Congratulations 🙌👍 Go Tokyo 🇯🇵🔥💪🙌 Guardian Girls has been launched in 15 countries in two years around the globe👏🕊️ I am honored to announce that KIF Japan and TELL Japan successfully launched the special event "Changing Focus from Myth to Reality: Addressing the Issue of Sexual Violence in Japan," followed by the "Guardian Girls Aikido" Seminar at Seisen International School in Tokyo - An IB World School. This event benefited both Japanese and foreign women living in Tokyo and was held in collaboration with the Aikikai Foundation, International Aikido Federation (IAF) and Guardian Girls International (GGI). I’m the CEO of GGI and Chair of KIF Japan! Royanne Doi, Executive Director of TELL Japan, welcomed distinguished guests from the government of Japan, embassies, women’s organizations, business corporations, and sports-related organizations. We were privileged to have two exceptional speakers: Ms. Machiko Osawa, Professor Emeritus and Director of Research at the Research Institute for Women and Careers, and Ms. Naoko Kanatani from the Sexual Assault Relief Center Tokyo (SARC). Following the speaker’s remarks, the Guardian Girls Aikido Seminar was conducted, where over 40 diverse Japanese and foreign women participated in a one-hour session led by GG Aikido Chief Instructor Ms. Miyuki Kumazawa, who holds a 6th Dan Black Belt, along with two other female Aikido assistant instructors. The participants, many of whom had no prior Aikido training, were enthusiastic and thrilled with the seminar. I would like to extend my gratitude to the cooperating organizations, such as the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan Women in Business Committee, Women In Law Japan (WILJ) and the Association of Women in Finance. Special thanks to our honored guests from the Nippon Forensic Human Center, National Association of Directors of Mental Health Centers, and the Japanese Society of Transcultural Psychiatry. On this International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we salute the generations of girls' school graduates around the world who have pursued STEM careers, making breakthroughs and discoveries, and advancing our collective understanding. And we cheer for the girls' school students—and the teachers who inspire them—embracing the study of science with curiosity and confident capability. Steadily, women and girls are closing the gender gap in science. While women are still underrepresented in STEM fields, our research shows that girls' school grads are six times more likely to consider majoring in math, science, and technology in higher ed, and three times more likely to pursue a career in engineering. All of this bodes well for the future, and it is certainly cause for celebration.
