Factory 900 melting sunglasses

They're not really melting. But you can see that the FA-1111 from Japan's Factory 900 certainly creates a distinctive look as the exquisite acetate frame curves away from the face above and below the lens. This video, in Japanese, gives you a better idea...

The sunglasses have just won a Silmo d'Or, one of the most coveted prizes in eyewear. Also available as glasses.

Lindberg's horn and titanium frame wins top tech prize at Silmo

Lindberg Horn 1801 glasses

Lindberg Horn 1802 glasses

Lindberg Horn 1803 glasses

Lindberg has a strong history of innovation so it's great to see it get the recognition it deserves with a Silmo d'Or in Paris. I had a good look at these Horn glasses in Paris and can confirm that the way the horn front fixes to the titanium sides is indeed clever stuff. And as these images testify, the join is far from clumsy. From the top: Lindberg 1801, 1802 and 1803.

Beam me up Kirk: colourful acrylic glasses for 2012

Wow! Look at the colour on these fantastic glasses from Kirk Originals. The new Beam and Sunbeam collections for 2012 are being launched at Silmo, the big eyewear show in Paris next week.

These specs look amazing; but technically they're brilliant too. They're made of acrylic. Kirk Originals has been working on these for more than a decade and while the UK designer has been using acrylic for a while now in the temples, this is the first time it's made the front of this material too.

Note the lack of any metal wire in the temple and the fantastic polish on the acrylic. Looking forward to trying a few of these on next week!

RRP: €420
