Saturday Showcase - Cards Made With Stamperia Papers

Hello friends!  I am back on board after spending two wonderful months wandering around the wilds of Alaska and Canada.  Many thanks to Linda and all the design team for filling in for me while I was rejuvenating my soul with the sights of this beautiful land.

Today's spotlight shines on an Italian company, Stamperia.  Their gorgeous products are a favorite of mine so I am delighted to share tutorials to make three different cards with three different lines from Stamperia.  You can find many Stamperia products at The Funkie Junkie Boutique, so be sure to stop by and take a look at all the loveliness!

Let's kick things off with one of my favorite card types, the step card.  I love this card because it stands on its own and has so much dimension.  I used Stamperia's Oriental Garden to make this card.   I have always loved the unique imagery of Oriental art and this collection does not disappoint.

TUTORIAL - Step Card

1.  Cut a step card base, 5 7/8" x 11" from black cardstock.  Click this link, downloadable template, to download the card template so that you can read the measurements.   (If you have a Silhouette Cameo or similar machine you can set the card up on the machine to cut for you and then you'll always have the card base ready to use for other cards and you can adjust the size to your requirements.  Silhouette has a template that you can purchase also.)

The step card looks like this when folded.

2.  Locate the paper shown in the photograph below.  Cut off the white edges all around the page.  Then cut from the bottom sides as shown in the photograph 2 - 1" x 4" strips, from the bottom , a 5 3/4" x 1 1/8" strip and then a rectangle 3 3/8" x 4 3/8".  (All measurements in my tutorials are width x height.) Ink the edges as desired with Distress Black Soot.

3.  Cut out the circle and sentiment shown in the photo.

4.  Adhere the pieces cut in Step 2 as shown. The shorter strips go on the side strips of the fold mechanism, the rectangle goes on the center panel with the longer strip at the bottom.

5. Add dimensional foam to pop up the circle and adhere over the center panel being sure NOT to adhere any part of the circle to the side strips.

6.  Now let's work on the inside of the card.  Cut a piece 5 7/8" x 4 1/8" and a piece 3 3/8" x 1 1/8" and adhere as shown in the below photo to the bottom panel of the card.  Add a silver medallion  in the center as shown.

7.  Oriental Garden includes a nice selection of sentiments, cut one out and adhere to the front left panel as shown.  Use foam tape to pop up the sentiment.  And a pretty bow tied from seam binding or whatever you wish.  Now the card is ready  and is relatively flat so that it can be easily mailed.  

Well, you know me, I put flowers on everything so this is how I chose to finish up the card.

Now let's take a look at Stamperia's Grand Hotel collection. This is a lovely collection filled with vintage images and florals that will take you back to the era of big fancy hotels patronized by finely dressed ladies and dashing gentlemen.

TUTORIAL - A Simple Layered Card

1.  Begin by cutting a cream card base 11 1/4" x 7 1/2", score at 5 5/8".  Then cut a rectangle from the blue floral shown 5 3/8" x 7 1/4".  Cut from the red striped paper a piece 4 3/8" x 6 1/4" (I cut mine with a scalloped die).  Next trim the cut-apart shown from the page of cut-aparts to 3 1/2" x 5 1/2".

2.  Wrap red twin around the cut-apart  and tie on a small charm as shown.

3.  Adhere the red striped paper to the blue floral centering.  Then use foam tape or cardboard on the back of the cut-apart to pop up and adhere onto the red striped paper, centering.

4.  Adhere the assembly from step 3 to the front of the cream card base.  Add some tiny flowers over the twine as shown.

5.  Cut a border 1 3/4" x 7 1/2" and adhere inside the card adjacent to the score line.

Nice, easy to make card, easy to mail, score!

Masculine Card with Stamperia's Cosmos

Cosmos is a beautiful collection of images that evoke the night sky and the creatures that roam in the evening.  It appeals to the side of me that loves nature.

1.  Begin by cutting a khaki colored card base 10 1/4" x 6 1/4".  Score at 5 1/8".    Cut out the owl cut-apart, 3 1/4" x 5 1/8", as shown below from the cut-apart page and a sentiment from the sentiments page.

2.  Cut a piece 4 7/8" x 6" from the patterned paper shown below.  Then tear from the cardstock used for the base, a piece about 4" x 5 7/8".  Paint a thin line of water along where you want the cardstock to tear.  This ensure that your cardstock tears where you want it to tear!

3.  Pop up the owl cut-apart with foam adhesive tape and adhere to the cardstock.

4.  Adhere the patterned piece from Step 2 to the front of the card base, centering.  Then adhere the owl and cardstock from Step 3 over the patterned paper on the left side as shown in the photo below.    Attach a Typed Token to the sentiment as shown and then adhere the sentiment on the side,  just under the edge of the owl cut-apart.

5.  Cut a piece of cream cardstock for the inside 4 3/4" x 4 1/2"v and adhere to the right side. Cut a border from the back of the last page in the paper pack 4 3/4" x 1 3/8".  Add a piece of washi tape over the border 4 3/4" long.  Adhere two Typed Tokens as shown to the washi tape.

Saturday Showcase: Stamperia Alice Mixed Media Tag Tutorial

Hello, Friends! Happy Saturday! It's Kathy here with this week's Saturday Showcase. Today I'm sharing a tutorial for this Stamperia Alice Mixed Media Etcetera Tag. While this is not a complete step out tutorial, I do have several great techniques, tips and ideas that I think you will enjoy.

I decided to let my Girly Grunge side and my Shabby Chic side throw a Mixed Media Party for this Saturday Showcase. It's fun to experiment with new product, try new techniques and make a mess!

I began by painting the outer edges of my Etcetera Tag with Cracked Pistachio Distress Paint. While the paint was still wet, I sprinkled it liberally with Seth Apter Dusk Baked Velvet. I let the excess slide off onto a piece of clean paper and put it back in the jar. Then I heat embossed. Adding embossing mediums over wet Distress Paint is a very quick and easy way to add wonderful texture to a project. The wet paint replaces the need for embossing ink, and sometimes it actually cracks or bubbles while being heated, adding even more texture, which I love.

Baked Velvet Mediums heat emboss to a matte finish, which is such a neat look. Next, I dry brushed more Cracked Pistachio randomly over the Baked Velvet. While still wet, I sprinkled Patina Oxide randomly about, then heat embossed. The end result is this incredible weathered wood effect. Yummy!

This photo is a before/after of a bunch of metal embellishments. I tapped the metals with Cracked Pistachio, then heat embossed with Dusk Baked Velvet. While the surfaces were still hot, I sprinkled with Patina Oxide (use tweezers if you touch the metal...it's HOT!) then embossed a second time. Some areas were then highlighted again with paint. I love the patina this created. It also served to give all these varied finishes a uniform look. Now I was ready to go to work on the details of the tag, which you will see in the tutorial below. But first, here are some detail photos for you to enjoy.

This tag flips over to reveal a 4" x 6" waterfall feature. I had to get creative to make this work...and I'll show you how in the video tutorial.

Saturday Showcase: Stamperia Garden Journal

Spotlight on Stamperia's Garden Collection

Hello friends, Maggi here with the Saturday Showcase! The spotlight is shining on Stamperia's Garden collection today.  These papers are colorful and filled with delightful garden images that just might entice you to do a little fussy cutting.  I've created a garden journal that is simple to make, but oh so lovely, and, since it's the time of year for gift giving, this journal is perfect for the gardener's in your life!

Tutorial

I chose to use a 3 binder notebook that has a see through sleeve on the front, back and spine because it is practical.  You can make really pretty covers that will stand up to constant use because of the cover protector.  You can get notebooks in many different sizes and shapes and I chose to use a small notebook that  holds 5.5" x 8.5" paper.

Inside the journal I created pockets, tags, and divider pages for organizing the gardener's tasks.

This journal is all about vegetable gardening and so I created pages to track the yield from the various vegetables. I like to know how much is put up every year so that I'll know whether to increase or decrease how much I've planted.

Ok, let's get busy!  You can ink and/or distress your pages, that's up to you.  I don't distress as much as I used to but I do love the effect. All my pages are inked with Distress Oxide Ink in Antique Linen and Frayed Burlap.  Some of the papers are distressed using Tim Holtz's paper distresser.

Step 1: The Cover

Here's how I did the cover.  I started with a piece of cream card stock that I cut to fit inside the cover sleeve.  I inked it with Distress Oxide Antique Linen and then stenciled on the dots using tan acrylic paint and a stenciling brush.  

This collection includes some great cut-aparts and images that work for fussy cutting.  I selected  square and  rectangular cut-aparts for my cover and adhered as shown below.  I fussy cut the circle sentiment, the boots, and the "my garden" elements and adhered with dimensional foam to pop them up.

I finished off the cover with a few small flowers and 3 cute little buttons.

For the spine I simply cut a strip of design paper about 1 1/8" wide and then placed a narrow strip down the center, adhering with scor-tape.  That's my choice of adhesive for jobs like this, you can certainly use whatever is your favorite adhesive.

I think the back cover is stunning, yet it's nothing more than a piece of design paper with fussy cut birds added.  No need for fancy embellies, it's beautiful just like it is!

Step 2: Calendar

As a gardener, I'm always looking at the calendar, checking planting dates and such, so I printed a calendar (you can find lots of free printable calendars on the internet) and mounted it on a sheet of design paper.  On the backside, I fussy cut the birdhouse and added a chipboard word that is heat embossed with Emerald Creek Rose Gold embossing powder.  The backside is a great place for a gardener to make notes.

Step 3:  Dividers

I cut tabbed dividers for the notebook on my Cameo but you can also buy them or cut your own.  You could also cut rectangles and add tabs to them.  

The collection includes a page that has 4 printed 6" x 6" cut-aparts.  I've used one of those on this divider to create a pocket at the bottom.   The pocket is popped up so that I can include a packet of seeds.  I also made a pretty tag to slip in the pocket with an ivory Graphic 45 tag.  Then I used Graphic 45's regular tag die to die-cut design paper to adhere to the tag, front and back.  I like to finish off my tags with a pretty bow made from seam binding.

I really love the imagery in this collection and the colors, wow!!  That teal and pink is just so spectacular!  Here's the backside of the Planting Guide divider.  I made a vertical pocket and slipped in little monthly cut-aparts that are part of this fun collection.

These pages are all fairly simple, to recreate, you just need to first cover your dividers with base design paper and then find the various elements that I've fussy cut and adhere.

The divider below is super simple, just a piece of design paper and a strip of burlap. Then create a window  using a Tim Holtz Baseboard frame over a window from the design paper.

Tips:  The cover of Stamperia papers often has little elements that you can cut out and this window came from the front cover.

Notice how the bottom left corner of the frame is cut away.  I did this so that I could adhere the fussy cut flower with the button center to the base paper. This way the button is not over the frame and so it's less bulky.

The little black butterflies are Remnant Rubs.

The back of this divider also has a vertical pocket with more of the calendar cut-aparts.

I used two different pieces of design paper for the front of this divider.  Then I fussy cut the bird, the flower pots, and the thyme element from design papers and adhered.  The back of the divider is just a piece of design paper cut to fit along with two plant markers die-cut from another sheet of design paper.

I used two different pieces of design paper on this divider, and then adhered to herbs plant marker over the seam where the striped paper joins the multi-printed collage paper.  I distressed the edges of the paper where the two pieces meet just to add to the shabby appearance. The paper is so pretty that it doesn't need a lot of embellishment, it pops just like it is!

I used another of the 6" x 6" square cut aparts to create a pocket for the back of this divider page.  Then I covered another Graphic 45 tag to slip in the pocket.

I love Stamperia's collections because their papers are so colorful and they include many elements that are perfect for fussy cutting.  Also their papers have the appearance of being collaged so that it is not necessary to add a lot to the page.  You can easily create journals and mini albums that are not so bulky as the pages don't need a lot of embellishment to be pretty.  I am a person who likes to throw "the kitchen sink" at every page, but I am able to control myself with these papers! 😃
