After such a long time promising to post it, it's finally here. The third Chimera of the 42nd, one belonging to the Psyker Battle Squad!
As I have said previously, it isn't really that much special. It's converted only slightly. I toyed with an idea of a heavy conversion, perhaps a different paintjob... But then I thought not to.
The first reason was, that I enjoy the sight of a uniform Guard army, with all the units being similar and looking like a proper army! A different color Chimera (I though black or purplish, like the Psykers' robes) would break the uniformity, especially considering I only had 3! Perhaps if I had more...
That didn't stop slighty Psyker-ish conversions to appear all over it however. You can see a funny chain with a skull here.
And obviously lots of parchments and scriptured, to keep their great little minds safe.
A little closeup on the parchments. The idea of using red to break the plain black text was turned out excellent on the Psykers themselves, thus it is used here as well.
Do Not Enter If Your Head Is Not Prone To Exploding Or Demonic Possession notice.
As I said before, nothing so very special but still looks quite good and ties in great with the rest of the army. Now the times changed a little and since I more or less finished the Wolves, I am back to expanding the Guard. If I knew I would do this, I probably would've went differently about this project, especially considering the new Chimeras are slightly different..

At long last, they are done! Fully finished, aside from their transport! I wanted to get those out of the way, before I start on my comission and I managed to get myself to do that finally! The comission itself is halfway done too, but that's for another post, another time.
Without further ado!
Blurry? Yes, I know, it's hard to shoot an entire squad like that. But worry not, click below and you shall see much more pictures, including detail shots!
Starting off with these three fellas. My favourite here is the left one - dynamic casting pose. The right on, on the other hand, has funny teeth. They're implants, from the teeth of dead pilgrims or something equally awesome! The middle one is probably the least interesting of all three metal psykers, but it sure is nice!
Another three, with my absolute favourite on the right! I just love that head. The middle one is a great metal pose, while the right one is the third of the "Graaargh, eat my liiightning!" poses.
Starting from the left we have a psyker with a cyber-eye and an unusual (technic-wise) hair colour. Then we have the middle tutor psyker that's concentrating hard to channel the powers of the squad and the fella on the right who wasn't a pretty sight after the sanctioners finished their job...
And last, but not the least - the overseer! Watching the witches with caution and never hesitating to pull the trigger.
Now a few details shots I thought are interesting. First a scroll-tabard.
The head and staff of my favourite psyker.
And his tabard! Along with a key that's his psy-focus.
Shot on the face I think turned out the best of them all.
"Oooh, one mother of a headache I've got..."
"Beware. I'm watching."
And that's it! Thanks for reading, hope you like those! As always I'd love to hear your comments. If you'd also want some specific shot that I haven't included, just say!
Their Chimera is coming along, though I'll probably finish the Vostroyans before that. Expect a progress post on those some time soon, unless I actually finish them during the weekend, which I should..
Not much other news. The Wolves hit the shelves, probably grabbing a codex next week, but waiting for the battleforce to come out before starting. I have great plans for them. :)

It's coming!
Three done so far. Should be all finished by the end of the week.
What do you think?

Here they are, the finished Psyker Battle Squad I promised to show you a while ago. Took a while to finish them and I'm really satisfied with the results. Now they sit comfortably undercoated and waiting their turn at the painting table.
And a problem arises. I was at first planning to paint their robes red and now I am unsure of this. It might turn out okay, but might not. On the other hand I wouldn't paint them in standard Red Gore->Blood Red, more like Red Gore highlighted with mixes of white, to make the color look a bit different... I mgith have to pick up Scab Red for that too. If you have any suggestions, feel free to share them in the comments! Anyway, enough talk, pictures!
Here's the squad. Click below for more pics, as usual!
I think the guys here are my favourites of them all. The one on the left has a dynamic pose, lack of sight, an hour-glass as his psy-focus (Check Dark Heresy rulebook for that! ;)) and the beard. The right one actually looks quite noble-ish, he was the first one I decided to make the high collar and it turned out great!
The left one didn't have a lot of modifications. He's annoyed, aiming with his laspistol and yelling. Woo. The only thing is that he has no eyes. Other than one cybernetic that is. While the original model probably wasn't intending that it appeared as such to me and I decided to go with it. The guy on the right on the other hand looks abit like a vampire, I guess it's the coat and the teeth that make such impression. But it's actually quite fluffy. If you read Dark Heresy (Can you tell I love it and draw lots of inspiration from there?) you can see that psykers get to roll for a random effect of their sanctioning. One of them, which our party psyker actually has, is that the psyker lost all his teeth during the process and was given a replacement of carven dentures made of teeth of dead pilgrims. Awesome, huh?
And the final pair. The left one is a bit meh. I suppose I should've made an outstretched hand rather that fist on his arm, but oh well. The right one had some really nasty sanctioning. I mean, he has a bandaged arm and lost his face. It'd be too much of an effort to reconstruct it and he wasn't really that promising, so they just decided to give him that iron mask. Cheap and efficient, isn't it?
And the entire squad in a bit of a closeup.
Now, I've seen it asked again in comments so I'll answer once more. The tops of the staff are resin casts of the staff top of one of the original metal psykers. I have a friend over here who's dong those things and he cast them for me. Everything else is plastic Empire Flagellants (or metal Sanctioned Psykers), some spare Vehicle accessory and Cadian bits (the pistol holsters and pistols) and quite a bit of green stuff.
Coming up next - the long-delayed next chapter of IHRH (got pics taken just need to write it), some shots of the new platoon additions, Valks and hopefuly painted vets. Also there's an upcoming Apocalypse game, I'll be sure to post some battle report!

Here we go. You all wanted to see them and there they are. The Psyker Battle Squad. Still a very early WIP, but it gives a nice picture overall. Without further ado..
Before we start though, a little background. The Psyker Battle Squad was assigned to the 42nd Cadian by Adepta Astra Telepathica to counter enemy psykers and wreck havoc upon foes of the Emperor. It's composition is quite unusal however. It is lead by 3 seasoned Sanctioned Psykers that are experienced on the field of battle and know well how to channel the powers of the warp. Under their jurisdiction are 6 adept psykers (So each experienced psyker schools two of them). They're a ragtag bunch that, while worthy enough not to be sacrificed to the great Astronomican beacon, might be more or less useless lonely. Together they channel raw power of the warp that is shaped by the three mentors. Some of these adepts one day might become mentors themselves, but most will just be reduced to gibbering wrecks within a year or less and replaced with another shipment... Behind them stands a solitary man, highly trained by Adepta Astra Telepathica in restrainment of emotions and cold calculation. His only duty - to hold that pistol tight and make sure the psykers make no mistakes... lest he redeems their souls..
There will be more fluff regarding them upcoming. You maybe noticed a small sidebar title "42nd Background". Expect more to appear there relatively soon!
Now, for the interesting part, the pictures!
Here are the three mentors:
And if you click below you will find out more...
What did I use to make my psykers? Well I'm sure most of you could've guessed that as it seems it'll be a popular choice. Here:
Yup, the Empire Flagellants. But before them, the Overseer I've shown a while before. Now finished!
And finally the Psykers themselves. As I said still quite an early WIP, will have lots more work on them, though the basic parts are there. Now just lots and lots of GS...
That's it for today. School is getting more and more annoying (But I think I did pass that maths test which would mean no exam for me!) so I have less and less time. But I'll post a couple of other WIPs shortly, I think. And a certain key figure of the army that finally got his colors...
In the other news I varnished my entire army. Sure looks as good as it did before and is protected, woo!
Also, there's a new poll on the right. As some of you noticed, there has been an assault of heretical ad-commenters on my blog. They have been purged by fire and precautions have been taken - the entire layout is linked via my Picasa account, rather than "their" hosting. Even though, they still could have logs and the site address. That's why Disqus _could_ stop them. Otherwise I'll probably have to contact Blogger administrator.
Anyway, if you see an aforemention heretic, feel free to use your bolt pistol at will.
And lastly, the layout is almost done. Only things left are really minor changes (though they could impact a whole lot) that I will implement gradually as I'll have more time.

I've been toying a bit with my veterans, now they're mostly done, so I moved on to the next thing - the Psyker Battle Squad. I do not yet have models to convert into psykers themselves, but I can make the other fella. The iron-willed man, that's there to save the poor psykers' souls if something goes wrong - the Overseer!
Here's how he looks now, still an early WIP:
Now, there's something that is still "meh" about that sculpt. Not quite sure what exactly is that, but it's not lack of detail, for sure. He is slightly static, using the tank commander parts from vehicle accessory sprue, but it fits this person rather well.. What is wrong! I'd love to hear your opinions and suggestions on this man.
A little background: This is an agent of Adepta Astra Telepathica, not a psyker himself, that's been trained for this one purpose. Seeing to psykers' souls purity and instructed in recognising when there is something wrong happening. The hood he's wearing is actually a weak version of a psychic hood. While it wouldn't stop a psychic power thrown at him directly, it does help against the minor turbulences that occur around the psykers when perils of the warp happen. He could also be some kind of a weak Blank, but I suppose that would interfere with psykers' powers way too much.
As for IHRH, part two is coming somewhere around Friday! Also I'd like to thank you all for positive comments.
