The Tomorrow People III 1.22

A good cast can’t possibly make this nonsense work at this late stage.

  • A character dies, but it happens early and without impact.

  • The thrilling cliffhanger from the previous episode is quickly explained away. Rather poorly.

  • Romantic pairings are forced upon the audience.

  • A predictable twist is added to Stephen’s powers. But he uses it at the end of the episode to save Cara. Not earlier in the episode to save his dad. WTF!?!

  • Everyone keeps talking about the end of the world, the phrase is used over and over and has no meaning. And when the ‘the end of the world’ comes… It seems silly.

The writers lost their way. This final episode is a mess. 3/10

The Tomorrow People III 1.21

Michael Hogan . Mostly quite ridiculous, with a false jeopardy situation brought about by a bad decision in the previous episode. Many bad scenes.

  • The character at the start who is introduced to be killed a few seconds later.

  • The John/Cara farewell scene.

  • The John/Astrid speeding car scene.

  • The Roger/Marla workout scene.

  • Stephen/Cara threatening the soldier to shut off the network. And Stephen blowing it up then, anyways.

  • Cara fetching Astrid from the bar, so she can be with John to die.

  • Natalie. Every single Natalie scene is terrible.

Sometimes theses provoke mild chuckles. The show is nonsense now. Bearing no resemblance to the first part of the season. 3/10

The Tomorrow People III 1.20

Leven Rambin . Worst episode so far. So much wrong it’s hard to know where to begin.

  • Roger wanted to go home for a meal with his family and the Tomorrow People went apeshit. For no reason. Consequently, they look like idiots.

  • The reasons behind Roger’s faking his death, and the way it was done, make no sense, and the show does itself no favours by drawing attention to it.

  • As soon as he was resurrected, and just out of surgery, his forced into an idiotic trial-by-combat thing. Really stupid.

  • And, of course, it was Cara who instigated this. Because the writers insist on writing her a leader who makes decisions that run contrary to what the audience wants to happen.

  • Great to see Rambin on the show, but it’s way too late to introduce this kind of major(?) character. And she seems like an idiot, making some really bad decisions for no good reason.

  • Hillary’s thought processes make no sense. Consequently, her big sacrifice at the end packs no emotional punch.

This show completely lost it’s way mid-season. A shame, because it started off good. 4/10

The Tomorrow People writers ruined their best character, Cara,...

The Tomorrow People writers ruined their best character, Cara, in the second half of the season! She was obviously destined to be the leader from the get-go, but as soon as she actually became leader the show didn’t know how to write her anymore. So they just made her into a cold bitch, always making the ‘wrong decision’ so that Stephen & John had to go rogue in some way and ‘save the day’. That’s when she was actually making decisions. Most of her thoughts in the back nine seemed devoted to the BOYS in her life. WTF?! A horrible, horrible misstep. So many better ways they could have handled the character.

Can’t remember when I last saw a show self-destruct so badly. Sigh.

The Tomorrow People III 1.19

Yikes! This is a bit of a mess. Loads of crazy stuff happening all at once, and none of it (like the ‘return’) seems particularly well thought out. It just sorta happens. The dance/nightclub scenes was awful. Easily the worst scene in the entire series. So far. The ‘twist’ ending was predictable and disappointing.

Wow, this show sure fell from a height. Difficult to care about characters (like Cara and Astrid) when their defining characteristic these days is their jealousy of Stephen’s new girlfriend. Most of their dialogue in this episode is about Hillary. And the show didn’t start out this way. Sigh. 5/10

The Tomorrow People III 1.18

The tug-of-war between good(?) and evil(?) with Stephen in the middle is good. But anything involving Cara is dumb. The writers have effectively ruined that character. Gone is strong potential leader from the first half of the season, now she is just an embodiment of every bad cliche for every female character you’ve ever seen.

And the convoluted backstory is getting more convoluted all the time. But, at least, this episode was fun. Largely thanks to Mark Pellegrino and Alexa Vega. 8/10

The Tomorrow People III 1.17

Serinda Swan, Elise Gatien. The b-story (Cara and her sister) doesn’t work at all and produces no good scenes, the a-story gets better as it goes on and has some solid drama in the final act (with a death and a twist). 7/10

The Tomorrow People III 1.16

Story-of-the-week is quite bland, but several things do happen that bode well for future episodes. 6/10

The Tomorrow People III 1.15

James Mackay, Madeleine Arthur .

  • Quite a dark ending to this one, which (despite some cliched dialogue) was a fairly solid story-of-the-week, even if we now get the sense that the show is bending over backwards to maintain it’s convoluted status quo.

  • I like seeing John and Astrid sharing screentime, but their little story arc went absolutely nowhere.

8/10

The Tomorrow People III 1.14

Pretty good case-of-the-week, but the series continuity is quite convoluted now, as we keep track of who works with whom and who knows what. And the writing of Cara is questionable. She is no longer a remotely sympathetic character. What happened?! Why did they have to make her evil as soon as she became the leader? Don’t like that subtext very much, tbh. 8/10

The Tomorrow People III 1.13

Serinda Swan . Some good ideas here, but the actual plot is a bit vague and wishy-washy. Good developments in the final minutes, however. Almost makes up for the disappointing direction the writers are taking Kara. Sigh. 8/10

The Tomorrow People III 1.12

Best episode in a while. Giving much deserved screentime to Madeleine Mantock. Good stories. Misdirection was a bit obvious, but it basically worked. 9/10

The Tomorrow People III 1.11

James Mackay. It’s good to see the show back to having a case/baddie-of-the-week and taking steps to expand the show’s universe, with new recurring characters. There were some good scenes here (like John training the young girl) but a lot of it felt quite bland: a group of people we don’t know very well fighting another group of people we don’t know very well, all being monitored by a third group of people we don’t know very well. I was pleased to see they were giving Russell something to do, but it turned out he was only cannon fodder. Oh well. 7/10

The Tomorrow People III 1.10

Ty Olsson . The series’ backstory is taking up way too much screentime. There are only so many times that Jedikiah can confront Kara, only so many times he can voice suspicions about Stephen, etc. It’s certainly cool to see Kara take over the leadership position, but this episode accomplished nothing else. The best bits were the ones with Robert Gant , because his scenes promise something new and something different. And the show needs that. Fast. To avoid getting stale. 7/10

The Tomorrow People III 1.9

Carly Pope, Nicholas Young. Flabby. Several important things happen, but the episode lacks cohesion overall. It’s like a disjointed epilogue to the first eight episodes. Like a To Do List that needs to be completed before the mid-season break. And, yet, despite the fact that there was no dramatic tension whatsoever there are many individual moments that were enormously satisfying. Particularly anything involving the complex way the various characters interact and form alliances. 8/10

The Tomorrow People III 1.8

Nicholas Young, Simon Merrells . Wow, this episode hits the ground running and never lets up. Lots of new info here, and interesting character moments. Cara is shown more and more in a leadership position, too. 9/10

The Tomorrow People III 1.6

Aaron Yoo finally gets something substantial to do, in a strong episode with plotlines thematically linked by ‘sacrifice’. 9/10

The Tomorrow People III 1.5

Party. Started off very light-hearted, very light-weight. Least interesting episode so far. But still very good.

At the midpoint it became the darkest, most violent, and (easily) the best episode so far. Kara was a amazing at the end. This show is on fire. 10/10

The Tomorrow People III 1.3

Great mixture of story arc, story-of-the-week, character backstory, fights and really clever storytelling. 10/10

The Tomorrow People III 1.2

Tighter and better than the pilot, with a compelling case-of-the-week and great character interactions. The tension in some of the scenes was fantastic. Plus there was action and cool Special FX. And it made me laugh. Superb!! 10/10
