🎓✨ Celebrating Excellence at Rugby School Japan's Inaugural Speech and Prize Giving Day! ✨🎓 On Saturday, 29th June 2024, we proudly welcomed parents and the wider Rugby School community to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our pupils. The event commenced with a beautiful rendition of 'Wayfaring Stranger' by our Chamber Choir, followed by an inspiring opening address from our Founding Principal, Tony Darby. Prizes were awarded for Academic Merit, the Rugby Learner Profile, Academic Endeavour, Co-Curricular Contribution, and Community Values. It was a morning filled with pride and admiration as we reflected on the accomplishments of our founding pupils. The event concluded with the entire community singing 'Danny Boy,' before the community departed to the sound of the bagpipes - a fitting end to a memorable occasion. We are grateful to our dedicated teachers, supportive staff, founding parents and the members of the Board for their unwavering support throughout this inaugural year. We are delighted to share the highlights from the Rugby School Japan House Music Competition 2024. This inaugural event, held on 21st March, brought our school community together to celebrate the artistic talents of our students. The competition featured a range of impressive performances, judged by the esteemed pianist Marco Fatichenti. We are grateful for his expert guidance and invaluable feedback. We are incredibly proud of all our participants for their dedication and hard work. Congratulations to Rupert Brooke House in particular. School House boys were formidable competition. The Māori All Blacks Rugby Team (@allblacks) are presently in Japan! It was our great pleasure to host a Community Event with the Maori All Blacks Team at Rugby School Japan! A quick reminder: Rugby School was started in the town of Rugby, England 450 years ago! In 1823, the game of Rugby was originated in Rugby School when William Webb Ellis took a ball in his arms and ran with it! So, it was with great pride and joy that Founding Principal for Rugby School Japan, Tony Darby was able to kick off the Maori All Blacks Community Event! Discussion on the support required from CIE. Updates from Cambridge IE. A guided tour of our campus. Following the formal agenda, our guests joined staff and students for lunch, fostering deeper connections. The Community Art Group has recently been privileged to create several unique pieces of art for Sweedeedee restaurant in Kashiwanoha, near T-Site. Over several weeks, the students worked diligently and collaboratively, culminating in a visit to the restaurant on Friday, together with Head of Art, Ms Emma Hampson, to present their completed artwork to the owner, Mr Mori. This project showcases both their creativity and commitment to community engagement. We are delighted to share that Rugby School Japan hosted a lecture by the distinguished Professor Dr. Maki Kawai, President of the National Institute of Natural Sciences, on "Single Molecular Spectroscopy - Surface Science" on Thursday, 20 June. Dr Kawai is credited with developing single-molecule spectroscopy, which allows us to study chemical reactions and interactions at a molecular level. The recipient of several prestigious awards, including recognition as a Person of Cultural Merit, Dr Kawai became the first woman to be appointed to the position of President of the Chemical Society of Japan in 2018. Dr Kawai’s lecture gave an insight into her research and a career in scientific research, while also making key links to the science content covered at GCSE and A-Level.
