Show Notes:
There were plenty of 'negative documentation experiences" associated with this show, but out of respect for TMS, will keep those to myself.
As for the show, it's maybe 0.2% behind Baltimore in regards to the onstage product.
A 2 hour 20 minute tour-de-force (mainly due to show closer "Thorn In My Pride"), the band had the Philly crowd eating out of their hands.
And it *was* a good crowd...an easy 500-600 people were soaking up all the goodness in the room.
The highlights were many, and low points virtually non-existent.
If you need confirmation of this, check out "Tied Up & Swallowed", "Every Picture Tells A Story", "Comin' Home", "Girl From The North Country" (Marc & Rich solo acoustic, btw), "The Giving Key", and, yet again, the last 5 songs of the show. (which was a swirling storm of riffage and wreckage).
Sorry for the shownotes brevity, but I'm typing this here in Connecticut, at 7:40pm, and TMS is about to hit the stage in 30 minutes. (there's only so many hours in a day)/
Keep your (CR)B squad Chris...Rich has Marc Ford :D
Oh yeah, thank Dennis, and just tell me to fuck off, as it's food for my soul.
And also, thanks to longtime Crowes fan Mike Wolf for the use of the CA mics. He's a saint and a scholar.

Show Notes:
I remember seeing the setlist for this one at 4 PM and being "disappointed" for some reason...but then The Magpie Salute started playing the songs...
I had more than one fan come up early-on during and ask "What's wrong with John?", and it turns out his mother had passed away earlier in the day.
In that spirit, this show is dedicated to John Hogg's mother, and I am going to refrain from coloring your judgement on this performance and instead let you hear the proceedings without my normal run-on verbiage.
That he was able to come out and perform for the fans, and finish the tour, is both a testament and a statement to how *great* music is food for the soul.
He's a very humble guy, and I give him full kudos for stepping into gnome shoes and turning them into giant boots. She raised a hell of a son, and his take on the Crowes songs I find both refreshing and exciting...that he can hit obscure (and not-so-obscure) covers out of the park as well, it's just great that this music is back out on the road again, and not in casinos, shopping malls and state fairs.
Hopefully these following recordings will show you (i.e. let you hear) the same.
HUGE thanks to the DO'er of "all things Magpie", that being the inimitable Dennis Orr. There is a double-gatefold album signed by all with personal thanks from Rich and Marc with your name on it, my friend.
I'ma just gonna keep getting under your skin and fingernails, as it's what I do best.

Show Notes:
This was a lean (under 2 hours), mean show on numerous levels...with show notes to match.
When the band opens with "Halfway To Everywhere", you just know deep down it's gonna be a no-nonsense affair, and they backed up that assessment in spades just 3 songs in.
A full-blown RAWK show, with a 2-for-Tuesday-back-to-back Zeppelin two-fer, expertly mixed with deep cuts like "Paint An 8" and "Song Of The Flesh", this show popped Connecticut in the face like a 5 ton bong hit to the cilia in yer lungs.
Or, this show is a PERFECT example of how far this band has come in such a short time.
It was a HUGE pleasure to meet "Big Vic" from the Mud board for the first time, and his hospitality (and internets, and comfy accomodations) was what enabled me to quickly upload both the audio and video promptly, so when you're ***thanking Dennis*** (HINT HINT) for his skills that pay the bills, be sure to give Vic a shout-out too. It'd been 15 years in the making, and both of them are salt-of-the earth folks.
Which (that being 'salt') makes a GREAT sprinkle for the "fuck off" that I'm expecting for the likes of me...

Show Notes:
I can NOT say enough good things about this show, from the staff at Rams Head LIVE (yes, caps are necessary) to the setlist to the venue itself, this show was full blown magic on NUMEROUS levels.
From the "Black Moon Creeping" opener to my personal highlights (that being the middle/end of "Evil Eye" and Nick dueling with Marc during "Laila Pt. 2", and, of course, an onstage shout out to "Steve from Alaska" by none other than Riff Robinson himself before the encore), I could gush like a little girl in a My Little Pony store about all of what went down this night:
--- "Walk Believer Walk" was just filthy good
--- "Maybe I'm Amazed" > "Black Coffee"...seriously???!!! An utter joy to watch go down
--- "How Much For Your Wings?"...delicate where necessary, and like a 10-ton heavy thing to where it hurts the most.
--- "Glad & Sorry"...it's a perfect example of how this band makes a cover their 'own'.
--- and, yet again, the last 5 songs...even "Soul Singing", were a perfect bow on the gift they gave us
Anyhow, allow your earholes to back up what I've said up top.
This show was a balls-out Rich-heavy RAWK SHOW.
Which is as it should be
Dennis is THE MAN. He's been waiting patiently for me to do my thing, and I've finally found an hour (and an internet connection) here in fairfield to do what I do best. Throw him some "grazie"...as he fully ***deserves it***.
This camper will stick to pissing them off, one by one (but hey, it's better than being PISSED ON, riiiiiiiiight???)

Mastering Notes:
The first approximately 1:26 of the show was missing - that's the 55 seconds of the "Intro Music", and the first 31 seconds of "Omission". To make this show complete I spliced in the corresponding music from the 2017-11-10 show in Baltimore.
Show Notes:
This was a hell of a "first show back". Soundcheck was hot (with more new riffs being jammed on), and the show even hotter.
I landed in Newark (out of Chicago, which was due to visiting my sweetie), and had a 500 mile drive to Rocky Mount (ok, 470), and a 2 hour stop with a dear friend from the Tesla message board days sammiched in the middle. I drove until the rain started pouring and there were dead deer on the side of the road every few miles, then decided it was time to call it a night
The venue was tiny, which inhibited the "vidcam overkill" that I specialize in, but I was still able to place a vidcam in an area to visually document the proceedings. The staff was amazing to work with (unlike Philly...more on that later). A highly recommended venue in the "middle of nowhere" along the Blue Ridge Parkway (which was a beautiful drive).
And as for the show itself, I gotta say ANY show that has "Bitter Bitter You" in the 4-slot vs. "Omission" is definitely a treat...the Ballad > Wiser midsection was a searing showcase for Riff and Effing to do what they do best, which is take you to another place.
"Hitchcock Railway" and "Goin' Down South" were showcases as well, showing how much this band has gelled and tightened up since January.
And they could have just played the last 5 songs and "dropped the mic" and all would have been good in the world.
It's been a treat to watch these guys do their thing over these last couple months. I have filmed shows with up to 7 cameras (Baltimore), and have settled on the 5 digicams for sure, with maybe some Hi8 action in the En Why Cee...
More later...SO MUCH more
Oh yeah, thank Dennis, for both his skills and his patience with moi. It's taken me until now (at soundcheck in Fairfield, which is being filmed as well) to have the time to whip up the verbiage which I'm semi-famous for at this point.
I'ma gonna keep fucking off, as that's what I do best.

Show Notes:
Where, oh-motherfucking-where to begin?
It was a 150 minute bacchanal of ree-donkulous proportions.
To start, my taping location - I was told "security screwed up" by letting us tape from there the night previous. NOTHING was to be on the railing, the ledge, or anything of the sort.
Well, seeing as how I don't like "no" for an answer, I escalated it to the manager of the Fillmore, and while she's not a fan of anything on the railing or duct tape, I was able to win her over with my story about buying "residue free duct tape" (vs. gaffers tape), and when she rubbed her hand on the table after I removed it, her stance softened, and we were allowed to tape from upstairs (above the crowd...remember Jimmy Page and his mic placement), which I was reminded again, NO ONE is allowed to do.
Yeah, ok, whatever...
As for the show, I'll just nutshell the highlights...(not in any particular order, chronological or otherwise) 'cuz y'all are gonna muddy your Michael Morgan's when you hear what went down tonight...
--- Gone as an opener
--- Ten Years Gone
--- a ridiculous Blackwaterslide, which Led Zeppelin's "White Summer/Black Mountain Side" is based on
--- acoustic Feathers, that was as delicate as it was sexy
--- guest sax from a Tower Of Power guy on a *sick* version of War Drums
--- a 20 minute Thorn In My Pride, best version I've seen in 20+ years
--- Miserable > Bitter Bitter You > Another Roadside Tragedy
--- No Speak No Slave finale
Did I mention it was right at 2.5 hours? ;) ;) ;)
All that said, there are two *ginormous* thank yous for this one.
Firstly, a HUGE thanks to Anderson O and his wife for putting up with my near-fish like tendencies for a couple days (yeah, that stink of Alaska). Not only did he provide me with a comfy sofa bed to lay my head on in the heart of SF, but he led me to cool, local restaurants, and provided me even with *safe*, free guest parking. I could puff away to my hearts content without worrying about junkie hands reaching for my pipe.
Simply put, without him, you'd not be hearing any captures from me (hopefully) in Sacramento, Santa Cruz and Fresno, as he saved me literally hundreds of dollars with his humble kindness.
If you don't thank him, you have no decency.
Speaking of thanks, his name is Dennis, and he cleared his mothafuckin' plate to make sure that the turnarounds on these shows will be prompt. tThe time he spends working my garbage into a listenable form should not be underestimated, nor should it be ignored with a "snatch and run".
A simple "thanks Anderson and Dennis" is all that is being asked for.
As for me, I'm used to fucking off, so hit me with your best shot.
Just north of Sacramento now, batteries charging and files a dumping...
What is in store for tomorrow?
We soon shall see

All good things must come to a (temporary) end....in that spirit:
Thank you Rich Robinson for taking what you hear in your head out on the road, and allowing me to document as much of it as (sub)humanly possible
Thank you Marc Ford for "coming back into the fold" and making us clean again
Thank you John Hogg for stepping into gnome shoes and turning them into Magpie Boots with both your words and the heart you put into them
Thank you Sven Pipien for laying down a backbone that would do a blue whale proud
Thank you Joe Magistro for matching Sven's notes with your "riddim"
Thank you Nick Chris Matt Eddie Rosen for the notes in the middle. Meant in the highest regard
Thank you Nico Bereciartua for handling the "new guy" role with grace and dignity
Thank you Charity White for breathing new life into old classics, and adding depth and range
Thank you Katrine Ottosen for the dirty harp when it's necessary, and your big smile
Thank you Adrien Reju for being in the middle of all that onstage madness, yet ringing through it pure
Thank you Drew Consalvo for keeping your bangsnap crew (Doug, Randy, et al) in line, and laughing all the time
Thank you Martina for controlling the chaos of a months-long tour
Thank you The Magpie Salute for honoring your past, and looking towards the future
Thank you Dennis for your super-human uploading skills, and ability to satiate the masses
Thank you Anderson for taking on the underpants I collected to turn them into "visual profit" (read: free music for the fans)
Thank you to nearly every production manager in every city who worked with this strange Alaskan and made the documenting as fun and easy as possible
Thank you Mike Wolf for the use of the CA-14's from Madison on, as my Sonics deck had write timeout errors a few different times when the 24 bit files filled up, so the CA sources are complete
Thank you to all the fans who donated at a low point during (my budget), and with their quick donations allowed both NYC shows to be filmed with a single fluid-head tripod ($250 a cam x 2)
Thank you to bt.etree.org and The Traders Den and dimeadozen for being up, running, and facilitating getting this goodness to the fans (and the mods/donors of such sites)
Thank you to any fan or "power-that-be" who "put in a good word for me", and had faith in me to deliver
Fuck Hagar
Those'r the "show notes"

Show Notes:
To start off, in early 2017 I was made aware that my favorite guitar tandem, that being Rich "Riff" Robinson and Marc "Fuckin'" Ford were gonna go back on the road together as "The Magpie Salute". I was interested until I heard the first shows early in the year. The singer, to these ears, "didn't have what it took". I found the shows sloppy, and full of mistakes.
Then fast forward six months...bits and pieces had leaked out since then in interviews and whatnot, like "John rehearsed 175 songs to start this tour" (and I'm sure more since then), and I checked out the 2 Chicago shows from the end of July. And they were pretty damn good, to the point that I made the decision "it's time to go document this shit!"
Soooo, hopefully this is the first installment of *ten* from these mics, decks, and this uploading "team".
I ran 4 decks from the middle left window upstairs, to mostly fantatstic results.
Opening with a sick "My Morning Song" and quickly going into the dirty, swampy tones of "Exit" was a great way to start, and the show just kept building from there. I'll let your ears pick out the highlights, as there are far too many for my feeble mind to name.
What I really like about where they're at 'now' is the simple fact that you know you're gonna get a few Crowes album cuts at the beginning, and a few at the end of the show, but what comprises the "meat" of the proceedings is the large middle portion, where you don't really know what you're gonna get...
Like a short acoustic portion that included "Cursed Diamond" -AND- a somewhat reworked "Spider In The Sugar Bowl Blues"
When it comes to a "deep cut cover", could you get any more obscure than Joe Cocker's "Hitchcock Railway"?
The variation of Marc and Rich solo tunes is also quite a treat.
Anyhow, enough of my ramblebabble, I hope you all enjoy listening to this as much as I enjoyed being there.
Simply put, if anyone deserves a 'salute' in all of this it's the inimitable "Mister O", (that being Dennis). His quick turnaround is to your benefit, and he *deserves* your thanks and praise.
I prolly just deserve a swift kick to the frontbutt, but that's a talk-show for another day...
More to come....oh so much more (did someone say "stable vi-DEE-oh")?
