Any collaboration between Theo and Tim Van Steenbergen pleases the eye, and this fourth meeting of brands is no different: a limited edition sunglass collection, Hierro.
The inspiration came from Spanish embroidery and a long-held tradition of leather working. Hierro means iron or brandmark. Every hacienda has its own logo and these sunglasses are 'branded' in metal either with a Theo or Tim Van Steenbergen emblem.
Each frame is named after a Spanish patron saint: above is Isidro, and below, Jaime and Mercè. Neither leather nor embroidery is actually used but it looks extremely convincing.

Chanel 2011: mirrored sunglasses with a difference
Reflect for a moment...
Qu'est ce que c'est? Well, Chanel has reached new levels of luxury with the Chanel 5202Q where we're guessing that Q must refer to the quilted lambskin temples pictured below...
But look carefully at the aforementioned temples and the better sighted among you will spot a hinge. Oh yes, it can mean only one thing...
Available at Chanel boutiques and at some good opticians in black, white, tortoise and purple.

Maybach Eyewear: horn, wood, leather and gold luxury eyewear... titanium too!
Next month's Silmo show in Paris means there are plenty of new glasses acoming. And new names too. Here luxury car brand Maybach releases a few pictures from its first collection of luxury Maybach Eyewear, to be previewed next month and available to consumers at the end of October.
A ready-to-wear collection comprises eight sunglasses and 10 spectacle frames. Then, the Individual products can be bespoke using wood, horn, 18-carat gold...
No price list as yet, but suffice to say, Maybach cars sell for £500,000+ - these will not be the kind of sunglasses you lose.

Histoire de Voir has since inspired numerous other collections to bring leather into the glasses making mix.
And as he demonstrates with these five frames, the resulting look can range from smart and sophisticated (left) to rock chick (top).

Rye & Lye Marruba - leather temples
A new collection from last weekend's Silmo caught my attention - Rye&Lye, from Immagine . If you're unsure about the leather temples, think again. The few leather frames I've come across in the past feel great, really comfortable. I like the keyhole shape around the nose.
