louis Vuitton Ella sunglasses in green
These are called Ella by Louis Vuitton.

Note the way the left and right halves of the frame are connected only by the transparent material that forms the cats-eye shape.

Like these? You might like these Prada sunglasses...

Spitfire blue Mixed Ability sunglasses at London's Portabello Market

There are a lot of good sunglasses in the world. The very best can be expensive so here is a pair that won't break the bank from Spitfire, who sell shades in fashionable London markets such as Portabello (as pictured), Spitalfields. They're round, they've coloured, translucent frames and they're very 2010, they're "Mixed Ability".

2010 sunglass trend's nail on the head: Oscar Magnuson

Oscar Magnuson's first sunglasses collection. These are Debbie.
I've been promising myself, and herewith have started promising you, to use my daily exposure to all things fashion eyewear to string together some tenuous generalisations - fashion journalism style - about the glasses one should be wearing au soleil this year. It's all  in my head and ready to be unleashed anyday now, but for now let's give you a little clue.

These are Oscar Magnuson, the Swedish brand I reported on last month, and these tick two of my trend boxes for 2010. All will be revealed soon.

2010 Green Prada sunglasses ad campaign

These green sunglasses, featured in the 2010 Prada advertising campaign, are terrific. I don't know a model number, however - sorry. Will update when I do.

UPDATE: Here's the pink pair -  PR 19MS - available here...
