It is always a treat getting together for preschool with our friends. This last week at my friend, Camie’s house was an especially sweet day!
We spent the morning learning, playing, singing … and eating cookies!
- C is for Cookie Monster coloring page
- Print the coloring pages above to color.
- Point out that C is for Cookie and C is for Cookie Monster!
- Sign Language – Letter C
- Have the kids make a letter C shape with their hands.
- Use this sign language as you sing the song below!
- Sing C is for Cookie Song
- This is a fun song from Cookie Monster on Sesame Street. Click the image above to see the song and video on YouTube.
- Sing the song with the kids:
C is for Cookie, that’s good enough for me! C is for Cookie, that’s good enough for me! C is for Cookie, that’s good enough for me, Oh! Cookie, Cookie, Cookie starts with C! |
- Read “The ABCs of Cookies” … what a perfect book to lead us from Cookie Monster into the rest of our cookie morning. My friend, Camie, found this book at Dollar Tree! Amazon does have copies available here.
- Cookie Memory Game … I loved this activity to introduce our next book!
- Before reading “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” place several items from the book on a tray. Some ideas:
- a glass of milk (play food)
- a cookie (play food)
- roll of tape
- straw
- napkin
- box of crayons
- a pen
- a piece of paper
- Let the kids look at the items for a minute.
- Place a cloth over the tray.
- Ask the kids to name an item they remember, then pull it out and show them!
- Who Took the Cookie From the Cookie Jar Game
- Use this Oreo Matchin’ Middles game. I found ours at Goodwill for $2. I’ve seen it at Wal-Mart and Target. Amazon has it here.
- Sing “Who Took the Cookie From the Cookie Jar”
- Take turns choosing one cookie from the Oreo cookie jar.
- Open it up and name the shape inside!
- Repeat the song and game for each of the kids or until the cookies are gone!
- Lots of Dots Chocolate Chip Cookies … loved this! So many learning activities going on with this one project.
- Print out a page with “If I had a plate of cookies I would ______” written at the bottom. Or simply write it by hand.
- Use a glue stick to glue a large brown “cookie” to the page. If you have time, let the kids cut out their own circle.
- Let the kids use a brown do-a-dot marker (available here) to add as many chocolate chips to their cookies as they like.
- Let them answer the question at the bottom, “If I had a plate of cookies I would…”
- Then count up the chocolate chips together!
And while your cookies are baking…
- Online Storytime … I just found this online storytime from Barnes & Noble. I love it! They have several stories read by the authors and have been adding a new book each month. I thought it was so fun to actually hear the authors read their own book.
- Go here.
- The available books are listed at the bottom.
- Click on “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” (or any of them!) and listen to Laura Numeroff read her book!
