Favorite Makeup Products!

Makeup is a girls best friend
I thought I would share my favorite makeup products! Most of these I have been using for at least a year. I love them all dearly. Also, basically all of these I use everyday.
Enjoy :)

Face Products: For face products I usually stick with either Maybelline or Covergirl. My favorite foundation of all time is the Covergirl outlast stay fabulous. It is considered a three in one foundation so it has foundation, concealer, and primer. I am VERY loyal to this foundation and highly recommend it! My current powder that I have had for a while is the Maybelline Fit Me powder. I don't think there can really be a bad powder, unless its chalky, but I really do like this powder! For bronzing products I have used Estee Lauder's bronze goddess for ever. This bronzer has probably lasted me at least 3 or 4 years. It's really good and is matte which is nice. Recently, I picked up Maybelline's Master Hi-Light in nude and I love it. It is a nice mix between a bronzer and a highlight. For concealer I use either my Physicians Formula stick concealer or a liquid Mary Kay concealer. Both work great and cover up blemishes well.
My shades: Ivory Covergirl foundation , Ivory Maybelline powder, Light Physicians Formula concealer,  Nude Master Hi-Light, Bronze Goddess bronzer.
Fit Me powder | Master Hi-Light | 3-1 Foundation | Concealer (similar) | bronzer

Eye Products: For eyes I mainly use three palletes. One is a Mary Kay trio that has a shimmery creme, plum, and dark purple shade. It is from the Mary Kay Play collection. Another palette I use a lot is a Lorac pallette. I'm not sure the name of it because it doesn't say on the package. But I love the neutral tones it has! Another palette I use often is the Stila watercolor palette (limited addition). It has great green and smokey eye tones. For mascaras I like Rimmel London and Covergirl products. My current favorites are the Covergirl clump crusher and the Rimmel London Scandal Eyes Flex. For eyeliner I either use a gel Rimmel London liner or Maybelline's master precise liquid eyeliner. For my base I usually use a creme eye shadow. My all time favorite is Benefit's R.S.V.P. It is a gorgeous pearl shimmery shade and looks good under basically everything. I am also a big fan of the Maybelline color tattoo's, my favorite color is Inked in Pink

Cheek Products: I am a blush person! I love the different shades of pink you can get with blush. Three of my favorite blushes are from NYX. Their stick blushes are great! They last a long time and are easy to apply. I simply apply it with the applicator then blend it in with my finger. I also love their powder blushes. Two other blushes I love are Milani's Luminoso and Physicians Formula's Happy Boost blush in Pink. All of these are great light shades and are perfect for everyday wear.

My Shades: NYX stick blush in Orchid and Tea Rose, NYX powder blush in Pinched, Physicians Formula powder blush in Pink, and Milani's powder blush in Luminoso.

Look out for a most on my favorite lip products! (There is too many top put in this post!)

Beauty Bar: Maleficent Inspired Look

First, I would like to welcome you to a new series of mine called Beauty Bar! Every wednesday I will be posting a new beauty feature. It can range from hair and makeup looks to my favorite products! I thought I would incorporate more beauty related posts to my blog to mix it up once a week. If you have any requests for looks you want me to re-create/ other post ideas email me at mirandapollitt@gmail.com
Thanks and enjoy <3

A dark beauty look.....
Teen Vogue has a contest going on (still a few days left to enter!) to create a makeup look inspired by Maleficent the new Disney movie that comes out in a few days (aka May 30th). For my look I decided to go very dramatic but still wearable. What to get this dark and evil look? Well, here are the steps!

Makeup
1. Apply your normal foundation routine. This includes both your foundation and powder for me. Your next step is to apply a dark blush. Make it pretty bold to frame your face and give it color. Maleficent is generally fair skinned so skip the bronzer for this look!
2. Next it is time for the eyes. I first applied a creme shadow so that the colors will show up better on my lids. The same effect can be given if you use an eye primer. Next I took a white shimmery shade and put it in the inner corner of my eye. Following that I took two shades of green and layered them on the outer part of my lid. I blended them together to get a dark green color. For the crease I took a dark black color then blended it with a blending brush.
3. For eyeliner create a small wing with a liquid eyeliner pen. Keep your line thin up until the outer part of your eye. Then create a thicker line for the cat eye. To finish the eyes apply your favorite mascara generously.
4. The last step in this evil look is to apply a dark maroon or red lipstick. This will give the finishing touch the look needs!

Look out for an upcoming Beauty Bar post on how to get this teased bun look!

Summer Staples

~Summer Essentials~
Summer is right around the corner, or you are already on summer break! So, what are the thinks I can't live without in the summertime?
  • Statement necklace: The question is when isn't a statement necklace a must have piece for me? However, in the summer there are super fun and bold necklaces you can wear to spice up your outfit. The brighter the better! J Crew necklaces are a specific must have for me. They are both colorful and fun but also are great quality. To find a cheap J Crew necklace I suggest finding a J Crew outlet!
  • Laptop: My laptop is another thing I cannot live without. Every girl has those summer nights when all they want to do is watch Netflix all day! Also, I have to keep up with all of my social media sites of course. But, another reason this is my must have is I will be taking both economics and a math course over the summer online. So, obviously I need my trusty laptop to complete my courses!
  • McDonalds Diet Coke: Diet Coke is basically my life. Nothing hits the spot like an ice cold McDonalds Diet Coke on a hot summer day.
  • Denim shirt: A denim shirt is a great layering piece when it gets chilly at night. Or if it is a colder summer day simply pair it with a pair of fun bright colored jeans or shorts.
  • Powder: No one likes a shiny face during the summer time. My Maybelline powder will be my best friend this summer as I take on the hot Chicago heat.
  • Kate Spade phone case: A fun phone case is one of my favorite accessories! Some of my favorites are all from Kate Spade of course.
  • Alex and Ani bangle: These bangles are perfect for stacking in the summer time. Pair them with your fun "friendship" style bracelets for a fun eclectic look.
  • High waisted shorts: My go-to shorts in the summer are almost all high waisted. American Eagle's festival short is my favorite denim pair!
  • Kate Spade tote: I have two Kate Spade totes, one small and one larger, and they are my go-to bags in the summer. They are great for keeping all of your essentials in. Also, they are big enough to put a light jacket in incase you get cold white dinning or shopping! (I always get cold in air-conditioned places! Am I the only one?)
  • Sperrys: Sperry Topsiders are the perfect summer shoe. They are comfortable to walk in all day but are still super stylish and cute.
  • Baby lips: Chapped lips is a huge no no. I rely on Baby Lips to keep my nice and soft. Also, they have fun tinted shades that will give your lips a dash of color.
  • Jack Rogers: I'm hoping to get a pair of Jack Rogers for my birthday! The gold ones will go with everything I wear. Not to mention they are adorably cute and very preppy.
  • Body spritz: I am not a big perfume person so I usually turn to a easy body mist to keep myself smelling yummy in the summer time!
  • Bronzer: I am not the tannest person in the world. But, I use Estee Lauder bronzer to keep my skin looking tan and golden.
~Happy Summer~

Burberry Spring 2014 Inspired Makeup Look

Burberry's spring collection included a super pink and simple makeup look. THis look is super easy to re-create and would be perfect for any spring day.

What you will need:
  1. An eyeshadow base: this will help you pink color really stand out on your eyelids. However this step isn't needed.
  2. Some sort of pink eyeshadow: pink eyeshadow is the main focus of this look. You can use multiple pink shades to create a more dimensional look or you can simply use one shade.
  3. A light pink lipstick: in the eye look it shows a light natural pink lip color so just use something that you already have. Or use a slightly tinted pink lip balm.

Steps:
  1. First apply your basic foundation routine. This may include concealer, foundation, and a pressed powder.
  2. Next take your eye shadow primer and apply it to your eye lids. This will make your pink eyeshadow more pigmented and help it stand out.
  3. Then it is time to apply your pink eyeshadow! First apply a coral pink shade. This will be your base color. After take a brighter pink shade to accent the center of your lid. This will create a super unique eye look for spring.
  4. After applying your shadows to your lid take a thin brush and apply the same base shadow under your lower lash line. This will create a smokey yet light eye look.
That is your completed Burberry inspired look! This look is not only super pink but nice and fresh for spring.

What's On My Nails

This is my most recent nail polish look. It combines two Essie shades to create the appearance of basically robins eggs. I like the added touch of sparkle that the effects nail polish creates.

Favorite Things of 2013!

I keep seeing so many great and cool posts about 2013 so I decided to join the bandwagon, once again. I have my favorite moments of 2013 post up now so go check that out to see a re-cap of my year!

An overall favorite of the year has been my blog! I have put my heart and sole into this blog and I feel it is starting to pay off. As I will talk about in this post 2013 wasn't the best year for me between school, relationships, and friends. However, I took my energy and focused it into this blog. I have made it 100x better then what it used to be in just a few months. So thank you to anyone and everyone who has read any post! It means so much to me that I can help or entertain someone :)

But I want to talk about my 13 favorites of 2013 from people, songs, beauty products, things, and fashion favorites!

13. Beauty Youtbuers: First favorite goes to Sarahbelle93x which is my favorite Youtuber EVER! (In general I love beauty/ fashion gurus! They are a nice study break for when I am super busy at school.) She is so funny, down to earth, and I love her style and videos in general. I think she is such a sweet person and she makes the best videos in my opinion. Not to mention her Instagram and Pinterest are PERFECT if you are preppy or a wannabe prepster (I'm a wannabe prepster I admit it.....). So you can see her channel by clicking here and her Instagram is @Sarahbelle93x!
P.S. I got this blog post idea from her video!

12. Statement Necklaces: One of my absolute fashion favorites is statement necklaces! You probably don't want to know how many statement necklaces I have bought in 2013. Its crazy! But, I honestly think they are the best way to spice up any outfit. I love the dash of color or sparkle they add to a look. If I am ever struggling with an outfit I feel like a necklace fixes all of my problems! I specifically am obsessed with J Crew statement necklaces. I have gotten some for super cheap on sale or at the outlet store. So be sure to look out for a good deal on them!  Here are a few of my favorites:
J Crew

L: Dry Goods; R: J Crew

L: Juicy Couture; R: Dry Goods

11. Bracelets/ Bangles: Another one of my fashion favorites were bangles and bracelets. I never really wore a lot bracelets in the past. But ever since I got my Henri Bendel bracelet I have been obsessed! Now I stack bracelets everyday. I feel lost without them to be honest. Henri Bendel is one of my favorite places to get super gorgeous bracelets. But, since I got my Alex and Ani bracelet I haven't taken it off! I got it on my Disney World trip because they have exclusive Disney bangles. Mine has the Magic Kingdom castle on it, however there are ones featuring Mickey and Minnie as well. Here are some of my favorite bracelets of 2013.....
L to R: Henri Bendel, J Crew, & Alex and Ani

10. Preppy Anything: Can we please talk about preppy things. I don't know why, maybe it's Sarah Belle's influence, but I love anything and everything preppy. From monograms to Vineyard Vines I love it all! More and more I find myself wanting things that are super preppy, such as puffy vests, monogramed anything, and baseball caps, and basically the whole J Crew store. I love wearing hats like my Vineyard Vines and monogram hat on a bad hair day. They have saved me on many Saturday and Sunday mornings in college.... Also, I find myself wearing my puffy vest so much. They are surprisingly versatile! Here are some of my favorite preppy things/ outfits of 2013........

9. Iowa State University: College is one of my favorites this year. I know it seems silly but I was so happy to leave high school. Don't get me wrong by no means was my high school experience terrible. But, it was so nice for a fresh start and a new set of totally different people. Hardly any kids from my high school went to my university. So, I was lucky enough to start completely fresh. With an overdramatic senior year I was glad to be done with it and to start something new! A lot of seniors don't want to leave high school. If your'e a senior reading this..... The best is yet to come I promise! I can't wait to see more of what my school has to offer for 2014 and for the rest of my 4 years here.
{A photo I took of my campus in the fall. I am in a photography club for freshman and this was one of the pictures I took!}

8. New opportunities: Since I have started college I have gotten so many more opportunities then I have ever had. Living in a Chicago suburb has had its perks with fashion opportunities, compared to most people. However, since I have gotten to school I have gotten so many amazing opportunities for my major (Apparel Design and Journalism). I have joined the style section of my schools newspaper The Iowa State Daily and I recently got a exec position on my schools fashion magazine Trend. Also, I am in other clubs that have given me a lot of knowledge and experiences that I otherwise wouldn't have gotten. Also, I am an intern for the Rent the Runway on campus program. It is such a great opportunity and a great way to learn how to promote a brand.
{Me at my committees photo shoot for Trend magazine!}

7. Sorority Life: Along with starting college I went through rush which was one of the best decisions I ever made. I was iffy about the whole sorority thing because I have had my fair share of girl drama (between school and dancing my whole life I've delt with the worst trust me). But, if you are on the fence about it I have to say to DO IT! I met some of the best friends I could ever have in my sorority. I can talk to any girl in my house and know we have at least one thing in common. Sure, we aren't all the same but we don't have to be! Being in Pi Beta Phi has been such a great and positive experience. Between doing YLH (an event during homecoming) or Big Little reveal I can't preach enough how much I love being a Pi Phi! So I will stop before I get to out of hand but Pi Phi is FOR SURE one of my favorites for 2013.
My AMAZING big and I! I love my Big to death and we are practically identical so there is that....

My pledge class at a sisterhood activity and on bid day!

YLH for homecoming! In other words we get painted from head to toe and scream and dance around a stage.... I swear we are normal.

6. One Direction: One Direction will most likely be a favorite forever! I went to the Take Me Home tour in the summer of 2013 and it was AMAZING to say the least. Their concerts are always entertaining and amazing.  They put on such a great performance and are such genuine and funny guys. And I'm in love with Niall Horan it is totally casual. Also, their new album is absolutely their best one. The songs are surprisingly a little edgy and very mature. All I have been listening to is the album since it was released. (and before it was released....) My favorite tracks include Story of My Life (here is the AMAZING music video as well.)Happily, and Half a Heart. But like I said the whole album is amazing. Not to mention their movie! (I can't talk about that without fan-girling hardcore) If you don't like One Direction I suggest you watch it... because you will like them after that movie! Also their two new music videos to Story of My Life and Best Song Ever are touching and hilarious. The Story of My Life video is really deep and personal to the boys. While the Best Song Ever video laugh out loud funny! So basically anything and everything One Direction is a favorite of 2013!

5. Prom Dress: I was OBSESSED with my prom dress. Prom was..... well not my favorite weekend. Lets say my least favorite weekend of 2013. However, my dress is one of my favorite things I have ever worn! If I could pick one thing to describe me it would be that dress. It is purple, sparkly, and dramatic. What's not to love? Even though the weekend was a bust, my dress was a for sure hit!
4. New Friends: Speaking of more positive people I have made some amazing friends this past year. Mainly from going to school, I have met people I would never have met back home. I have made friends from my floor, major, and in my sorority that will be friends for a lifetime. So shout out to all my friends I have made! I love you all <3

3. Teen Vogue: In the fall of 2013 I attended Teen Vogue Fashion University for the 2nd time. Yet again it was another great learning experience. Not to mention I love the city of New York and it makes me want to live there even more! Overall the weekend was great and made me want to work in the industry even more. Add on top of it I heared some amazing people speak. Click on any of these links to see my adventures in NY: Day 1Day 2Day 3,Outfits of the Weekend, and my NY blog haul

2. Bold Lips: I have been loving bold lipsticks all year. Starting senior year I really experimented with lipsticks and lip products. So now I am obsessed with them! For some reason I love buying new lipsticks. I can't go to Target without looking at the makeup section it seems like! My favorites include Revlon's Black Cherry lipstick, Revlon's Colorburst balms in Flirtatious, Standout, and Lovesick, Mary Kay's Red Salsa, Midnight Red, and Crimson Pouree, and then finally Tarte's LipSurgence in pouty.
Recent bold lip looks.

1. Moving On: This is an odd favorite but it is so true! A lot of crappy things happened in 2013 not going to lie. So, moving on was a big part of my year. I learned a lot about relationships, friends, and life this past year. As I would say it was a character building year. Not only did I have to move on from high school but also from problems and toxic people. This year I learned sometimes you have to let people go and move on for your own good. (It actually happened a lot this year) A lot of friends I realized weren't that good of friends. So, I had to let them go. Also, I had my fair share of boy problems..... (we won't talk about that) However, all of these crappy things taught me so much. In a way I am glad that everything that happened happened. Moving on and overcoming all of my problems was for the better. I am so happy that I left bad things behind in my life and made room for better and more positive people.

That are all of my favorite things of 2013! I hope you enjoyed!

New Years Eve Beauty Essentials

New Years Eve Beauty Essentials

NYE is a great night of the year to mix up your everyday makeup look. My best advice is to be BOLD. Try something that is out of your comfort zone. If you usually wear nude lips try a bold red. {Note to self a bold red lip is always okay on a holiday!}.

From my experience I love experimenting with lip products. I find it is the easiest way to switch up your look. Especially if you normally have your lips bare this will make a huge statement and it will add some color to your look. Also, a new trend I am seeing is a purple lip. So if you are feeling extra bold go for it!

Another fun thing to add to a NYE look is glitter or metallic nail polish. New Years eve is full of glamour so might as well deck out your nails too.

For me I love a cat eye look using liner. I find it the easiest to achieve with either a liquid liner or a gel.

Then lastly, glowy skin is also a good look. Pick yourself up some rosy blush to bright up your face. To add extra glow you can use a liquid or powder highlight.

Have a happy NYE!

Fall Face

Fall Face:

Here are some of my favorite beauty looks for this fall season.

Fall Face

Bronze eyes are always a great neutral option. Brown goes with practically everything. So, it's nice to have a neutral look to turn to for day to day activities. Usually I start off with a Maybelline color tattoo for this look use Bad to the Bronze! Then I layer on multiple shades of brown eye shadow. You can customize this look to your own preferences.

For lips I like to have a dark lip in the fall and also in the winter. Pick a shade that compliments your skin tone but I am always a fan of a dark maroon or dark red.

Fall Nails

Here are some of my favorite nail polishes for this season. Essie's For the Twill of it is now one of my all time favorite nail polishes. It has shades of both metallic green and purple. In some ways it is holographic which is always good. Another shade I love for fall is a dark maroon or red. If you are a red fan then try something new with this color. Grey tones are also a great option for fall. Whether it be a gun metal metallic or a matte grey tone. Lastly, nude nail polishes are also big this season. They are a lighter option which gives a more natural look.

Cat Eye Essentials

Also a great look for fall is cat eye eyeliner. If you are feeling super lazy one day just swipe on some liquid or gel eyeliner to create a cat eye and add some mascara and you are ready for the day.
