The Listener 5.13

Bruce Gray. Clever, exciting self-contained story, with a terrific and powerful villain. Also: a rushed but incredibly satisfying resolution to the story arc questions from season one, dealing with Toby’s mother.

Die-hard fans (such as myself) will be overjoyed to see this brought to conclusion in the last episode, and by an important conversation between Toby and Becker about Charlie Marks.

A worthy ending to a great TV show. I will miss it very much indeed. 10/10

The Listener 5.10

Tommie-Amber Pirie . Good case-of-the-week, with a nice twist. And a very welcome return to the mystery of Toby’s mother. Feels like the show is gearing up for a big finish. 9/10

(And Vega gets cooler ever damn week!)

The Listener has had an amazing 4th season. Subtle, perfectly-realised, character arcs building to very, very emotional final scenes. It really has been a great ride all summer. I cannot wait for Season 5.

I’m a huge Gina Holden fan. Delighted to see her on The Listener, and with such a good (potentially returning?) character.

The Listener 4.10

Gina Holden. Terrific departure from formula. Superb guest star, and a story with a surprising ending. Lots of great personal drama for the regulars, as well. All round this is a perfect episode. 10/10

The Listener 4.9

Stephen McHattie. Predictable case-of-the-week. Best parts of the episode were the wonderful scenes devoted to Michelle’s personal life. I’m very annoyed, however, that there was no scene with Tia this week… 8/10

The Listener 4.5

Michael Filipowich , Michael Mando . Good story (departs from formula), with good guest casting and a few superb scenes. (Oz in the bar. And the revelation of Tia’s ‘secret’. Very clever.) 10/10

The Listener 4.2

Ingrid Kavelaars, Stephanie Anne Mills. Solid case-of-the-week, with Toby now being much more vocal about what he sees. 7/10
