Hello my friends! Brenda here and breast cancer awareness is our theme at Sweet Sassy Diva. I really don't have a tutorial for you, but I do have one you can watch from someone else. lol I saw this tutorial and thought was a great idea for using up some scraps. We all have them right?! Some of us more than we need. Not mentioning any names or anything. lol Ok it's me!!! I swear I use my scraps all the time so why is it that they feel like they are mulitplying? Anyway my card uses the Cricut cart Calligraphy for the heart. I used my Gypsy and hide the outline line of the heart to get just the inside heart and then hide the inside line to get just the outside of the heart. Kinda like my shadow because this didn't have a shadow. I also welded the support ribbon from Stand and Salute to the inside heart and just placed a pale pink piece of card stock behind the opening and using some clear crystal I outline my support ribbon. My believe came from My Pink Stamper set of stamps. I also place 5 pearls on the left top and lower right sides of the card. Of course I used all scraps for this card except for the base, but still have a ton of scraps left. I just hand wrote the inside sentiment and used a Martha Steward punch for the heart border. I think that about covers it. You can see the tutorial on how to make the background design with paper scraps here. Thanks for looking!

Dad!
This week at Sweetsassydiva we are celebrating Dads. I'm very blessed to have such a wonderful man to be the "Dad" of my kids. He is amazing and I literally thank God for him every day. Making cards, layouts, or anything basically with a masculine feel is a challenge for me. It may have something to do with the fact that I have 5 daughters, and 1 poor boy surrounded by us. Pink and flowery just comes more natural. So for this card I started scouring magazines, websites and so on looking for something to scraplift. I mainly lifted the colors more so than anything. I chose blues, and stripes. They seemed "manly" enough ;) I layed everything out with my gypsy and got it all cut at one time. I used the calligraphy collection cartridge for my tags and for the "Happy Father's Day" and I used George and Basic Shapes for the "DAD" I used DCWV neutral stack (gray) for the card base, and the smaller tags (1 1/2 in), Latte stack for the striped frame, and white and black misc. scraps for the larger tag (1 3/4 in) I inked all edges of the base, striped paper and tags in dark blue. I layered my tags and centered the letters on them. I used small brads at the top for some extra color. (I don't have a paper piercing tool so I used my cricut tools...they work great) I used foam dots to raise the tags just a bit for added dimension. Then to finish the card I added my greeting on the inside. and the finished project looks like.............
Thanks for stopping by. Make sure that you give all of the "Dad's" in your life a huge hug. They deserve them!

Fairy Princess!
This week at sweetsassydiva we were challenged with a Disney theme. I happened to also be having a little girl's birthday this week. So I combined them and made a "fairy princess" banner, which is what was requested. I did not use any Disney cartridges for this, however the princess part can be tailored to fit any Disney Princess, according to color, and such.
So here we go....
I started with pastel cardstock for the crown's....I laid it out on my gypsy...this is one project that took a lot of layers on it.
I used the Once Upon a Princess Cartridge for the majority of my cuts. After cutting out the crowns (shift lock, font) I used scraps of different colored paper on the back to "color in" the openings...I then glittered the letters with a clear glitter to add some shine, and then decorated the crown with a bit of glitter for the gems. (If time would have allowed I would have cut the gem figure out which is also on the Once Upon a Princess Cartridge)
The fairies were cut in different colors, and their flags wave in different directions so that they can carry the banner for me.
I didn't want to do the same ribbon tie up banner that I usually do, I wanted something a bit different. I decided since it was fairies, and they live in the trees, that leaves and vines would be better. I used my gypsy and welded some vines together that were on the Calligraphy Cartridge. I used some flowers from Accent Essentials, and butterflies from Once Upon a Princess.
Then I could put the girls to work carrying the banner....the finished banner turned out really cute.

For that sportsman in your life!
It's time to honor Father's this week. We were asked to design something for this special day this week. I wanted to make a card, but also wanted something different as well. I borrowed this idea from a friend and tweaked it into a card, but could be used as a quick picture book, or scrapbook for any special occasion or person.
As always I gathered what I thought I would use in the project, but this one became an adventure to the tool shed and tackle box.
The first step was to make the pages. I used Plantin schoolbook cartridge for the rectangle and the letters and welded them together. I'm sure you could use any cartridge and font for this to fit your theme. I welded a 9.5x4 in rectangle to a 1.5x4in letter. I spelled out the word DADDY for my card.
I alternated between plain and print cardstock on the letters. I used Colorbok printed cardstock (I think I bought it 10 yrs ago) and for the plain I used DCWV neutral and autumn stacks. After all of the pieces were cut I laid them out to make sure they lined up. Then for me the "fun" part began...that is sarcasm because I hate cutting by hand.
I didn't take any pictures of this unfortunately so bear with me on an explanation. I had to cut the layers down so that they would all fit into a book. I laid the back piece (without a letter) down, and placed the last page on top of that; lined it up to where I wanted it to lay, flipped it over and drew a line to mark where it needed to be cut. I then cut it with a paper cutter. You do this with each layer. Each page from bottom up gets smaller and smaller. The top page I left room to fold over and make a binding for the book. I then inked all of the edges with gold ink. Then to the fun part the decorating.
This entire card came to mind because of this fish....the elusive (for hubby) King salmon. I cut him out using the wildlife cartridge at 4.5 in. He's a big fish so I wanted him to take up the entire front. I also cut the layers for him. I used stampendous clear ink and covered both pieces entirely, then I used stampendous pink embossing powder for the bottom layer and stampendous silver for the top layer....used my heat tool on them to finish them, glued the layers together and then set them aside.
It was then time to assemble the book. I placed all of the layers together, folded the binding part over and clipped it on 3 sides so that none of them slipped.
I then grabbed my piercing tool (a hammer, nail, and piece of wood) and pierced the paper 1 inch down and 1 inch up on the side. I then used the same wood and hammer as I added 2 eyelets to secure the pages a bit better.
At this point I added the sentiment inside each page which the entire card reads; DADDY You will always be our King, Happy Father's Day. I decorated with stickers from Jolees Boutique, and ribbon to look like fishing lures. It still looked a little plain so I added fishing line around all of the letters and hooked it into the fishes mouth. I will add what the *recipe* is at the end of the pictures....this is the inside of the card.

Thank you for Serving!
This week we were asked to create something for Memorial Day. Being a military family this isn't just about ringing in summer with bbq's but being thankful for those who gave us the freedom to be able to do so. I wanted to take this opportunity to personally thank one of my heroes, my sister. She not only is a great sister, mom, aunt, she is also a member of the USAF and has been serving for 16 years now. I'm so proud of all of her accomplishments, and am thankful that she is willing to serve for our country....so onto the project....
I gathered my papers, which were from the DCWV Nantucket Stack (I love this stack am going to have to buy another one!), my paper cutter, faulty ruler (ask Jen), some buttons and my gypsy.
I used George & Basic Shapes to cut the star at 4 in.
I cut "Thank You" from Calligraphy at 1.25 in, and I welded for serving from Calligraphy and cut it at 2 in.
For the base of the card I cut a 6x12 in the blue plaid, and another 6x6 in plaid.
The red frame is a 5x5in cut from DCWV Neutrals stack.
I decided to make this an easel card, so I folded the 6x12 in half, and then folded one side in half again. I then assembled the front of the card before gluing it to the base.
I inked all edges of the plaid, red and the star with Navy blue ink to cover the white edges, and to blend the pieces together a bit. I centered the star on the red mat, and then centered that on my 6x6 plaid front.
The words were a bit to bright as plain white, so I took a sandy colored ink stamper and smudged it just enough to give it an off color. Once these were all glued into place I took a wooden button and threaded it with embordiery floss.
On the base I added another red frame, and the "for serving" wording. I used two wooden star buttons, with blue buttons in order to hold the easel into place.
So there is my card, simple, but filled with pride in the one I'm sending it too.

Happy Mother's Day....Week!
Now, why shouldn't it be a celebration all week!? Here at SweetSassyDiva we are celebrating it longer than just a day!
- SweetSassyDiva
We were asked to make something for Mother's Day this week at SweetSassyDiva so, I thought I would make a simple card for my sisters, both who are great mom's.
I laid out all of my supplies and cut the papers according to the mat on my gypsy...and began to cut.
I used Christmas Cards cartridge to cut out the card, and then rounded the corners with my punch, the center was plantain schoolbook, and then Happy Mother's Day come from the calligraphy cartridge.
I inked the edges of the centerpiece, glued it to the face of the card, added my ribbon and button...also the gems on the one and the Happy Mother's Day to complete the simple cards. I really liked how they turned out. Now just to mail them...that is an even bigger accomplishment for me.

Basket full of....
This week we were asked to make something either including Easter or Earth day. I chose Easter. Since I had seen Jen's easel card I wanted to try and make one....so this is my attempt at easel cards.
Then all that was left was to make the "stand" for the easel, which was more sparkly grass (ribbon) and another Easter egg set up on pop dots.....I really like the colors and how they came together with this card. It's bright and cheery and I hope that the one that I send it to enjoys it....until next week!
I laid out the pieces I wanted on my gypsy, and then picked out my colors. (I always tend to start with one thing and end up somewhere else.)
I then cut out the paper according to the gypsy...it's one reason why I love it so much I waste so much less paper.
After cutting all of the pieces and parts. I started arranging and rearranging pieces to make the Easter basket.
After having a little bit of sparkle for the grass I attached the eggs, some self stick dots and ribbon to dress it up a bit.
I had cut out Happy Easter but it looked a bit plain. So I glitzed (is that a word) it up a bit with my embosser and some shiny blue embossng powder. Then all that was left was to make the "stand" for the easel, which was more sparkly grass (ribbon) and another Easter egg set up on pop dots.....I really like the colors and how they came together with this card. It's bright and cheery and I hope that the one that I send it to enjoys it....until next week!

Picture Frame!
I would love to introduce our newest sweetsassydiva designer to you.
Her first post can be seen by clicking here!
Here is Angie's intro in her own words:
"I have been married to a wonderful sailor for the past 19 years, and we just started the retirement process. (making me old already ;) ) We have 6 children, that I homeschool. The oldest is 18 the youngest is 4 months. We are retiring here in Alaska, a dream I've had for years. I'm originally from the south, so it's been a culture shock for me. I'm very much into a back to the basics lifestyle, where I am learning to make things by hand or using what I have before rushing out to buy new. I've been a crafter for 19 years now...(it started with my first pregnancy). I cross stitch, crochet, scrapbook, plastic canvas, and am starting to dive into card making, altering objects, hand spinning, and I want to learn to knit. Out of all of them I think scrapbooking has been the most rewarding for me because I can look back through cherished memories, and when I do them as gifts I know I'm passing memories along with them as well as a part of me.
I think that is about all there is about me. A southern girl trying to make it in the frozen north ;) Oh my blog is farmtobe@blogspot.com "
I love lavender, so much that it's the color I've used in the majority of my decorating in my little girls room. It's time I started to add things into the room for Bailey now....so we are starting with her own picture frame.
I gathered up what I thought I would use for this project and got started with my gypsy.
I covered the frame with lavender (pastel purple) from the DCWV pastel stack and then trimmed the inside with ribbon. (Next to cardstock ribbon is my addiction) Then to make the flowers. I picked a pattern from the DCWV blossom song stack and added a touch of sparkle. While they dried, I started my cutting and glittering.
After gluing and gluing some more all the pieces were put into place and now I have an adorable frame to put a picture in. It has to be adorable when you are putting baby pictures in them!
