- Play with a jump rope.
- Play with a jack-in-the-box if you have one. Count how many turns of the handle it takes to make Jack jump!
- Jumping Jack Coloring
- Print out and color the jack-in-the-box coloring page below.
- Finish by writing a letter J inside the star.
- If the kids are full of energy, put the crayons at one end of the room and have them JUMP to get one crayon, then JUMP back to color with it. Repeat for each color
- Be a Jack-in-the-Box
- Let the kids get into a large cardboard box with a lid.
- Pretend to turn the handle.
- Sing the tune to "Pop Goes the Weasel" (click the link for music) and let the kids “POP” out!
- Count down from 10 to 1, then jump as high as you can.
- Have Jumping Races
- in a pillowcase
- 3-legged race
- jump backwards
- one foot
- big & little jumps
- loud jumps & quiet/tip-toe jumps
- Play leapfrog
- Stand in a line, one person behind the next.
- Everybody crouches down, while the last person puts their hands on each back and leaps over each person in line.
- Then they crouch down in front and the new last person leaps.
- Leap Frog Lily Pad Game
- On different colored foam craft paper, cut out 10 large lily pad shapes (see above).
- With a black Sharpie marker, write large, bold numbers from 1-10 on each lily pad.
- Lay the lily pads out on the ground.
- Have the kids leap from 1-10 like a frog
- OR … turn the lily pads over and leap to certain colors!
- Froggie Leap Game
- Make a simple game board with a start & end
- Using plastic frogs as markers, roll a die to see who can reach the end first.
- If you land on the same square as someone else, LEAP over them.
- Watch Letter Factory, by Leapfrog … This is a great 30 minute DVD about Tad, Leap & Lilly who are at their father’s letter factory. Tad tours all of the alphabet rooms learning the letter sounds and realizes he isn’t too little to learn his letters. My kids love this one and it really helped them learn their letter names and sounds.
- Print out, color & trace … click on one of the coloring pages above from Twisty Noodle. I love these because you can customize the text!
snack idea: Lily pad bagels … tint cream cheese green & spread on a bagel. Serve with a plastic frog on top.
- Do exercises each day this week!
- Go to the mall & ride the elevators & escalators (look for E's while you're there)
- Teach the kids a new kind of exercise ... kids yoga, hula hoops, jump rope, dancing
snack idea: water & fruit
- On a rainy day, try an indoor obstacle course! ... Arrange carpet squares, a table, large hoola hoops, and two parallel tape lines. Taking turns, the kids can hop on each carpet square, crawl under the table, jump in each hoop, and move through the lines.
- Cut out two different shapes depending on your theme/holiday (apple & school bus ... pumpkin & ghost ... green dinosaur & purple dinosaur, etc). Assign each cutout a different dance move. Play fun, upbeat music. Hold up one shape, then the other and let the kids boogie to the different dance moves (jump up & down, wiggle their hips, stomp, spin, wiggle their hands).
