Prayer
God's Word
Morning 15: 15 minutes of exercise with the children after breakfast clean-up. This typically consists of stretching, push-ups, sit-ups, "Up-Downs" aka stair climbing, jumping jacks and other movement to get our hearts pumping. We set the timer, put on some upbeat music and get moving. Some days the boys will haul wood instead and then we girls will workout to a Ttapp dvd. I'm looking into another workout video that is kid-friendly, but this is working okay for now. I've also been using the Wii Fit or EA Sports Active during this time.
Naptime 15: 15 minute brisk walk with a few kiddos. We head out after the nappers are down. My oldest dd stays home to do some exercise on her own while we head out to see how far we can get in 8 minutes before we need to turn back around and head home. I really enjoy getting out quickly with just the older kids. I LOVE being challenged to walk as quickly as I can. The fresh air is such a great break in the middle of the day. It revives me as I head into the normal afternoon slump. I'm finding that I am getting in some great conversation time with my children as well. That's an added bonus I hadn't counted on.
We've already had a couple of days when it's been so cold, I haven't wanted to go out. (yikes. WHAT am I going to do come January???!) When that happens, I've been able to get on the Wii for 15 minutes of running or some other aerobic activity.
WiiFit - This is a fun program for the whole family. The characters are set up cartoonish and rather silly. My children enjoy watching others workout because they can see themselves in the background. Often we can do a run all together even if only one person is holding the remote. My favorite exercises on the Wii Fit are boxing, the Obstacle Course, Marching, and Step Aerobics. It's not a terribly strenuous workout, but it's fun and gets you moving. I also use it to keep track of my weight right now, as it has a feature that allows you to do body testing and keep track of goals. My scale broke, so this is helpful right now. There are a lot of fun activities that even the littlest ones can do. There are a couple things on there that I've not liked. There is one activity that we haven't even tried but it looks like a new age meditation type thing. Not interested in that. There are some yoga and strength training activities that I don't use often enough. Those you follow a more realistic looking animated person. I find the strength training sessions very challenging. There is a feature to pick set workouts based on what kind of features you want or you can build your own. I've used that before too, and it was fun.
TTapp, Pilates, Cardio Kickboxing, and The Firm workout dvds
YMCA: Cardio machines, strength training machines, family classes and family fun night to keep us moving. We used our Christmas gift money to purchase a family membership and everyone is really enjoying it. Makes for some great family fun, PE credits, and a great date night too. :)
