Another terrific collaboration between Tim van Steenbergen and Theo has resulted in this sunglass collection for 2012 - "Trees". Clearly these acetates look brilliantly brown but the Trees are actually referred to in the metal detail which has trunk-like finish. Zeiss lenses, naturally.

Theo x Tim Van Steenbergen: the Hierro sunglass collection

Any collaboration between Theo and Tim Van Steenbergen pleases the eye, and this fourth meeting of brands is no different: a limited edition sunglass collection, Hierro.

The inspiration came from Spanish embroidery and a long-held tradition of leather working. Hierro means iron or brandmark. Every hacienda has its own logo and these sunglasses are 'branded' in metal either with a Theo or Tim Van Steenbergen emblem.

Each frame is named after a Spanish patron saint: above is Isidro, and below, Jaime and Mercè. Neither leather nor embroidery is actually used but it looks extremely convincing.

George Michael in Theo and Tim Van Steenbergen's Bel Air sunglasses

George Michael in Theo and Tim Van Steenbergen's Bel Air sunglasses

I don't think George Michael went to Snappy Snaps for this picture. It's the cover of his new single, True Faith, and features a rather distinct pair of sunglasses from Belgian eyewear specialists Theo and fellow Belgian fashion designer Tim Van Steenbergen.

Bel Air is part of Tim Van Steenbergen's American Old Timers collection, which is inspired by chrome strips, gleaming bumpers and rounded corners of American vintage cars.

True Faith, a New Order cover, is available next week. All proceeds got to Comic Relief, a UK charity.

More ace acetate sunglasses: Tim Van Steenbergen knows his grizzled skipper from his Corsican swallowtail

So it seems I started something when I raved about the acetate used in Derek Lam's 2010 sunglass style, Mauro. For I have now been nudged toward Tim Van Steenbergen's 2010 sunglasses, or more specifically Theo, by Tim Van Steenbergen...

MELLICTA ATHALIA (Heath Fritillary): A sturdy, rectangular masculine model with a double nose bridge.LIMENITIS REDUCTA (Southern White Admiral): A classic 1950s model with a keyhole nose
So where do grizzled skippers and Corsican swallowtails come into it? TVS's sunnies are all named after butterflies - hover over each image for Latin and common names. Four more Tim Van Steenbergen shades through here... (or below if you can see them already...)
