🎓✨ Celebrating Excellence at Rugby School Japan's Inaugural Speech and Prize Giving Day! ✨🎓 On Saturday, 29th June 2024, we proudly welcomed parents and the wider Rugby School community to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our pupils. The event commenced with a beautiful rendition of 'Wayfaring Stranger' by our Chamber Choir, followed by an inspiring opening address from our Founding Principal, Tony Darby. Prizes were awarded for Academic Merit, the Rugby Learner Profile, Academic Endeavour, Co-Curricular Contribution, and Community Values. It was a morning filled with pride and admiration as we reflected on the accomplishments of our founding pupils. The event concluded with the entire community singing 'Danny Boy,' before the community departed to the sound of the bagpipes - a fitting end to a memorable occasion. We are grateful to our dedicated teachers, supportive staff, founding parents and the members of the Board for their unwavering support throughout this inaugural year. We look forward to many more years of excellence and growth at Rugby School Japan! #RugbySchoolJapan #SpeechAndPrizeGivingDay #CelebratingExcellence #CommunitySpirit #AcademicAchievement #thewholepersonthewholepoint #Tokyo #BritishEducation #BoardingSchool

Let’s Get Behind School Rugby Throughout the course of this week, the National Schools’ Rugby Sevens will see over 14,000 players in over 1000 teams compete in a variety of competitions. Some are here to win it, some aiming to progress further than before and others participating for the experience. Whilst Rugby is addressing legitimate challenges, it is also a game that continues to capture the imagination of large numbers. The era of compulsory rugby is long gone, and these children are participating because they love the game. It never was a sport for everyone, but continues to be one which enriches the lives of many, providing lifelong memories and friendships. There is something captivatingly attractive about Rugby, though its leaders are curiously reluctant to articulate its benefits more widely. Those of us who have been positively impacted by the game have to be more vocal in our support: the modern game is a niche experience, with unique benefits and challenges. But, those who love it, love it as much as they ever did. Let’s get behind school Rugby - and lifelong friendships

Have you got World Cup Rugby Fever? Did you know rugby is really great for children? Our Preps two and three students recently wowed us at the Blundells School Under 8 Tag Rugby Festival, where they showcased their budding rugby talent. Some were experiencing their very first sports fixture representing our school. During this non-scoring event, our young stars demonstrated their dedication, scoring many tries and excelling in teamwork. We couldn't be prouder of our enthusiastic pupils who took part. Moments like these not only build character but also create a love for sports that can last a lifetime. A huge thanks to the organizers at Blundells School for hosting such a fantastic event! But why is rugby an exceptional choice for young athletes? Physical Fitness: Rugby keeps kids active, promoting strength and agility. Teamwork: It teaches collaboration and camaraderie. Sportsmanship: Rugby instills respect, humility, and fair play. Problem Solving: Kids develop quick thinking and adaptability. Character Building: They learn discipline, resilience, and mental toughness. Friendships: Lasting bonds are formed on and off the field. Life Lessons: Rugby imparts leadership, communication, and time management skills. Safe Fun: It's thrilling yet safe, thanks to rules and coaching. Enjoyment: Above all, rugby is pure, unforgettable fun! Rugby isn't just a sport; it's a valuable life experience for young athletes. We’ve all been watching the Rugby World Cup and discussing our supported team’s performance in class. What great discussions we’ve all had! #RugbyForKids #YouthSports #CharacterBuilding

The importance of holistically developing professional athletes in practice...
“I needed to get something outside of rugby, I just needed a plan for something I can do after rugby and I'm just mad into strength & conditioning and the gym side of things. So Rugby Players Ireland got me in touch with Setanta College and they've been unbelievable in aiding me. Great insight from Calvin Nash in the URC's More Than A Player series. Absolutely thrilled to see over 150 young people engaging in competitive sports! 🚀 Growing up and playing competitive sports at school was something that I looked forward to. It’s an opportunity every young person should have. 🏏 The benefits of playing competitive sport, that I found: - Improves resilience: A crucial skill, especially in today’s challenging times. - Boosts confidence: Helping you believe in your ability, and experiencing failure and growing developing problem solving skills. - Enhances social skills: Building friendships and teamwork. - Encourages stepping out of comfort zones: Fostering growth and adaptability. This is something we are hoping to grow going to into the 2024-25 school year 🥇. #YouthSports #CompetitiveSports

🏉🌟 A Weekend of Rugby Lessons: Technique, Determination, and Putting Your Head Down! 🚀💪 As always, my weekend was filled with sporting activities for the kids. This past weekend, Logan took to the field to play for Doncaster Knights. As I watched him play, I couldn't help but reflect on lessons that can be learned from rugby and how they apply to life both on and off the field. 🔑 Technique Matters: Just like in rugby, having solid technique is crucial in many aspects of life. From tackling challenges head-on to executing tasks with precision, mastering the right technique can make all the difference. In rugby, players spend hours honing their skills and perfecting their passes, kicks, and tackles. Similarly, in our own pursuits, taking the time to develop and refine our techniques can lead to greater success and mastery. 🔥 Determination is Key: Rugby is a demanding sport that requires resilience and unwavering determination. Players face obstacles, fierce opponents, and setbacks, yet they never give up. They push through the pain, dig deep, and keep fighting until the final whistle blows. This same level of determination can inspire us in our own endeavours. 🏃♂️ Get Your Head Down and Sprint: One aspect of rugby that always stands out is the explosive speed and agility displayed on the field. Players sprint tirelessly, manoeuvring past opponents, and making every second count. #RugbyLifeLessons #TechniqueMatters #DeterminationIsKey #SprintAndSeizeOpportunities #Revops #Edtech

#BlowtheWhistle - As the New Zealand Rugby Board, resists the idea of a Pasifika voice at its governance table, should we be asking of ourselves these uncomfortable questions of them and us? Is Rugby, much like other institutions, who have utilised our Pasifika sinews and bones, forged on the moana, as simply a commodity, and as it has seen fit? That Rugby institutions, like other institutions have set parameters around our ability to self-determine what that is, where that is, for who and for how much - muzzling our voice to ultimately benefit just themselves their Unions and TV channels? In fact, one could suggest that rugby, this iconic piece of New Zealand consciousness, is a microcosm of the kind of control and benefit driven by capitalism, and profit that our moana bodies have given from factory floors to rugby fields, and that we have given them like we have done, sadly, with our children’s bodies in State and Faith care - both abused by a system we trusted? We as people of the moana, I also question, have we participated in this, and are we entirely victims in this whole transactional process? Why do we readily give up our sons and daughters to sport, to schools, communities, workplaces and faith communities that at times do not give them the opportunity to grow and build and move on or up as they see fit and determine? And for the few that do succeed, we hear of them, we hold them up, we celebrate them, and so we should. But if our aspirations, especially of that initial migrant moana community, were so this very small, tiny piece of us would know and understand success - then maybe we need to ask ourselves, as to whether that is a true collective measure of success? And finally, the institution of NZ Rugby demonstrates what it actually believes about our bodies, our sons, our daughters and our many years and levels of contribution to the sport of Rugby. When it closes the door on our voice and does not allow our seat at the Rugby governance table...Have we not earned it..because we don't want to just be on the field and wall...we also want to be at the table? #PacificGovernance #PacificVoices #PacificPlayers #ManaseToa
