Announcement (sic):
A Whole Lotta Power Going On Deluxe Digipack 2 CD set features over 2,5 hours of incredible cuts!

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Elvis June/September recordings in Nashville, where other labels only re-re (re) release the same over and over CMT continues their 'Power' series with this third instalment, after last year's "Ghetto Power" and the first release "Stax Power" this release had to be done and might be the best one yet!

Again the editing on this album makes all songs "blend in" so you will get the feeling as if you are in the actual session, with lots of rare snippets and surprises.
All tracks from the "Nashville 1970 Sessions "have been included in this 2 CD set, with clever spliced takes for a whole new experience.

Lots of works went into this and a lot of the tracks sound so different, you almost think it is all brand new!
Because the producers wanted something really new, and wanted to start rocking from scratch! They decided not to give you a chronicle order tracklist like the previous volumes.

Just listen to the incredible new spliced version of "Patch It Up" (10!! Splices) extended versions of  "There Goes My Everything" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and clever edits of undubbed tracks with final masters like "Little Cabin on the Hill" and "Heart of Rome"

1970 has to be one of the best years for Elvis... you can hear it... you can SEE it, although we do agree with the "Never judge a book (CD or dvd) by it's cover" expression, seeing this cover makes you want it even more and it sure has "A Whole Lotta Power Going On!"

Tracks 5 - 19 St-Petersburg , FL. Feb. 14th - 1977
Tracks 20-24 Charlotte , NC. Feb. 21st - 1977

CD-2 mainly focuses on Elvis in St. Petersburg , February 14 - 1977. Like the other CD releases from this period , also this one is incomplete. Disc 2 closes with tracks from Charlotte , February 21 - 1977 of which most are released before. Said to be from another source.
In between these main attractions , the end of disc 1 and the start of disc 2 will feature a total of 9 cuts from Forth Worth , June 3 - 1976.

Concert:  See comments for the Lake Charles show on "Lake Charles (Turn Around , Look At Me)" where we have an audience recording of this show.

The show in St. Petersburg offers nothing special. Pure average with Elvis just doing his routine. Vocally it was o.k. (Ciscoking)

ELVIS PRESLEY

1977-05-03 (may 3rd)
*LIBERATED BOOT, The Final Curtain disc 4*

source: unreleased soundboard
length: approx. 46min. + bonustracks
quality: Very nice

Here´s another unreleased soundboard from the awesome Final Curtain boxset. The sound on Saginaw is very nice, although I can understand from some crackling of the sourcetape why it´s not fit for an official release. Noone interested in this rollercoaster of a year for the King will be disappointed though.

The bonustracks are all very nice too, especially the first Chicago My Way, probably one of the finest renditions I have ever heard.

Four tracks were released officially on the FTD-release Spring Tours 1977, and have been omitted

Saginaw:
1. That´s all right
2. Trouble
3. I got a woman / Amen
4. Love me

13. O sole mio (sung by Sherrill Nielsen) / It´s now or never
14. Love me tender
15. Why me lord?

Notes

Digipak release.

As with all shows of the winter season in Las Vegas, Elvis did not enter the stage for the midnight show until 1 am on December 4. The preliminary program started around midnight. So we continue to list the show on December 3th, 1976

Press note:
As the final month of 1976 rolled around, Elvis arrived in Las Vegas for what would be his 15th and final visit as a performer, playing 15 concerts to some very mixed press reviews. By all accounts, health and weight issues had unfortunately contributed to a lowering of the very high standards Elvis had once embraced as a live artist. Still, the fans always came, and sometimes Presley showed more than a hint of the magic that made him the greatest singer of all.

On this collection are the second and third appearances of the ten-day stand, and Elvis is in quite good form, including seasonal favorite "Blue Christmas" along with favorites like "Tryin' To Get To You", "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "America the Beautiful" and the powerhouse gospel of "How Great Thou Art". As always, his rendition of "Hurt" is thrills both audiences. It was a Friday night to for any fan to savor throughout the holiday season. As fans have come to expect, the recordings are of very good audio quality, sourced from original master tapes recorded by British super-fan "Gemini.” The double digipak is filled with liner notes and photos from both shows that December 3rd. Again, these recordings have been carefully engineered to be presented in the best possible sound.

Notes The Straight Arrow 2CD set „DOIN‘ THE BEST I CAN”, featuring two shows recorded on February 16. Most Elvis experts agree that the „post Aloha“ winter engagement was his weakest up to that point. Perhaps his inner turmoils played a role, but a rather severe throat infection most definitely did. It was so serious that midnight shows on Feb. 13, 14 and 15 ended up getting cancelled and dinner shows were performed against doctors advice. At some of the shows it was clear that the infection seriously hampered his ability to sing. Still, being the professional that he was, he tried to do the best he could. This is also what you will hear on the previously unreleased concerts from this engagement on this new Straight Arrow release. Presented in truly excellent audience-recorded audio, they give us interesting insights of Elvis at work under trying circumstances. His voice is not at its best here, his condition prevents him from firing on all cylinders, but still he’s giving solid and professional shows. And that’s one element that certainly deserves to be acknowledged more than it is today.

The February 16, 1973 concerts are taken directly from original „booth recorded tapes.“ The Feb. 16, 1973 D/S was previously released („A DINNER AT THE HILTON“, 2007 and „I'M A STEAMROLLER BABY“, 2008) from an inferior audience recorded source. These CD have nothing to do with Straight Arrow’s excellent „booth tape“ version! The Feb. 16 1973 M/S is a completely new show, even for die-hard Elvis fans. It has never been in circulation - in any form! These tapes were rediscovered recently and we believe that you will agree with us that this is another great find. A real must - not just for the hardcore collector. Another quality Straight Arrow release! (press note, January 2015)
