Howdy Everybuddy, our sissy had an accident. She was driving home from work about 8.00 pm, it was dark, and she hit a kangaroo. Where we live, this is always a possibility and Dad has had many close calls with 'Roos. They are totally unaware of the danger they are in (and can cause) and Dad has even had them hop straight down the middle of the road when trying to 'escape' from his car.
They are fast, can hop from one side of the road to the other with amazing speed but at the same time, can also jump in front of your car without warning. The worse time is early morning and dusk when they are on the move.
Thank goodness our sissy was unhurt. The Roo was killed, sadly, but when hit at 100 km an hour, and weighing approx 70-80 kgs (154 -176 lbs), there is not much chance of surviving.
Our Sissy was extremely shaken and shocked. It happened so fast she had no time to do anything but brake. She had no time to swerve but as this usually causes loss of control and with all the huge Gum trees along our roads, it could have made a much worse scenario.
Result, one bonnet needed replacing, one front bumper replaced, new radiator and front lights.
We are so sorry for the Roo, but so thankful our Sissy is ok. Mum had a little melt down after the event! So on this weekend, and to our friends across the pond enjoying a long weekend, we say, stay safe on the roads, and if you see a Roo, ask him what the heck he's doing O/S!!
