Seeing Zero

I'm down 3.6 this week! Shocking.  I'm thinking some of that is muscle, as I haven't been weight training at all, but I'm celebrating. It's so nice to see the scale go down after a month or so it not moving.

And, I am now in the zeros! Meaning, I've moved out of the teens and into the zeros. So much closer to getting under 200. (I still cringe to see that I am over 200 pounds. :( )

Another milestone, I've met my first goal of losing 10 pounds and have earned my first reward. I'm calling today to set an appointment for myself and my four year with my hair dresser. I've needed a hair cut for a long while and it's exciting that I've "earned" it. :D  It will be a special treat for the two of us.

  4. Quick question, Tracy...I know you use an online food tracker. Does it keep track of your sugar grams per day? If so, how many does it allow you? Did you come to this number yourself or did it automatically assign it to you? Thanks!!

  5. I use My Food Diary. It does keep track of sugar as well as other nutrients. (which is one reason why I like using this compared to the other free trackers out there) I just checked and it recommends I stay under 40g of added sugars in a day. That is based on my recommended calories for my weight and weight loss goals, I'm sure.

Now, I don't use the tracker as a "guide" per se. I don't really follow the advice on how it tells me to eat because I don't fully agree with their take on nutrition and health. For instance, if I eat just one egg for breakfast, it flags me as too high in sat. fats and cholestorol. Personally, I think those are healthy fats and I'd rather eat real foods than artificial ones (like the egg beaters they'd smile about ;) ). So, I like using it because it tracks what I'm eating but I don't follow it as a "plan" for the most part. I choose my own.

Another example is that I'm working towards low-carb. I talked with a friend who does that and she gave me the goal of 100g of carbs per day. Well, I got down to 137g one day, no grains, just carbs from fruit, vegies and beans. But, I got a Big Ol' Frownie from MFD for being under on my carbs.

So, like everything else, there are many opinions out there and you have to pray and decide which is best for your own body, and lifestyle goals. I find MFD to be a good tool to help me do that because I can use it as I see fit.

    HTH!

  6. Oh, and about my sugar goals: I haven't set an amount to meet or stay under. My goal over the last several years has been to just limit my sugars as much as possible. First limiting refined sugar to almost nothing, then natural sugars and foods that become sugar at a minimum. That's a long journey, but well worth it. So, I don't even really pay attention to my sugars on my tracker b/c I already know when I've had too much. ;) And, I've already established habits that limit my sugar as a general rule. I'm mostly looking at overall calories, protein vs. carbs and fiber. Gotta have my fiber! lol!

  7. Thanks, Tracy. It's amazing how much sugar is just in EVERYTHING. Wow. I use My Fitness Pal. My carbs for the day are 257 total. Doesn't that seem high? My sugar grams are only 37. I was over that by noon today! Yikes. I don't know how they got those numbers but I'm not sure I agree with them. Anyway, I was just curious what the "expert" would say! :o) You are becoming a wise source for me, Tracy! I LOVE it!!

  8. Oh, one more thing I noticed...you said "added sugars." I'm wondering if that does NOT include fruit. Because my apple alone had 16 grams of suagr. What about naturally occuring sugars? And HOW do you know when you've had too much sugar? Just curious what your body says to you?

  9. Sue, I'm thinking I'll make a regular post to talk more about this. I have some of the same questions about how the tracker sites total the sugars and come to their guidlines. I am definitely not an expert! LOL!

Real quick, my body tells me I've had too much sugar with immediate stressors like headaches, feeling shaky, easily irritated, tired and lethargic. Long term issues like skin irritations/break outs, sluggish, mood swings and gaining weight...of course. ;)

It's Valentine's night and I just got Baby doll down for a nap so I'm off to enjoy my Sweetheart. I'll try to think on this and post more tomorrow..I hope! :D

I am enjoying talking this through as well. I think we're all learning from each other. I'm really grateful you leave your thoughts here.
