Paul McCartney 1989-09-28 Scandanavium Gothenberg, Sweden(PMWT 008)

 Paul McCartney 1989-90 Tour
 Gothenberg Sweden
 Source Two Boot CD
 September 28, 1989
 008-PMWT

For years myself and many others were under the impression there was only one source tape for this show. To clarify, by source I am refering to the original master source, not the bootleg source. Some people confuse the issue and like to refer to sources by the boot release when they actually all originate from the same ROIO. In comparing my cassette RIP to the common circulating show for quality I found that they were different tape sources. This post is the latter boot CD release.

This recording I found from several sources, none of which identified the origin of the recording. It's cleary was a RIP of a CD in all cases as they were all identical aside from the fact some had the song titles and some were just labled by track numbers. All sources were clipped so I did a clip restoration on the tracks as well as an automatic phase correction. Made a slight improvement but the original unclipped master would be prefered. Tracks were left named as original.

Paul McCartney & Wings Over Detroit 1976(MCCD144-147)

his super high quality sound is the first appearance, and it is recorded completely for two performances, including "LET 'EM IN"! ... Perhaps Paul's microphone or lighting was not good at first, but the crowd did not get very excited when "VENUS AND MARS" started, and suddenly the cheers got louder at a strange place in the middle of the song. What happened? Unfortunately, the master was missing "Let 'em In" that was supposed to have been played at the time of the tape change, and the next "Time To Hide" was missing, but the main feature here is that it is completely recorded by complementing it with another source on the day. As it is the early days of the tour, MCs are inserted in detail everywhere, the chatter between songs is long, and Paul may be too nervous and talkative. The number one hit in the United States at that time, "Silly Love Songs", made a mistake in the composition of the second half of the song, and it became a mess and was forcibly brought to the ending, becoming an unexpected short version (laughs). Discs 3 and 4 contain the second day of two consecutive performances, and this is also surprising with higher sound quality than the first day. It is strange how they could record with such high sound quality in an era without digital equipment such as DAT and MD. This is also a tense stage unique to the early days of the tour. During "Let Me Roll It," the audience got so excited that they started to go wild, and Paul shouted angrily on the mic, "Sit down! Sit down!", even though the song had already started. The stage progression was also not solidified, and there was a slight mistake where the intro to "Silly Love Songs" started in the middle of the MC, which made it very interesting.

This is Wings' first appearance sound source in 1976 and their first live performance. In addition to the content, the biggest feature of this work is the sound quality. No matter how exaggerated the words used, the sound quality is so amazing that it applies, and it is no exaggeration to say that this is one of the most representative titles of the Wings Over America tour, along with Boston and Toronto. I can't believe that such a high-quality tape has been sleeping until now. I hope you will experience the amazing sound quality full of realism and think back on the Japanese performance that never came to fruition. It is a 4-disc set with a beautiful picture disc specification of a sturdy press board for permanent storage. Comes with a Japanese obi.

Paul McCartney & Wings - Over Houston(MCCD140-141)

This is the Houston performance on May 4, 1976, the first appearance.

This was the second day of Paul's US tour after Fort Worth, his first in 10 years, and it was a very hot stage in a tense atmosphere.

Paul's tours usually start in the countryside and move to larger cities as the schedule progresses, and it is rare for him to suddenly perform in important cities where a large number of media are present. For this year's US tour, New York, Chicago, and the final Los Angeles were located in the latter half of the tour, and this Houston performance was more of a warm-up for those. In that sense, it would not be strange if they were trying various things on the second day of the tour, but since they had toured Europe with almost the same set in the UK and Australia the previous year, and in early 1976, there was nothing special about America, and it felt more like they were checking the reaction.

It goes without saying that the familiar opening that starts quietly, as well as the electric set from "Rock Show" that sparks all at once, was wonderful. With an acoustic set in between and an electric set to close, this well-balanced set is connected to the current stage, allowing you to enjoy Paul's diverse musicality.

The sound quality is so good that it's hard to believe it's his first appearance. It's not as clear as Boston, Toronto, or Detroit, but it has a warm, analog sound quality that is calm and calm, and there are no noisy customers around, so it can be said to be of high quality.

The content is almost perfect, with cuts in "Medicine Jar" and "Maybe I'm Amazed," but other than that there are no noticeable omissions and the stage is almost completely recorded. There are many highlights in this concert, such as "My Love," which has a long piano intro due to a missed timing, and "Silly Love Songs," where the PA balance is still poor at the beginning of the tour and Linda's keyboard sounds stand out.

Paul McCartney & Wings' Houston performance on the second day of their US tour is recorded in high quality. This is a permanently preserved, solid press edition with a beautiful picture disc specification.

 Paul McCartney World Tour
 Drammenshallen, Drammen (Oslo) Norway
 September 26, 1989
 006-PMWT

This is the opening night of the tour which took place in front of about 5,000 fans. Track listing was pretty much set but there is a slight change with 'Back In The U.S.S.R' and 'I Saw Her Standing There' moving up a few tracks. The Fats Domino track 'Ain't That A Shame' was left off this night. There is a tape flip before ISHST and the begining is missing. There is only one recording source for this show and all releases stem from this same recording. This transfer is cleaner then the boot releases I've heard.

There is also a bonus recording of Press Conference coverage from Norwegian Radio. It's just short snippits of PC bits mixed with studio recordings. There is some talking at the end of the tape that I can't decode, if anyone could translate it would be appreciated.

Paul McCartney 1989-09-21 Elstree Film Studios (Dress Rehearsal)(PMWT-005)

 Paul McCartney
 Elstree Film Studios (Dress Rehearsal)
 September 21, 1989
 005-PMWT

The band spent a few weeks in September 1989 at Elstree film studios rehearsing the show before concluding with this full dress rehearsal in front of an audience of about 750 spectators. This recording has the taper arriving a bit late as FOE has already started and there is a missing bit from a tape flip right before LIB.

This show has appeared on various boots over the years but they all originate from the same tape source. One which makes me laugh, "Party Crashers", that claims it is from the original master and is the best quality available. Needless to say it's not.

 Paul McCartney
 1989-90 Tour
004-PMWT-Lyceum Theater Pre-Show and Press Conf
 August 24, 1989

On this date Paul and the band took up residence at the historic Lyceum Theater in New York City for the day. A short pre-show for the press, followed by a press conference and then a rehearsal performance lat er that evening. The Pre-Show and Press Conference were captured here as broadcast on WNEW-FM in New York. Resident DJ at WNEW Scott Muni (who refers to the album as "Flowers in the Dust")had a regular afternoon show which always launced with a Beatles track or two. This day Scott was broadcasting from the theater to provide us with a glimps of what took place inside. While the Press Conference was apparently broadcast nation-wide on the Westwood One radio Network, the balance of what is contained here was a WNEW exclusive. The Press Conference does end short on this broadcast but I have never been able to confirm if more was included on the Westwood One broadcast. So if anyone knows please speak up. There is also a bootleg release of this material on Phantom Records but it is not as complete.

The final track in this collection is a Capital Records promo interview which was also recorded from the theater this day.

Paul McCartney 1989-07-26 London Playhouse Theater (Rehearsal) London, England(PMWT-001)

Hard to believe but it is 30 years since Paul McCartney set out on his first world-wide solo tour. To me it seems like it was only yesterday. Just over a decade ago I was working on a collection of the Wings 1975-76 world tour and I thought, "sometime in the future I'll do the complete 89-90 tour". Well that got here a lot faster than anticipated.
In the same spirit as the earlier Wings tour this collection I will pool all the shows from the 89-90 tour along with relevant press conferences, radio interviews and such associated with the tour.  I had collected at the time all the shows (in cassette format of course) with many being low generation and a few masters. Now many have not been touched or played in 30 years, so hopefully they survived the test of time. And if we are lucky, I will finish this before it’s the 30’s anniversary of the New World Tour.  I would also like to sneak in some Ringo in between if possible. Now I’m not going to bother with creating artwork, I’ll leave that to someone else and just concentrate on the music, that in and of itself is enough work.
Here we have the first in the series, the first of two rehearsal shows from London's Playhouse Theater, enjoy.
